  • Yeeeeeeeesh.

Everybody calm down. Take a deep breath. Use this opportunity to cover the important stuff (which I've noticed the War Room has done since Mr. Benen started writing for it).

  • Chris Matthews

    Doesn't speak English good.

Perhaps, after his disastrous Daily Show appearance late last year he will go the way of Tucker Carlson.

    One can hope.

  • What if you don't drink coffee

Why is this such a big deal? OK, Obama doesn't like coffee. I hate the stuff too. I'd make the same request. Why can't candidates refuse the offer? Why do idiots like Mathews -- I'll even say specifically Mathews -- have TV shows? You know, if nobody would watch this nonsense...

  • Chris Matthews

    is a fucktard. Period.

  • It must be even slower on Salon (Scraping the bottom of the barrel scrapers)

I understand that the talking heads are running out of stuff to talk about running up to the PA primary. They are down to analyzing the political ramifications of Orange Juice and/or Coffee in retail politics.

But how can you guys keep a straight face when you're analyzing the analysis?

How about some more coverage of the Petraeus Hearings? I thought both Hillary and Obama did really well. Especially the comments by Hillary (and Biden) that the Bush admin is trying to sneak a Treaty into law without the approval of the Congress (unconstitutional). Remember what Hillary said: "the Iraqi Parliament votes on the treaty|agreement, but the US congress does not?" Did I miss coverage on this?

  • Is OJ a codeword for "I want a golden shower from John McCain"?

Chris Matthews pants fit funny when he around McCain.

  • Chris Matthews

Notorious misogynist and lesbian groper, and, God, how he loves Tim RussertI love his show though - it reminds me how goofy and inconsequential all of this political theatre really is. At least Matthews has fun doing whatever it is that he does. I honestly can't imagine cable news without him. Keep talking Chris. I totally GET you.

  • This is why...

...there's a spanking, new testament to American Journalism in Washington, the Newseum. Journalism is so devoid of actual news and commitment to informing the American people, that MSM has erected a narcissistic edifice to itself.

Don't be surprised (if not already) when videos of Matthews and his ilk appear there as high points of American political journalism.

As the father of modern American political consultancy, Clem Whitaker, once said: "The average American doesn't want to be educated; he doesn't want to improve his mind; he doesn't even want to work, consciously, at being a good citizen. [But] most every American likes to be entertained. He likes the movies; he likes mysteries; he likes to be entertained; he likes fireworks and parades...So, if you can't fight PUT ON A SHOW!" [Mitchell, "Campaign of the Century," p 570-1]

So, this is what American journalism increasingly offers: entertainment, and this explains the success of Fox, which, to varying degrees, is an offshoot of Whitaker's Campaigns, Inc.

  • Harball

As blowhards go, Chris is at least entertaining. I watch the show nightly. He has good guests and when he lets them speak it is usually pretty informative. Tucker Carlson was another story. He was/is the obnoxious frat boy that we all want to kick the crap out of but he had bigger friends. Not so anymore. Gregory's show is a lousy show but he is a much more level headed host then Tucker. The only thing I will miss about Tuck is AB Stoddard. My pundit dream date!

  • "Chris is at Least Entertaining"

In my opinion, this is the whole problem. People looking for news as a form of entertainment. And boy, are they gettin' it!

I know a lot of these shows do not claim to be "news" shows, but let's face it, they know full well this is the only place people get it. Because it is just soooo damn entertaining.

Puke! We're a nation of idiots. And contrary to what most Republicans think, it WILL catch up to us. And very quickly at that.

  • If Obama had ordered Pepsi........

Tweety probably would have said "Average people ask for Coke"

God, I'm sick of this clown!

  • Did someone say "OJ"?

    RACE BAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm fed up and I wont take it anymore

Watching Chris Matthews has to be the biggest waste of time ever. His stupidity is never more evident than when he has self appointed himself as the guy who really knows what is important. He is to be avoided like the plague.

I have to mention that I am really restaining myself in writing the tame remarks above. It would be more concise if I just said he totally pisses me off.

  • So let's see:

Chris Matthews takes umbrage because Obama asked for orange juice instead of coffee. Mowdy Doody sneers that he's a snob because he once declined a vodka. Are we choosing our presidents on the basis of their tolerance for alcohol and caffeine? I thought we learned our lesson about choosing our president on the basis of his being a good drinking buddy eight years ago. Didn't we?

    Didn't we?

Oh God. I guess we do have the government we deserve, if we listen to people like this.

  • Matthews & OJ

I saw this episode of Hardball and thought the exchange w/Shuster about coffee & OJ was idiotic. I was going to comment a lot more about it, but after reading 'Rosenkavalier's' comment I can hardly stop laughing. I didn't even know that was a word..but it is a perfect description of some people on cable news shows.

    Funny stuff!

  • I'LL ASK AGAIN...

does anyone watch Chris Matthews anymore? He is so yesterday. And so is MSNBC. I mean, how many more episodes of "Lock Up..." can any one sane person watch?
