what about...
yes, but...
clinton was the poorest president in a long spell when he took office (reagan, ghw bush). how much moolah did reagan bring in before dottiness felled him? how wealthy was he *before* he became president? what has nancy been living on since - not newspaper grocery coupons, i'm sure. how about 41's tax returns in recent years? he gave a lot of speeches... to a lot of scoundrels. did reagan ever pay thirty percent of his income in taxes? what was his percentage of charitable contributions? ditto the bushes, daddy and sonny. ditto, might i add, mccain, whose taxes are still a secret, though he's lived for years off the avails of his paltry (in this context) senate income, plus his heiress wife's money. (and how is she different from the heiress income of john kerry, anyway?) why does this slightly snide (as opposed to many other much more snide) articles chastise the clintons for arriving at wealth late in their lives without reference to the high life of their presidential (all republican!) peers; pretty darn hypocritical. let's have some context, please.
...some thoughts

You can oil a lot of palms with $109 million
And maybe some will kiss your ass, but one thing it can't buy you, it can't buy you class.

Let's hope this is the last post for this stupid subject
We know why Obama wanted to get his hands on those tax returns. It was not because he believed there was malfeasance on the Clintons' tax returns, that's for the IRS to delve into, but he HOPED for something to slime the Clintons with. To that end Salon.com lends its web pages. How twisted Salon.com, and the Obama disciples are. The tax returns show how much the Clintons care (30+ million dollars and BC's time) about those poor Africans with AIDS, but that's not what Salon.com and the Obama disciples see because that would require praise. All they see is how much money the Clintons made. There is nothing particularly scandalous about it because those monies came from lecture fees and books, but if it's made to be scandalous, then maybe it will stick. Those who HOPE for CHANGE and UNITY are all TALK and no substance.

drumroll..
she wanted her inevitable bowing out of the primary to upstage the story?
-
Bow out?
She should be BOOTED out, she's just so much dead weight for the democratic party.

Multiple choice..
With the exception of Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul, every single candidate for President this election cycle is by any standard independently wealthy.
So, at this point we are left with the choice of:
* The self-made white female lawyer of exceedingly cozy means
* The self-made mixed-race male lawyer of cozy means
* The questionably self-made son of an admiral of cozy (exceedingly?) means
Pick which rich person you want running the country.. or better yet, find something more substantive to cling to.
I'm no Clinton fan, but I know she is rich and it doesn't have an impact on my decision. They are all rich, compared to us.

Wait, over =seven years=?
They made — grossed — barely over $100 million between 2000 and 2007? Between the two of them? This has to be the biggest non-issue ever.
Yes, that makes them "upper class" (spare the world your delicate "upper middle class" conceits, Americans in the top 10%), but it doesn't come close to putting them at the level of robber barons and bloody-handed oil lords.
Sure, okay, Clinton was probably timing it to minimize the impact on blue-collar turnout in Pennsylvania. So? Unless there's something else there, of course, it's fitting to bury relatively uninteresting news. Her husband was always doing that, and he turned out all right.
And speaking of which, how much of Clinton's reluctance had to do with most of that income probably being her husband's?

"scumbag" and "defecation". From the guy defining what's "classy" and not. Gotta love self-parody.

Mind reader
Remember that post where you called out mind-reading pundits, Alex? Remember? Cause I do. It was a good post.
And yet, here you are, reading minds. They did cause they probably this or that? All that info from a post that had next to no concrete information at all.
I'm no Hillary partisan, but seriously. Really? I mean, really?
McCain hasn't released his tax return either. And I don't see attacks on him. And he's actually the freakin' nominee. I mean, actually. No doubts. No opponents.
ESP, it's a grand temptation, no?
And, no, comparing to Obama isn't enough for the guessing you propositioned as darn near fact...
Seen better from you, yah know. Expect it too.

Reluctance
And speaking of which, how much of Clinton's reluctance had to do with most of that income probably being her husband's?
She had a good excuse, she was stuck in the Senate. Her book deal wasn't too shabby, from my humble (and poorer) perspective. Relative earning power never crossed my mind. I think 100 Million would put the Clintons in the top %1 if not higher.

This is precisely why I don't even want to know what HRC's idea of "affordable" is.
HRC wants to force us all to pay for "affordable" health insurance (not health care, health insurance).
I refuse to believe that anyone with that much money has a true and accurate concept of what is affordable for the average working American.
Period.

Out of your minds
Bill Clinton was the poorest man to get to the White House in modern memory. True. They lived in government housing all their lives, until the house in New York. He was beseiged by the necessity of defending themselves against one trumped-up charge after another, so they needed millions to defend themselves. Then they lived on Hillary's salary as senator, and both of them got writing. They made money with three books (the proceeds from the third book, Giving, were given to charity, I believe.) Bill got paid a lot to make speeches. A lot. Well, if you were the sort of organization to have a half mil to pay, you wanted to hear what he said. Nobody put a gun to their heads, pay me or else. As well, they gave 10% to charity, so that's more than $10 million, as well as traveling around the world raising money for the tsunami, AIDS, you name it. Ben Politico looks at a lousy 50 grand and sees a scandal. You say just knowing they're that rich might cause (you hope?) the blue collar workers to desert Bill and Hill. I don't know what you base that on, FDR was a very wealthy man. The truth is, what they need is not to be abandoned, as they are by the latte-drinking, caucus-going activist side of the party, who have been waiting forever to get these documents. Hmm. Wonder where Hillary was when these tax forms were drawn up? Hiding from Monica? The Democratic Party has become infested by a lot of people whose main occupation is pulling down Hillary, and you never hear any discussion of the issues from them.
