no Prez bid for Bloomie
I don't think he'll be O's running mate, but at least this should shut up the Bloomberg for President clowns.
Are you listening, Mort Zuckerman?
-
Bloomberg? Nah...
But I really wouldn't be surprised to see Wesley Clark as running mate.
If anything it would represent the sharpest dressed ticket in a long time :)

Whatver it Takes
I think I finally get what's going on in this campaign.
Though the general is 8 months away, it's hard to day voters aren't poisoned against the Democratic Party. I'm seeing blog comments from Republicans saying complimentary things about Hillary and Democrats disparaging Obama the way Rush Limbaugh used to go after Gore.
What it all boils down to is he dared not just to go up against the "annointed one" but also the 49% of the country who supports her. I think Maureen Dowd and Gail Collins hit it on the head when they say a large percentage of the country can identify with the "hard working woman barred from the boardroom by the popular guy for whom everything is easy" narrative. He's suffereing backlash in a big way.
What I've come to understand is that it's hard to assign blame for the situation as easily as some would (Hillary should drop out, they're both actively "tearing the party apart"). Instead I think this is just unfortunate timing. It's a lot like the Oscars-if you happen to release a film that would have won "best picture" in any of the previous ten years in a year when there's an extraordinarily strong field, you've got a problem.
Obama had been weighing whether to run-many encouraged it despite his "inexperience," and I think we're now seeing the fallout of someone who went toe-to-toe with the crown princess and actually "won." No one expected that. And now voters who expected an easy victory for Hillary are so mad they're willing for McCain to win just so Barack learns his lesson.

Obama and Bloomberg
I believe the Obama/Bloomberg deal; and I believe an endorsement is forthcoming.
The DAGGER in Clinton's heart. Oh my!

Yuck
I like Obama enough, although I would vote for either Democratic candidate, but with Bloomberg on the ticket, I'd vote third party or stay home.
-
Why?
"Adding a divorced Jewish billionaire who is the mayor of Sodom and Gomorr -- uh, I mean New York City -- seems like a potential hindrance, rather than a real help."
Not sure. Nobody seemed to think it was a problem for Rudy Giuliani. I figure people who think along these lines are unlikely to vote democratic anyway, regardless of who is on the ticket. Coudn't it convince certain "moderates" that otherwise would go for McCain on his reputation as one of them?
-
um..
seriously? this is news? this is even remotely possible?
come on.. how much does campaigning for clinton pay, really?

Bloomberg's Support for Bush and Ties With the Neocons
This should disgust anyone who has been following Bloomberg - finance tycoon, Iraq War booster, Bush-cheerleader, and Neocon ally, before the polls suggested a new strategy.
Glen Greenwald ably debunks the myth of Bloomberg as trans-partisan savior:
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2007/12/31/bloomberg/, with the usual sharp pen and truckload of eye-raising quotations. And need we remind readers who think of him as centrist or independent because he was elected by supposedly liberal NYC voters that they're the ones who elected Rudy "Freedom is Authority" Giuliani?
Were Obama to select this man as running mate, I'd consider that to seriously tarnish his ticket.

Being As
Wright has already stripped Obama of a big chunk of the independents and moderate republicans he was counting on, he better take a very hard look at that nearly 1/3 of Hillary supporters who would vote for McCain. He better at least offer the VP to her if he is the nominee.

other obama friends
indicted governor Anibal Acevedo Vila
indicted "businessman" Tony Rezko
governor Rod Blagojevich
maybe they can all share a cell together?
oh and rev. "god damn america" Wright can be their preacher

Necessary dialogue . . .
With both the Democratic frontrunners staggering and bleeding at the end of this grotesque primary season, Vice Presidential candidates are going to be beyond vital in salavaging the party's chances.
There are pros and cons to having Bloomberg on the ticket, but Alex has a point as far as reaching out to "middle 'merka"
I think the ideal VP for Obama would need to offset his "inexperience" baggage, and should be an incisive debater who can play the intellectual pitbull in the general. For criteria 1. I like both Dodd and and Biden, though I see biden as a little stronger on the second criteria.
If we want to look to the pool of Dems who did not run for the presidency, I think Tenessee governor Phil Bredesen would be a decent choice domestically, but lacks foreign relations experience.
Russ Feingold could also be an interesting choice, especially against McCain since many Americans' first thought is the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform bill.
Whatever the case, I think we need to have a clear idea of the total package that we are going to be putting up in November.

ha ha!
"Adding a divorced Jewish billionaire who is the mayor of Sodom and Gomorr -- uh, I mean New York City -- seems like a potential hindrance, rather than a real help."
I love it!
Recalls Annie Hall "You know the rest of this country thinks of us a a bunch of Jewish left-wing communist homosexual pornographers. I think of us that way sometimes and I live here!"

@natesmith
re: Hillary voters teaching Obama a lesson. Nate nailed it so beautifully. I work with three middle-aged Clinton supporters and none of them will vote for Obama in November. Two will vote for McCain (Hill's old vodka-drinking buddy, remember?) and one will stay home.
I wonder how many Clintonistas are completely out of touch with reality. When it's said Hillary is a polarizing figure, we should remember it isn't just the Republicans who see red at the mere mention of her name. The other side of coin shows a group of people who are behind her so blindly that they'll gleefully destroy the Democratic Party in order to prove a point.
