The US has been a hotbed of radicalism. Concepts such as ixnay on the devine right of kings, life, liberty and the persuit of happiness.
Suppose that's why I think we're not quite dead yet.
You are right. Political colonization is one thing about American imperialism, but what will always trump that are American universities that remain the bedrock of knowledge disbursement and political action. The anti-apartheid movement in South Africa gained momentum in the US after schools and universities started to divest from companies trading with the apartheid government.
