re: method of debate
Not everyone is here to debate. Aside from the various species of trolls, some people just have a different view of what this is all about. T. Payne views his posts more as performance art. I'd put WES in the same category. Of course, they can be really annoying to some, amusing to others.

Madam
Frankly, I think the multi-paragraph bloviating you know whos are so appalled and bitter about being called bitter that they've all marched over to their "she who must not be named" local campaign office, and volunteered to actually help out in the flesh.
You know, you cut out a few hours of day of posting, and there's lots of time to volunteer in between hunting trips, and hitting the local VFW for a couple of boilermakers!
Oh, and meds were probably involved as well...[wink]

he likely hurt himself badly against mccain
watch to see if his numbers plummet in swing states against mccain -- those are the polls likely to see the biggest impact, and the polls that will most affect superdelegate considerations. no good data yet, but my guess is that it obama will be way down versus a week ago.
but even looking at the democrat-only polls in pennsylvania, it's hard to argue that he didn't hurt himself. he was quickly closing the gap but now he's stalled out at an average of 9 or so points behind. and that doesn't take into account the late deciders, and the late deciders have broken for clinton in states with similar demographics.
to be that far behind after spending so much more money than clinton in pennsylvania -- and after so much press saying that clinton has basically no chance of winning the nomination -- is a serious, serious problem.
as the nomination battle draws to a close, obama is likely going to have a slight lead in the popular vote, a bigger lead in the pledged delegates, but a huge albatross of bad polling in big swing states compared to clinton. the superdelegates are going to be in a terrible position.

RCP has Clinton losing to Obama and McCain nationally, Obama beating McCain
I'm sorry but if this were Hillary who had survived a flap like this I would never hear the end of it.
I cannot watch people continue to sit by and try to undermine Barack's electability, based on things that aren't completely true.
So here it is:
Democratic Presidential NominationPoll Date Obama Clinton Spread
RCP Average 03/28 to 04/14 48.6% 41.0% Obama +7.6%
Gallup Tracking 04/12 - 04/14 51% 40% Obama +11.0%
Rasmussen Tracking 04/11 - 04/14 50% 41% Obama +9.0%
AP-Ipsos 04/07 - 04/09 46% 43% Obama +3.0%
CBS News/NY Times 03/28 - 04/02 46% 43% Obama +3.0%
Hotline/FD 03/28 - 03/31 50% 38% Obama +12.0%

What they do have is her winning in Pennsylvania, but there's no comparison as to where she was pre-Bittergate and post-Bittergate.
Pennsylvania Democratic Primary

Now it's possible that people have other polls. But RCP has Obama up by 7.6 %. It also has Hillary losing to McCain by 1.2% and Obama beating McCain by 0.4%. Granted that's not a lot, but the numbers are what they are.
Numbers aren't opinions, they're facts. We can't keep playing with them. Given that I have to draw the conclusion he IS electable nationally.
Also Obama's not the one trying to run around spreading the word Hillary's somehow unelectable. She, Bill and her surrogates ARE trying to do that to him. Since polls disprove that, and most rational people know that's not the case, I have to shoot back at the notion that he's somehow unelectable.
Anyone who doesn't think he's survived this stupid, media-hyped "Bittergate" well is somewhat delusional.

@MVP
"Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton is sketching an agenda for her first 100 days in office that includes the beginning of a troop withdrawal from Iraq and signing legislation that President Bush vetoed."
There won't be a Democratically controlled Congress if she's the nominee, so there won't be any "vetoed" legislation for her to pass. It's not like bills go "back to the pool" if they're vetoed..

Common sense prevails
Once again, the honesty and common sense of regular people is winning out over lazy journalism and the blatant hypocrisy of the Clinton/McCain tag team.
Most people in the U.S. were not offended by Obama's observations about the declining state of the American economy. "Bitter" is not too harsh a word to describe the state of middle class America today.
Obama handled this ludicrous flap with remarkable wit, grace, and even-temper. He is once again displaying the qualities we need in a national leader. In contrast, Clinton has beaten this dead horse into dog food and succeed only in linking herself more closely with the GOP.
The multimillionaire daughter of wealthy suburbanites, educated in Ivy League universities, Clinton is now indelibly linked in the American popular imagination with multimillionaire John (Bomb Iran) McCain. These are the last throes of a "bitter," dying campaign.

Opinions, Facts and Estimates
Personally, I think either Hillary or Obama could get elected. I obviously have opinions of who I'd prefer to see elected, and who I think has a better chance, but they are just opinions.
I think that it's a bit much to call a poll a fact. It's more of an estimate. Polls have underlying models that try to account for varying things such as turnout among specific sub-groups. And we rarely talk about the margin of error and the 'undecideds'.
It is interesting to see trends on the tracking polls ( I watch them), but ultimately, it's 04/22 and 05/06 that's going to matter.

Shot and Beer
Migod, that is so pathetic. I was embarrassed for her. Then I remembered reading that she and John McCain had a boozefest together on a European trip. They "bonded" over a bottle. This is supposed to be the leader of the free world? These guys want to prove that they can run an army and a government by getting blotto? I don't think so.
I admired Hillary Clinton. She was doing a pretty good job for New York and I voted for her twice. Now I don't think I could vote for her again unless the Repubicans ran Ms. Coulter for the Senate.
