Hillary Clinton speaks out on the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and the Obama campaign isn't happy.

  • I just contacted both of my representatives, Sen. Durbin and Rep. Emmanuel

They're both party leaders. I'm only one small voice, but my one voice just told them if the party doesn't step in and stop this I will not be voting for ANY Democrats in the fall. What Hillary Clinton is doing is beyond excusable. It goes past the point of politics.

Yes you did sweep me up in a broad net. I have been swept up in broad nets constantly. I am either too young to understand issues, a sexist, hypnotised, etc., none of them which are true. I accept your apology and hope you know I will vote for Clinton if she is nominated.

Now back to racism, here is a post from another thread I did answer:

    --------------------

And that is why Mr. Obama, Reverend Wright, Louis Farrakhan, and any formerly oppressed person waging war on the enemy using the same weapons as their named enemy and at the same time claiming moral highground and thus the right to do it are more dangerous than the original wrongdoers. This level of hypocrisy knows no bounds, and this level of hatred knows no limits. The victim seeks ultimate payback, and if you listen to these men speak they want death and destruction to come to the enemy. All non-blacks should heed this as a warning, because you are the enemy according to these men and no punishment is severe enough."

    ------------------------

Can you imagine why some african american people in here might get sensitive? This poster was literally saying beware of blacky who wants to kill you. This is getting way way beyond a tough campaign or hard politics.

  • @ madamfauntleroy: You're One Of The Worst

Your little "missiles" injected into the threads as thoughts --brushing every Clinton supporter on Salon as a white racist, or a priveldged (sic) white woman, or a Republican, or some right-wing shill, or a victim, and hiding undercover while you make hits against these posters shows a level of hatred and cowardice I really can't stomach. If you're such a model of Blackness or civil rights progress, act like it. You can be a model for Obama's followers, if you would ever rise to the occasion, instead of sniping from the dogs*** pile. You want respect? Act like you deserve it.

  • "We aren't dogs."

Why do you assume Clinton supporters are then?

It won't work if people don't come when they are called. Both sides have the capacity for independent thinking, being as they are human.

  • aka smith

I never assumed Clinton supporters were dogs.

Why did you even post that?

  • to -- saintzak

Isn't Raum Emmanuel a Hillary supporter? I always thought he might be because he is a DLC member.

  • @ peeps: Your 'Racial' Post

I'm sorry; I hadn't seen this. There are people here and elsewhere that are ignorant. I don't support people who accept and tolerate racism or hate speech. And I can understand why Blacks and other minorities would get upset when they read some of the screeds that ignorant people post. My partner is Hispanic and I've witnessed the kind of stuff that gets leveled by (mostly) whites, simply because of somebody's skin color.

Thanks for your thoughts and your comments. I think all of us can work to keep our comments civil and thoughtful. But it does require all of us to do this. I've taken on Clinton supporters AND Obama supporters for language and behavior. And I'll continue to do that.

BTW: I have written to Joan Walsh and the Salon editors, pointing out the racist, sexist, and foul language. I have also asked that Salon please consider adding a tool that would block and/or allow us to report this kind of dreck.

  • I am your worst enemy walker

live with it. That litany sure confirms your paranoi. Why would I want respect from you? So many preposterous assumptions on your part, and so little of any meaningful discourse that anyone has with you.

  • to walker

ok. :) anyways, i'm off. have a nice night everyone.

  • AKA

I've been enjoying reading you posts. Its rare that people are balanced in their opinions even though they support one or the other candidate.

some comments and perhaps some discourse about this comment:

I think Obama should distance himself from Trinity in order to win. I am disturbed that he doesn't find Wright more disturbing.

If Obama distanced himself would it not look hypocritical? He has said that he was not present when those particular sermons were delivered. He has said that had he been present he would have spoken with Wright about it. He could be lying, yes. But at this point after 20 years wouldn't it just look like positioning?

    and

As to finding Wright more disturbing, perhaps what is disturbing is subjective. What is disturbing to me might not be to you. Perhaps also it what is disturbing can be assuaged by other factors.

I'll use this example but please don't take it the wrong way: If my husband cheated on me in a very public way (ala Spitzer or Clinton) I would be very disturbed by it. Would I be disturbed enough to act on it by leaving my husband? Well, I would but not every woman would be. There might be other factors which offset that action. Would the fact that they chose to stay diminish how disturbing the transgression was? No.

I am perfectly willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt (because his actions don't seem to support Wright's philosophy) that he did not hear those particular remarks and that he would have spoken with Wright if he had. I am also willing to understand that even though, in 20 years, he may have heard some disturbing remarks, there were other factors which offset any action to leave such as the things the church was doing in the community which he so loved.

  • All I can say is the Obamateur's are simply a traveling carnival!

lol! My God, please someone tell me they're really Republicans as I think they must be. I know they always come here and try to pit the candidates against each other every election. And I admit I just don't want to believe there's lefties as dumb as the vulgarians signing in as six different accounts to post profanity and think it's helping their candidates.

What an f-ing carnival. If they really are serious both they and Obama belong in a zoo.
