How Bush's HUD responded to the mortgage crisis

As the housing crisis erupted, Bush's HUD secretary made matters worse.

Nauseating.

Pure nausea. What in God's name are the Democrats waiting for to impeach these bastards? More proof of dire/dour incompetency to remove the cancer? I know this kind of crap doesn't rise to the "high crimes and misdemeanors" level need for removal but aren't those too in plentiful supply? Torture memos coming to mind anyone? This kind of crap is just the icing on the "cake".

It gives new meaning to the now-famous movie line:

"You can't handle the truth"

Facts, Schmacts.

Where's The Scorecard ?

BushCo failures include HUD, Veterans' Care, FEMA, the FAA, Rumsfeld, Iraq, Iran, etc.

I suspect that the problem began with Bush appointing non-qualified lackeys to manage these departments.

The blame can be directed to American voters electing Bush and Cheney, and other non-qualified lackeys of neoconservatism.

Is anyone keeping score of the Bush failures? That information may be useful in the upcoming Election.

Intent makes a difference

It's all about Republicans being put in charge of programs they don't give a damn about. They do this sort of thing all the time with programs that have to exist but whose aims they don't support. They'd like to eliminate HUD but since they can't they'll try to figure out ways to funnel the budget to their cronies and contributors.

How many catastrophic Bush appointees does it take....

....to wake up a Senator?

still counting.....

What about Congressional Responsibility?

It's wonderful that the media are shining a spotlight on Jackson, who is at least somewhat culpbable for the subprime mess. However, it seems that the media should also shine the light of shame on the House and Senate Banking Committee Chairmen (Spencer Bacchus and Dick Shelby, respectively) who apparently allowed this mess to take shape right under their noses.

This is how to do it

Not the housing crisis, of course (as noted, there they go again), but how to write the War Room: informative, concise, straight-faced but with nearly equal undertones of humor and anger. Other competent Salon writers like Glenn Greenwald might take note. If it's not a legal brief, often less is more. I hope Benen settles in for a long time.

Steve Benen...

Should remain as the War Room writer. Finally we are learning about and talking about real issues that affect real people. And this is exactly the kind of coverage this country needs MUCH MORE OF. However, the media seem far more intrigued with reporting on side show baloney. The incompetence is staggering!

I'm shocked! Shocked!

What a surprise, a member of the Bush team charged with the most outrageous sins of office.... how could it be?

Oh... wait a minute... sorry... I meant to say: How is it possible that the very worst of the worst presidents is not in jail with the rest of his criminal cabal?

And to think that a tiny amount of venality and greed, relatively speaking,

Nearly brought down the Harding administration and lead to his early death and the succession of Calvin Coolidge. It kind of shows you how tolerant we are NOW of this kind of thing. Things can only get worse, I think.

What is it about HUD...

...that just gets the inner kleptocrat all worked up in GOP appointees?

Monday, April 14, 2008 12:03 PM

"Things can only get worse, I think."

Look at the Pentagon budget. No one else does...

What are these guys - French?

"while foreclosures rose and default rates hit the roof, Bush's HUD secretary treated himself with "an emergency bid to obtain oil portraits of Jackson and four other HUD secretaries at a cost to taxpayers of $100,000."

How Marie Antoinette of them - Let them eat...paint!

God, guns, and gays

Support Hillary and you'll get more of the same. Nobody wants to hear about actual things that affect their lives. Let's keep 'em all focused on the simple shit. Know what I mean?
