  • The problem

What Wright did was to say the right thing in the wrong way. There are several things wrong with this nation and racism and economic inequality are aspects of that kind of skew. That said, if you put the diagnosis in a way that the patient can't hear it, you're not doing your job as a critic of the nation. The people of color who are suffering know it. He doesn't have to address THEM. He needs to address those of us who are white and who, either knowingly or unknowingly, have contributed to the situation. I don't know of anyone who feels well-disposed to a slap in the face.

There is a lot I don't agree with him about but he could have taken a constructive tack. I have heard that most of his sermons are not destructive but those who are not friendly are not going to give him credit for anything.

  • OK, so now

Can we get back to things that are actually important?

    Issues that matter?

Democrats uniting to lead the country?

  • Good news

Obama's resiliancy in the face of the right-wing (Wright-wing) smear campaign is a remarkable testament to his character, his ability to maintain his emotional and mental balance, his skill at analyzing difficult issues and presenting them to the American public with gravity and nuance, and his sheer abundance of guts.

These are the qualities and skills we need in a president. Obama has been asked to address issues (race and faith) that are intensely personal for himself and for many others. He did so with restraint, candor, careful judgment, and rare eloquence. In the process he gave us a good preview of the way that he would handle himself and the nation in future crises.

Grace under pressure is what Obama displayed to the nation during these past two weeks. I am so relieved to find that the American people seem to have rejected the media smear and focussed on the essentials of picking the best candidate for the toughest job in the world.

  • @Sajwan: Confused?

The Journal/NBC poll shows Hillary Clinton and Obama tied, with each having the support of 45 percent of registered Democratic voters..."

"Obama maintains a 49 percent to 39 percent advantage over Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination..."

The explanation you are looking for to explain this seeming disparity is that these numbers come from two different polls. The first is the Journal/NBC one, while the second is from Pew.

  • @ midnight04

This is my point -- Wright is head of a flock that cares deeply about what he talked about. It is a mistake to cast him as the nominee. Obama, not Wright, is the one running for office. Wright has a national platform because enemies of Obama made him a national spokesperson for Obama. Wright has stepped down so it's over.

  • Obama/Hillary Polls

In the end, I will vote for the nominee. Although I much prefer Obama, if it is Hillary, I will just shut up and vote. I will never, never, never vote for one of those war making, religion pushing, right wing Justice appointin' Republicans.

And those people screaming about Rev Wright or Hillary's bullet dodgin' weren't voting for anyone but (fill in the blank Republican this time it is: McCain) anyway.

Please, can we have some real news now?

  • The lesson:

Those who try to portray the totality of an individual by a man of the cloth, is probably wearing the emperor's new clothes.

  • the more things change....

So, after a month of mudslinging and kitchen sinking, Hillary still trails by the same number, basically. Smoke and mirrors and nothing changed. The only sinking that counts is Hillary, fading day by day. Yeah, I'll vote for her if she does a Lazarus imitation. I'm not holding my breath and suggest you refrain also. We need all of our votes, every last one.

  • miscegenation

those must be some of the newly registered "Democrats"

  • It does show

that Obama's ship won't capsize and sink at the first sign of stormy weather. That speaks to the untested, unvetted argument.

  • We'll be lucky to get 45%

If Obama wins the nomination and then only gets 45% support, then there'll be trouble in River City.

He won't get 45%, he'll be lucky if he gets 42%.

The entire Wright affair should have little long term affect on the Democratic nomination because.

    A. It happened too far into the process to truly affect the outcome.

    B. In order to be effective, the issue has to be used to destroy Obama, and no Democrat will do that.

General Elections are not about nuance or great policy ideas. They are theme and sound-bite driven.

Obama will be attacked from different points.

McCain and his campaign will work on Obama's lack of experience and highlight McCain's working with Democrats.

Conservative 527 groups will go after Obama on patriotism and for having the most liberal voting record of any Senator.

The 527 attacks will be vicious and downright mean, but Obama won't have anyway to really respond.

Why couldn't Obama, on two campaign events, not bother to have his hand over his heart during the National Anthem?

It’s handing a pre-made issue to the Republicans and it’s an issue that will resonant in the general election.

  • Clinton tried the Rove method

    but it has not worked.

That's because, in their heart of hearts, people realize how unfair and totally wrong this charge is. The FACT is that Wright is not Obama. He might make sermons that Obama listens too, but that does not mean that Obama agrees with them.

What was wrong and evil was Hillary's glee at damaging Barack. In fact, she appears to have higher negatives today, which she should. Her campaign of "kitchen sink warfare" is not appropriate for a primary opponent.

  • Dumb fucking bunnies ask dumb fucking questions

"Why couldn't Obama, on two campaign events, not bother to have his hand over his heart during the National Anthem?

It’s handing a pre-made issue to the Republicans and it’s an issue that will resonant in the general election."

What a DUMB FUCKING QUESTION!! WHat a moronic charge!! What a stupid moron you are, jack.

The fact is that Obama is out there, day after day, hour after hour, running for office. People are taking pictures ALL THE TIME. And some of those questions will titillate weak-minded morons like you, ashhole. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO BE PERFECT, YOU BLITHERING MORON!

Why are you clinton morons doing Republican work, asshole?
