  • Bad Americans

Are conservatives such bad Americans, that the best way to appeal to them is to tell them they won't have to sacrifice for their country?

"Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama just said they'd solve the problem by raising your taxes."

Personally I don't WANT to pay more taxes and I hate big govt, but Bush & Co, fucked up so bad, I'd tighten my belt as necessary to help fix it.

  • Stupid and Transparent....

... but it will work with 45% of the country.

Now the question is how to get to a majority of the middle 10%? I still think calling all Republicans scaredy cats and pussies for their obsessive fear mongering is the best bet, but of course Democrats have to form their circular firing squad first.

  • You Can Count On Two Things From Conservatives

1.) Huge doses of moral preaching and judging

2.) And their wallet considerations taking center stage simultaneously.

  • Me

    Pay for the surge?

  • The real winner is...

Getty Images must be making fortune selling all three campaigns and many satirists the same stock footage of children sleeping.

  • My 3 a.m advert idea.

It is high noon and your politicians are relying on you sleeping in while they wreck your country.

    Wake up America.

  • The Children

wouldn't be sleeping so soundly if they knew how much debt the Republicans are running up for them to pay when they grow up.

  • Since when

is reversing major tax cuts for the top brackets (the rich) in our society, raising MY taxes?

That's the problem with these damn tax cuts; now, to take them back, you have to appear to be "raising" taxes on everyone, which is absolutely not the case.

And, if Bush didn't have his head you know where, he would have saved the money he sent out to everyone in that ridiculous $300-for-everybody budget surplus return in 2001 and used it to address issues with Soc Sec and Medicare, or had something in reserve for unexpected emergencies ... And if he knew what he was doing in his ill-fated Iraq adventure, he would have RAISED taxes then and asked the country to sacrifice in real time to pay for the war, rather than charging it to future generations.

  • This is such bullshit

So Three-Names heads straight for the sewer (Oh, that was a big surprise) with this bullshit 3AM ad which, of course, is straight out of the Republican play book of trying to frighten the electorate. When did Americans become such wusses? It's about this time that the words of a truly great American ring in my ears: We have nothing to fear but fear itself....

So now this ad has been parodied by both the other candidates. Is the electorate actually seduced by this ephemeral crap?

  • Awesome!

And a spokesman for McCain said, "John McCain is ready to lead with a pro-growth economic plan to lower taxes, cut government spending, empower America's entrepreneurs and get our economy back on track. Americans can't afford the Democrats' liberal agenda to raise taxes, nationalize health care, cut off trade and crush the economy under big government."

I wouldn't be able to suppress a laugh if my job was to go on TV and say that!

  • Grow jobs?

Where do you plan on growing them? Thailand? Cause that's pretty much all the Republican party has been good at allowing America to export. jobs.

  • I wish...

all of these useless candidates would explain how they want to spend our tax dollars. The too much taxes is a smoke screen to avoid the country really looking at itself and it's priorities.

The federal government is spending 20% of the federal budget on security, 14% on National Defense, another 6% for cops and prisons, 20% on Medicaid/Medicare payments, 12% on Elementary and high school education. Interest payments on borrowed money is the 5th largest single expense item in the budget. and then a lousy 2% on Highways, .5% on air transport.

Can at least one empty headed politician actually define a priority in terms of spending priorities.

Just for examples, "We need to spend the same amount on infrastructure (highways, bridges, air traffic) as we do on National defense - 8% for Defense and 8% for infrastructure."

or "We are not getting our moneys worth spending 12% of our budget on education. The amount is right, the execution is wrong."

or "Spending only .2% of our budget on Public libraries is a disgrace. Knowledge is power and libraries are great sources of knowledge. The country needs to grow this power."

or "Spending 20% of federal revenue on Medicaid/Medicare, in addition to the non-tax expenses Americans pay in direct medical cost and health insurance premiums show Medical costs are wildly out of control. We need to cut Medicaid/Medicare costs to 10% by "governing" Medical costs and bringing them back in line with socially responsible levels."

Instead we get dumb ass "too much taxes", or "not enough taxes", or "tax the rich", or "trickle down economy", or "Stop taxing the poor" or other stupid political bromides.

  • So where'd all of my money go?

Gee, the Republicans cut my taxes but somehow I have less money than ever. How does that work?

    - Their supporters in the oil & gas industries make more money off of me than ever

    - My state had to raise taxes and fees to make up for federal funds lost

    - My credit card interest can now go as high as the credit card companies feel like raising it

    - My medical expenses are higher than ever. Do I need to point out that the current for-profit medical insurance and HMO models were Republican ideas?

    - I'm not rich enough to benefit from the vast majority of Republican tax cut dollars

    - Sooner or later someone is going to have to pay for the trillion dollar Iraq war that Bush & his supporters wanted so badly. Most of the burden will be on me and others like me if the Republicans are in charge.

  • @sajwan

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one. Proof that maybe the whole Obama/Clinton slugfest going on here can be breeched?

I certainly hope so...the last thing this world needs is Bush the Third mucking things up for another 4 years.

    cheers!

  • The 3 a.m. call has already been made

twice this year, but it was our government calling out to the private sector for help. The first was to Bank of America when it became obvious that Countrywide Mortgage was going down; the second to JPMorgan Chase when Bear Sterns tanked. These buyouts happened, literally, overnight in an effort to deflect a market disaster. No lengthy FTC, SEC or DOJ reviews and not a peep of objection from Republicans or Democrats. If you want to see who wields the true power in this nation, look to those banks.
