they nailed this one, right down to the old fashioned TV with knobs. this is exactly what needs to be running constantly through november.
And this can be expanded into foreign policy, taxes, health care - all of it.
Might even throw in soomething about how Bush and McCain are both against "cloning", but their experiment seems to have been quite successful - only difference between them is physical.
Any one who has not read Mr. Brock's book "Blinded by the Right" really should. It provides insight on the reality of the "vast right wing conspiracy" including tidbits about people who are still figureheads in the movement (Kristol, Norquist, Coulter, Drudge).
1. It's absolutely true.
2. McCain will find it almost impossible to fight. The "red meat" Republicans LOVE that he == Bush on the war, the economy, and healthcare. So if he refutes it, the "base" will sit on their hands at election time. If he lets it go, the meme will prosper and flower.
I mean, "Four more years."
Nice ad. Good delivery. Solid punch.
Why are "amateurs" better ad-makers these days than the "pros?"
Suddenly I feel like watching Wag the Dog...
The Republicans have been masterful at evoking automatic connections in the minds of many voters. They tell us: Republicans = fiscal restraint and Democrats = unpatriotic, regardless of the facts on the ground. The Republicans have shown that reasoned arguments are not only not necessary, but they are actually counterproductive with large swathes of the population.
If every time a democrat opened their mouth, they asked "are you better off now than you were 8 years ago?" that would get ingrained in the minds of swing voters, no? It's visceral and the number of people who can answer yes would be dwarfed by Mondale's vote total.
I think hammering "McCain = Bush" must be the very base upon which the Democrats build their campaign, whoever is the nominee; of course this will be harder for HRC who will have to stop kissing McCain's ass long enough to criticize him, but I am sure she will have no problem turning on him as soon as his usefulness to her expires.
McCain has been telling *his* base how much like GWB he is. So, it's not a smear, and it's not even an "attack" in the traditional sense. This is clarifying just what that would mean, in the candidate's (and the current president's) own words.
As Mr Burns would say, "exxxxxx cellent."
"I like the idea of keeping the message nice and simple: McCain = Bush."
Simple and memorable. That'll work.
I called them to offer my company's services since this is what we do too and I'm chomping at the bit to get at .
I posted this in the wrong WR article but here's another idea:
*McCain Decoded*
Its so interesting to see him veering left and trying to use leftist *catch phrases* to attract indies (like me) and moderates and maybe even SOME dems.
I'd like to create a *decoding game* that can be used online and by 527s in the general.
For example, recently he said (in response to the mortgage crisis):
"...we want to preserve the American dream of home ownership and take steps to keep deserving Americans in their homes..." (paraphrased except the part about "DESERVING" which he said like four times in his speech)
(decoded: YOU aren't deserving. YOU couldn't afford THAT home. You had no right to the American dream. And anyway, you didn't put enough money down and you don't have enough money in savings. Everyone knows ARMs are for losers, like YOU. You should have known better)
or today when he said (in response to the health care crisis):
"...I will work to reduce health care costs and insist that those people who CAN afford to pay for their prescriptions pay for their own prescriptions instead of the hard working, American taxpayer footing the bill."
(decoded: All 16 people in the US who CAN afford their prescriptions, like Warren Buffet (he actually used his name!) should pay for their own prescriptions. The other 300 million folks, well, who knows? I also found it interesting that he mixed health insurance with medicare issues. Duh. He also in the same statement mentioned that hard-working Americans should be able to carry their insurance WITH them from job to job. Someone ought to tell him that 1) 1/6 of hard-working Americans DONT have it so they CANT take it with them, not to mention the underinsured; 2) the 80% of small businesses in the US who make up the majority of the jobs in the US cant afford to offer it to their employees and 3) the big corporations that COULD afford it opt to hire workers outside of the US market so they don't have to pay it. and 4) we are LOSING jobs so its not a given you will HAVE a job to take it to, even if you could.
Geez. Talk about OUT OF TOUCH.
Any creative types out there? We could make up something that could be used against McCain in the general and decode his slick left sounding language for members of our party (or others) who have a propensity not to THINK or LISTEN REALLY CAREFULLY.
Anyone?
That is a winning ad. Perfectly executed.

I'm glad that Progressive Media USA is leading the fight to inform Americans about the true John McCain. (Not the main-stream media's "Maverick Straight-Talker" that many say they will vote for if they don't like the Democratic nominee.)
However, we must raise a VERY serious position of McCain's that most voters, especially younger ones, are unaware of. The impact a McCain victory will have on all of us through his appointments to the Supreme Court. If McCain wins, the court will get an ultra-conservative majority. This majority will have a severe impact on all our rights, and most definitely on women's control over their repoduction. I don't think many Americans are aware of this issue, or take it seriously. Please, ads on this topic.
