McCain "glad" to have radical preacher's support

McCain concedes Hagee's support was a mistake, but he's keeping the endorsement anyway.

The letters thread is now closed.

New Rule

All candidates get an eccentric do gooder.

Monday, April 21, 2008 11:29 AM

But, did he denounce him?

Isn't that the new political litmus test (besides the ones about Chrisitianity [now admitting Catholics!!], Y chromosomes [subject to revision], lack of melanin (also, subject to revision], wealth [... ])? I guess I'm a bit confused, since it seemed just a week or two ago that anything that anyone (appearing on Fox) could be offended by, had to be denounced, loudly and repeatedly, and the speaker, as well.

Eccentric Do-gooder?!

James Hagee has been promoting war with Iran during his Sunday morning t.v. sermons since 2006. Cheez, yah, what a funny old guy he is!

Monday, April 21, 2008 11:37 AM

every time

McCain opens his mouth on broadcast tv, I think he sounds a little more confused. All snark aside, is he slipping in the mental competency area?

Monday, April 21, 2008 11:39 AM

Corrected -

JOHN Hagee, sorry

Monday, April 21, 2008 11:47 AM

@Strangely Enough

McCain denounced Hagee's attacks on Catholics but not the man himself (obviously).

Questions

The most surprising aspect was that John McCain was asked this question at all. I thought that the media wer not permitted to ask questions that might actually reveal some aspect of how Senator McCain behaves or would run his administration.

The good Senator will likely have to throw another barbecue to shut the reporters up for another few months.

@Jonathan

Yeah, I was wondering that too..where is our Greek Chorus when you need em? ;)

In all honesty though, I doubt it'll have too much of an effect on the "Catholic Vote"...we've been hearing how the Pope is the Antichrist since Martin Luther - by now it just slides off our shoulders (Obama styles :)

cheers!

Horror show

I strongly reccomend any one who has not experienced it to tune into one of his "sermons" If it does not cause your jaw to hit the floor you are deaf. It is no more than a thinly vieled neocon pep rally -heavy on politics and brimstone real light on any other semblance of "Christian" values. It is truly frightning to look at the shots of the audience nodding in agreement with that ignorant fat fuck. If you ever wondered where that 29% are hanging out - look no further

There's plenty of good material

out there on Hagee. I envision some sort of 527 commercial that begins with recordings of all of Hagee's anti-catholic and anti-human remarks ending with at clip of McCain saying "I'm glad to have his endorsement."

Monday, April 21, 2008 12:29 PM

Hey guys what do you think about this?

Obama v. McCain in a debate.

"I will not bring up religion as an issue in this campaign. I will not exploit my opponent's courting of anti-Catholic extremists for political purposes."

Not the most zing to it, but that's why Obama's a politician and I'm a schmuck on a message board.

With this guy in tow

even Hillary Clinton could beat John McCain.

Hagee v. Wright

Know what's kinda depressing? That Hagee's Greatest Hits will NEVER get the kind of play or invoke the visceral reaction that Wright did.

and we all know the reason why.

perhaps we should update the old "never get caught with a dead girl or a live boy" quip into "if you're gonna have a crazy pastor, you better make sure he's white!"

Monday, April 21, 2008 01:10 PM

The problem is...

...the outraged beyond all measure by REv, Wright buy into all of the poison vomited up by the usual rogues gallery of WHITE conservative Christian leaders.

Mcain still praises Hagge for his "support of Israel"

Mcain has finally condemned Hagee for his anti catholic remarks--(while still "glad to have his endorsement")But he still praises the antisemitic Hagee for The reverends support of Israel.

Hagee supports Israel because he believes that a reconstituted Israel along biblical lines is a necessary condition for the Apocalypse to ensue....An event that he believes would have most of the Israelis dying by God's hand in fire.

With Friends like theses....

Hagee has a history of antisemitic remarks.

"It was the disobedience and rebellion of the Jews, God's chosen people, to their covenantal responsibility to serve only the one true God, Jehovah, that gave rise to the opposition and persecution that they experienced beginning in Canaan and continuing to this very day."

Hagee has stated that "Jews brought the Holocaust upon themselves "

Hagee writes that Jews themselves are responsible for antisemitism.

The Holocaust also was part divine mechanism, suggests Hagee in his book, God's way of forcing Jews to move to Israel, where most of them, Hagee thinks, will soon be killed in the apocalyptic war.

So among other hate full things,HAGEE is preaching that Jews are to blame for there own genocide ,and that Hitler was doing GOD's will, and following Catholic doctrine, when he murdered 7million Jews.

And what does McBush have to say about Hagee ? "I’m glad to have his endorsement. "

Why Should McCain Not Be "Glad"?

The Republican tent is big enough for Hagee and all the Catholics who will still support McCain. You can be sure that Hagee will get a whole lot less air time than Obama's pastor.

There will be no major swirl in the "Free Press" about this, because the Press is Free campaign time for McCain.

Hagee Not Just Anti-Catholic

Although his antediluvian anti-Catholicism is incendiary, it is by no means the John Hagee's most startling stand. For example, he traces the struggle in Palestine to its roots as a Biblical family argument between the children of Isaac and the children of Ishmael, Abraham's other son. On the basis of this "logic," Hagee takes a major role in the support of Israel by American fundamentalists.

It's Not McCain, It's The Media

All Of The Bigotry We See On National TV Is The Spirit Of The Media And Government.

If Pastor Wright was white, there would'nt be much comment. This cannot be denied. Look at Hillary Clinton's Pastor, William Procanick, going to Prison for child molestation of a 7 year old girl. No Media coverage. White

John Hagee, known bigot, endorses McCain, White

No coverage or mention of McCain's actual Pastor. Who is his Pastor? White

You must be a White Pastor in America to have the liberty to say and do anything you want without scrutny.

If the Government would fairly allow diversified Media in America, the unethical Main Stream would not exist. People would not watch or listen to the existing Media outlets were there alternate outlets. Polls will prove this.

Most humans on earth have the capacity to get along, it's Governments and Media outlets that perpetuate all of this bigotry and confusion among people worldwide.

Reader's comments and opininons are welcome.
