Letters to the Editor

the only real question is whether there really was a (witless) "unnamed clinton associate"
or mark halperin made it all up.
The Notorious W.E.S. and kickstarts you have my sympathy, i understand the frustration, but it ISN'T salon. the individual authors own the thread; it's Koppelman you have the beef with. (he *is* sensitive, schoolmarmish, deleting REALLY inoffensive stuff) -
God forbid we get a little context...
This isn't a shot at War Room, or Alex, but could someone who has reported this make at least a vain effort to tell us when this conversation happened? Or in what context they were discussing it?
Because frankly, if they were talking about this in early January, I might have agreed with someone who said it was unlikely that Obama could win (granted, we didn't know the GOP nominee then, but I actually always thought it would be McCain). But once they saw the momentum he built, saw the kind of campaign he could run (grassroots organizing beyond the expectation of anyone not actually in the campaign, etc), they might have come around to think maybe experience wouldn't be the central issue of the campaign, especially once they saw him beat an "experienced" candidate time after time (it was only after they split Texas and Ohio and we got this lovely seven week navel-gaze that her claims of experience have been questioned). Maybe, after all that, Richardson was able to say "hmm, maybe I was wrong."
Or maybe he was just being polite and trying not to p*ss off his friend Bill by complimenting an opponent.
Even with all that, I still doubt this happened. I was a huge supporter of Bill Clinton, but his relationship with the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth is casual, at best.

W.E.S.
That would be fine with me!
I'm a registered Independent in a red state and my candidates never win anyway but I vote because I love to use my rights every chance I get. I'm just really happy that I might get to vote in a primary this time around! I get to use my rights on May 6th and that's something I haven't been able to do for years.
So listen up Hillary and Obama....please stay in the race so I can get to vote for a change!

Two Cheers for Joan Walsh and Glenn Greenwald
(both of whom have deleted posts of mine) but NEVER arbitrarily.

Your right, it was a Koppelman story. Craziness.
-
Hey Koppelman
I'm a Clinton adviser, and can guarantee you that internally we realize that we can't win. Heck, we're all drunk right now. Our current efforts are limited to smearing Obama so much that he will lose in the general and Clinton can run in 2012 (but one thing is certain, none of us are going to sign on to that campaign!).
I'll be looking forward to your reporting this in your next post.
Sincerely,
Anonymous Clinton Employee

nevertheless, kickstarts, it's a good to write
it embarrasses him (yes, you MIGHT think he's too arrogant to care, with that delete pencil and all, but he's not). sometimes it takes a LOT of effort, writing - then getting deleted. writing - then getting deleted. but i think it's worth it (if, you respect either the publication or the author). What i really object to is that Salon is not as amazed at obama as i am - and worse, seems to see something admirable in hillary. i don't mind the hillary thing, but, like richardson, i see someone like obama coming along once-a-generation, if then. why doesn't salon realize that? i think it's joan walsh, and femininism and the democrats.

Clintons vs. The Truth
I believe Richardson. He endorsed Obama and believes the senator can win in November. The unnamed sources from the Clinton camp are trolls with the single task of muddying the water in order to ensure an Obama defeat in the fall.
Sadly, I also believe that the Clintons are revealing themselves to be far more bigoted than the majority of the American public. They may believe that Obama is unelectable because he is black, whereas increasing numbers of ordinary open-minded voters are making an honest examination of Sen. Obama's policies and persona and deciding that they are willing to try him out.
I desperately want to return to the time before this campaign when I admired Bill Clinton and respected Hillary Clinton. It used to be that the name Clinton stood for hope and against deceit and bigotry, for the future and against the failed policies of the past. Now the current tawdry antics of this pair have soiled that happy memory forever.

Letter deletions
I actually haven't deleted any letters in days, though someone else might have deleted the letter or letters in questions. Kickstarts, I looked in this thread for a letter you wrote that got deleted and didn't see any. If you believe your letter was deleted unfairly, please feel free to email me (alex@salon.com) and let me know what thread it was in. I'll check it out and pass it on to the relevant people. And just a reminder, you can see our letters policy for an explanation of what we delete and why; it's here: http://letters.salon.com/about/index.html.

I enjoy Salon but I take each story and editor with a grain of salt. I really enjoy reading the comments and I get a laugh more so than not from them. People say stupid things and so do I but this place is just a relief valve for frustrated people who pay attention. Nothing really matters here and Salon editors of all people should know that. I'll vote for the candidate I like and so will you and nothing will really change my mind. I'm just happy people are passionate about their country and have the balls to stand up for their beliefs like W.E.S. and everyone else who posts here.
Salon is great for one thing I'll say, no website on the internet has the capacity to lock my computer up so completely as Salon!

I Have No Reason To Bitch
I have over 2,600 posts and only 27 red star Editor choices...I've had fewer than that deleted.

Just like polls...
...the only anonymous sources telling the truth are the ones that favor your candidate. Go figure.
In the latest Rasmussen Tracking poll McCain is winning by 6% head to head with Obama and 4% Head to Head with Clinton. In the latest Gallop Tracking poll McCain is ahead by 2% over both candidates.
