Huge leap
Bloomberg is a savvy guy and he has a lot of economic credibility. It is a good thing for Obama to have his respect.
Obama has said he plans to have a diverse administration and consult people from both parties. So being on the podium with Bloomberg makes that a visible promise.
It's a huge leap from that -- Bloomberg respects Obama (and, who knows?, may support him) to running mate. It seems like such a disservice to the public for the press to make these silly speculative remarks, based on nothing, and actually distract attention from the story.
The story I am interested in is what did Obama propose, as far as policy, and is he consulting on the economy with Bloomberg?

Good idea
Let have more corporate opportunists in government. Because we don't have enough of those.

3 Of Your Co-workers
Have the power to destroy the democratic party? Don't let them know how powerful they are, they may get cocky.

WES
I love ya man, but you gotta stop playing the One Note Wright Boogie Woogie.
(hint: take a look at the WSJ article linked in the "5 Things" on the right hand side of the homepage)
cheers
-
Can I Find
The meaning of life in the WSJ too?
-
no wes, you can't...
but it certainly suggests that Wright did not, as you contend, "cripple" Obama...I'd think you'd be happy with this development...
-
Yes
It suggests that.

@-- debaser
Yeah, I would not be surprised to see Wesley Clark as a good match for Obama. 4 Star General, Rhodes Scholar, anti-terrorism creds.
As far as the Rev. Wright controversy, Obama's picking up lost ground in the polls as reported by WSJ. The long-term net impact of Wright is that it gives folks who wanted to hate Obama, a reason to hate Obama that they can point to. These are the same folks who were clinging to the "secret muslim" bullshit and are relieved to have something new to grasp on to.
The way I see it, I can't condem Obama anymore than I can condem Catholics for some of the outrageous and backwards statements that come out of the Vatican.

"With both the Democratic frontrunners staggering and bleeding at the end of this grotesque primary season, Vice Presidential candidates are going to be beyond vital in salavaging the party's chances."
You are so right--and a gifted wordsmith. I wish you were writing Salon's political commentaries.
-
You, too, huh, Alex?
Sometimes, political reporters get bored too.
Is this even news?
-
@siebecker
yep, I wholeheartedly agree with all three of your points
1) Clark is cool, I was behind him in 2004 (honestly, how many 4 Star Generals who are ALSO Rhodes Scholars AND Democrats are there??) He would be a fantastic choice - would certainly shore up any military soft spots for Obama
2) I totally agree with you about the Wright Flap - It really did allow people who hate him to openly hate him...those who are at least semi-coherent realize that there's nuance to religion.
3) As a Roman Catholic I've been using that exact same argument with my friends about Wright :)
cheers!

Defective Reasoning, WES
he better take a very hard look at that nearly 1/3 of Hillary supporters who would vote for McCain. He better at least offer the VP to her if he is the nominee.
Or what? The folks who've already said they'd defect to McCain won't support him? Sheesh. Talk about playing a weak negotiating hand, there. No peace through appeasement, WES.
I think Obama should demonstrate the new Democratic approach by not giving in to threats from faithless "allies."

Absolutely not! The job needs a Bill Richarson.
First, with all due respect Alex, the Jewish community is hardly a neglected group in our Democratic Congress and is therefore owed no apologies or special favors -or pandering.
They run the Congress! Holding most of leadership positions in every committee, Steny Hoyer is the House ML, Reid re-crowned Joe Lieberman when he became an Independent - and in our government as a whole the Jewish community has certainly exercised almost complete control over most of our US foreign policy.
In addition, and more problematic, they also run/and or exercise full control over the DCCC and the DSCC. Full evidence of the power problems of those 'special interests' running our Congress is easily seen now as those same member/donors expect back something for their money -as they now use it as a tool to pressure Pelosi to aid 'their' candidate, Hillary Clinton.
As to who which VP would benefit the country as a whole, and who could qualify for the job given all it's lengthy and complex requirements -I've come to the conclusion it must be Bill Richardson.
Richardson, of all the people I've seen in contact with Obama, is the best match in every category -including compatibility.
The country, and especially the would be well served with those two at the helm.
As for a woman candidate, I think Claire McCaskill has all the right stuff to be one of Americas; greatest leaders rivaling the stature of Margaret Thatcher As a tenacious, knowledgable and gracious woman I want and need her where she could repair the biggest hole in the party -as our new Senate Majority Leader.

More Anti-Obama Nonsense from Salon
Warning, warning!!!! Obama is going to pick a guy who isn't even a Democrat as his running mate!!! What do you think of THAT, Salon readers? Doesn't that make you think twice about voting for him? Doesn't that make you look at Her Royal Highness and realize that she's the one you should vote for, Salon readers? Don't you see???
Tomorrow, from War Room...
Obama May Pick Oprah as Running Mate
(based on photo of Obama and Oprah)
Day after that, from War room...
Obama May Pick St. Thomas Governor John deJongh as Running Mate
(based on vacation photo of Barack in St. Thomas)
And then...
Obama May Pick Wife Michelle as Running Mate
(based on a wedding picture)
And still, we wait for significant coverage at Salon of the "Hillary's Fake Combat Duty in Bosnia" debacle.
As for Bloomberg, come on. The only thing Bloomberg really brings is $...dinero...moolah, and Obama doesn't need that.
He needs a totally safe, been in Washington forever, mainstream/boring Christian (Presbyterian or Episcopal, perhaps?) since the Reformation, ideally a veteran, older than him, white male figurehead type who will get the slobbering idiots off Obama's back.
