McCain is tied with his Democratic rivals, but is that good or bad?

  • A dead-even horse race? Or beating a dead horse?

Any polling is pointless until the Democratic nominee is decided. I don't see Clinton supporters or Obama supporters sulking and not voting for the other Democrat this fall, they'll coalesce around either one.

Once we have our nominee, then all the focus can be on pointing up that it's better to have a Democrat that is willing to "do something" about the war and the economy, instead of the "do nothing" McSame as Bush. When times are as tough as they are now, the public wants a government that will take action to help, not the typical Republican "government is the enemy" bullshit that allows them to raid the Treasury for their wealthy cronies.

  • @WES

"We are running a risk if we make Buckwheat our nominee."

You are a cowardly racist and a disgrace to all Americans.

  • No Sure Thing

I really appreciate the optimism of those who believe -- and have stated here -- that the democrats are a cinch to win back the White House, as the superiority of our candidate will resonate with our intelligent electorate. I'm afraid, as a resident of planet Earth, I can't share that optimism. I know that Kerry was a dog but by November of 2004 it should have been clear to any American with a brain that George W. Bush was way over his head and a fraud. Kerry -- or a trained (or not) chimp -- should have won in a landslide. While I believe that one democratic candidate is quite superior to Kerry this time around, McCain is Abraham Lincoln next to Bush. Everyone knows that around 20% of the electorate will change their minds 27 times between now and November, ultimately making a decision based on some trivial aspect of the candidate's personality. As long as that wishy washy 20% is out there, ready to shift at a moments notice or adopt the image that the press is projecting as honest, it's never going to be a lock. And, when you add in the percentage of Americans who would never vote for an African American or a woman, the democrats can only hope to win a split decision. If there's a landslide, it will be on the republican side. I hope I'm wrong. I hope that in the past four years that 20% of the electorate has developed brain activity. But I can't forget the fact that people I know to be reasonable actually voted for W in 2004 -- and who didn't vote for him in 2000. The election of 2004 just crushed my faith in the electorate and so I'm the last person who thinks 2008 will be even close to a sure thing.

  • People are missing the Obvious

There is plenty to make you rest easy, but lets look at two:

Myth: He is a great campaigner. John McCain could put crackheads to sleep. He sucks. Poor speaker, leaden wit, he will get crushed in side by side as far as Q ratings. He is in his seventies, I think he can be ground down by either, but especially Obama on stamina needed.

Truth: He is on the wrong side of every single issue important to voters. Every one. Care to make a living selling privatized social security? How about a new round of corporate tax breaks? Maybe a century of occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan? How about nine neo-nazi justices on the supreme court?

    Still worried? neither am I.

  • Two thoughts. . .

    1) Doesn't this mean that Democrats are ahead two to one?

    2) We should be very afraid. There is no way that a rational, sentient country would have re-elected George Bush in 2004. He had already left a long wake of destruction and disaster behind him. But Americans ignored all that and made their decision based on one TV commercial with some mean-looking wolves in it. There's no reason to think this time will be any different. What sort of "swift boat" strategy will Fox come up with this year? What scary commercial will come out on October 15? I'm sorry to say that this is what will decide the presidency.

  • With regard to the members of the "press" ...

...that have been giving the "Straight Talk Express" a free ride... that have given the Bush administration a free pass...

Don't any of you folks out there wonder who these people are?

I don't know about you all... but I want some NAMES!

It seems that we all agree that reporters continue to toe-the-line; because they are paid outrageous salaries that encourage them to stomach and regurgitate the garbage that is fed, through them, to us.

Is there nothing we can do?

Perhaps we stop consuming their trash?

Could we collectively stop watching network news? Can we all peel ourselves away from the television?

I have come to the determination that television is responsible for so much misinformation and divisive discourse that I refuse to watch it anymore. I won't pay for it!

How about we READ our news from reputable sources? Is that possible?

It is T.V., with all these empty talking-heads, that has blown all of these ridiculous stories (featured in last night's "debate"), completely out of proportion! They have taken us away from the issues, while allowing Sen. McCain to coast along; unscathed!

And while you're at it... if you CAN manage to unplug yourself from the T.V.... maybe READ a book; instead of watching American Idol or Dancing with the Stars, before you switch the T.V. back to FOX or CNN (pool or pond).

MAYBE read a book to a CHILD!!! Don't park your kids in front of the boob-tube-babysitter!

    ...

And these POLLS!!! We read these less-than-credible, and easily manipulated numbers; and let them throw us into a frenzy?!?

Aren't you all a little fed up?

We all complain about it, but we continue to fall into their trap again and again!

We need to take these "reporters" to task! Publicly call them out!!! Expose them for the frauds that they are!

Do we need to begin some Guerrilla-Truth-Squad to infiltrate press conferences and so-called "debates?" ...to call out the no-talent-hacks who moderate these debates and distract us with their bullshit!

Stop giving your dollars to these networks AND their advertisers!!! Get off the grid!

    Am I fooling myself here?

Are we all so dependent on the corporate-consumer machine?!?

    What does everyone here think?

    Thanks all.
