WOW!
One of the most respected minds in this country has chosen Obama. The question of the moment is how will the Clinton camp downplay the significance of this endorsement?
-
He knows a disaster when he sees one
Senator Clinton will make a fine Majority Leader.
-
Hamilton & Obama
Here in Indiana, Hamilton's words carry a lot of weight.
Lee Hamilton is a respected politician who knows a winner when he sees one.
-
Its so...
arrogant of Obama to have secured Hamilton's endorsement. Doesn't Hamilton understand what a racist homophobe Obama is -- or maybe that's the reason for the endorsement. Don't both Hamilton and Obama understand that Clinton is the only Democratic candidate who has been tested under fire and that only she and McCain have crossed the Commander in Chief threshold test? ;)
-
Timing?
He's moved quickly to reassure the Indiana bowling constituency, which makes up half or more of the population.

ooops
From Countdown with Keith Olbermann last night:
"Attorney General Michael Mukasey demanded the president be given new warrantless eavesdropping powers. He then teared up when he mentioned how the government received a call from a safehouse in Afghanistan before 9/11."
Ooops. Sounds like another pre-9/11 has slipped out. Hamilton's endorsement could carry some weight. Iraq will certainly be a huge issue, but I have a feeling a reassessment of 9/11 may also be part of the general election campaign. MacCain can try to wiggle his way around a bit, but he'll be tied to George Bush wether he likes it or not. That's where "experience" won't come in so handy. Sure he's experienced, but look at the mess we're in (and have been for quite some time). All those fixtures with experience in Washington are responsible. Offering a fresh approach and sound judgement will work to Obama's advantage. Endorsements from measured, respected figures like Hamilton will be importnat.
I really don't think this endorsement will carry much weight in Indiana, though. I have a feeling a number of those blue collar white voters will go to McCain no matter who the Democrats nominate.

Senator Clinton will make a fine Majority Leader.
Hoping that Clintons retire from politics forever or join the republicans to become who they really are.

even more good news for Obama
At least one poll now has him ahead in PA:
http://www.pollster.com/blogs/poll_ppp_pennsylvania_dems.php
I'm a bit skeptical, but it is certainly within the realm of possibility given recent trends.
Oh, and how about that legendary Clinton charm wooing the superdelegates in CA?

Ooops...

braindead hillbots
name the most recent significant endorsement Billary has gotten. then piss off.
-
Why isn't Hamilton a super delegate?
Lee Hamiliton is a distinguished, no-nonsense observer of the domestic and international scene and a stalwart senior member of the Democratic party. His endorsement of Sen. Obama is an important further step toward securing the nomination. I hope that Hamilton will campaign in his home state of Indiana, which will help Obama. Hamilton is plain, pragmatic, patriotic and a savvy interpreter of the political tea leaves. His opinion will carry much weight with Indiana voters and the super delegates still on the fence.
I encourage Sen. Clinton to continue to campaign for the nomination. Obama gains every day she fights on.

Hamilton: A Dem the press likes
Hamilton is one of the Dems that the media actually likes. This will help Obama immensely with them.
Meanwhile: I'd post this in Joan Walsh's thread, but that's closed, so I'm hoping somebody important sees it here:
Hard on the heels of Rove tool Viveca Novak's (http://mediamatters.org/items/200512020016) oily anti-Obama "fact-check", we have Elizabeth Edwards getting up from her sickbed to go onto two morning talk-shows (so far) to, among other things, debunk a slander.
Elizabeth Edwards said today, on both the Today show (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/23914511#23914511) and Morning Joe (video not available yet), that the New York article Joan Walsh and others have cited saying that the Edwards weren't endorsing Obama because he "turned them off" is a big fat lie. As in false, untrue, bogus.
Somebody tell Ms. Walsh.

Flatblond
Hey Flat why do you keep saying Obama is a homophobe? I know he has some that are with him that you may not like but he has others like Jeremiah Wright who speaks out in suppor to of Gay rights.
-
Lee Hamilton - not my favorite Democrat
Lee Hamilton is the Republican's go-to-guy when they need a token Democrat who won't make waves or press too hard on getting answers.
-
How has she been tested under fire?
She has failed every test. She lied when she did not even have to lie. She cannot run a campaign (in debt). Why won't she say how much she raised?
She is a hypocrite. She wanted Barack to denounce Farrahkhan but would not denounce the Latino woman's ill fated comments. In 1993-94 when she had the backing of the President, senate and house she could not pass universal health care.
Is it any wonder she now likens herself to Rocky a fictional charecter. She is great at fiction and make believe stories.
-
Yea, Right
Hamilton is retired. He is a has-been. No body cares about has-beens. Touting this endorsement as if it means something is like Obama has become the democratic and desperate Mike Huckabee using a beareded Chuck Norris to prove he is a "tough guy." Obama is going to get his rear-end kicked in Indiana, big time. Sorry Obama-tank people.
-
Please God
The supers over-rule the pledged and Hillary takes the podium with the ROCKY theme song playing.
-
A Super A Day
Welcome aboard, Rep. Hamilton. The more the merrier. May you be the trickle that leads to the flood of supers getting off the fence and endorsing Obama, putting the embarrassing and damaging train wreck of the Hillary campaign out of its misery.

Obama on foreingn policy
His positions on foreign policy is one of the main reasons I am supporting Obama. I look carefully at is positions paper and agree with many of the foreign policy experts who are on on his advisory team.
Hillary's gets her foreign policy support from a more hawkish, group of experts. Hillary claims more expertise in foreign policy than she really has. Her "first lady" trips were mere, goodwill trips. Besides many of the world leaders have changed since Bill was president, and we need a fresh new approach. We have had enough tough talk from both Hillary and McCain. It's time for some dignified foreign policy and diplomacy. Obama has excited the rest of the world. He can bring dignity back to our relationships with foreign leaders.
