  • But the real question...

... is whether she'll get tough on one of the biggest problems facing our country today: Imaginary snipers.

  • Media Bias

Just imagine the media bias if Al Gore has 'mis-remembered' something like that...Hillary is getting a huge pass on this thing by the media. I guess they don't have time to dicuss it properly, they need to show Rev Wright sermon clips on the hour and discuss them; no time to show Hillary lie blatently.

  • wait

I'm confused...didn't she say that special interest groups represent Americans?

Oh! I get it...it's time to put on that populist cap for Pennsylvania.

    silly me

  • Hillary Grew Up On The Mean Streets! She Understands The Working Poor!

Um....does that sound even remotely believable to anyone?

Not quite clear on how the Billion Dollar Princess is going to "fight" for me when she's never had to fight for anything.

"I remember one time growing up my family couldn't afford to employ all 20 housekeepers," she says fighting back the tears. "It was tough. We had to let 5 of them go and I had to make my own lunch for school!. I don't want any family in the heartland to endure that kind of hardship! I will fight for the middle class!"

    Riiiight.

  • Imaginary Snipers...just wait

Since the imaginariness of the Snipers is relativly new, it will take a few moments for late night comedy writers to determine the best gags to create based upon this image (assuming it holds).

The real question with regard to this is if it will take hold.

It's a good image from which to create comedy, the fanciful Walter Mitty world that Hillary Clinton might imagine herself to be in. But comedy based on an person's image relies very heavily on repition of the idea. Since there is something of a cease fire against Hillary by right wing pundits at the moment, it is up to the Obama campaign and the late night comedians themselves to reiterate the story.

If Senator Clinton makes it to the nomination, then this gag will likely get repeated adnauseum then. Provided it's still fresh, funny, and workable.

As to the Senator's Ad itself, seems fine, s safe ad for a safe state for her. The real question is, what's next after Pensylvania? Does Clinton think this is her big stand, or is she hopping for momentum. What kind of Momentum is she really expecting? How much should she expect?

  • With all due respect...

How is this "news" for the War Room?

  • joe sestak,

a congressman from PA and a Clinton supporter said a few minutes ago that Clinton's greatest strength is perserverance...

My question: Has Senator Obama NOT shown perserverance?

I am not suggesting that Clinton back out of the race; rather, I am suggesting that perserverance, that vaunted Clinton quality , is one displayed by Obama, with panache and a degree of integrity the Clinton camp has yet to display.

  • 4 more weeks...

I wonder why NAFTA wasn't a key component of this ad?

I guess this means four more weeks of:

    1) division in the Party

    2) McCain running un-oppossed while Clinton surrogates (read that the former president) continue to give him endorsements

    and,

    3) more registered democrats

    4) greater fund-raising success for Senator Obama

    5) more endorsements for Senator Obama

I don't know whether to be glad or sad?

  • Obama And Trinity Church Getting Blasted

And Hillary getting a pass are the chickens coming home to roost.

  • Ditto

    With all due respect...

How is this "news" for the War Room?

Especially since I'm quite sure I've seen that ad on the Internet already...

  • What is a special interest? Does Hillary know?

There are two ways to look at it:

    1. Any lobby that does not represent the interests of the broad US population;

    2. Any lobby a politician has not taken money from.

Somehow I think Hillary applies definition number two (but so do McCain and Obama.) Let's take an example:

Clinton is leading the way, bringing in at least $6.3 million from the securities and investment industry, compared to $6 million for Obama and $2.6 million for McCain, according to the Center for Responsive Politics -- Citigroup and Merrill employees have given $519,000 to Clinton, $354,000 to Obama, and $338,000 to McCain since January 2007.

Has Hillary been influenced by special interests and Obama not. Well, let's take another example, Bankruptcy reform, where the banks and credit card special interests screwed the ordinary American -- here the impact of special interests was transparent:

When first lady, she pressed Bill to veto the legislation the credit card industry sponsored. Then in 2001, as a US Senator she rushed to do the credit card industries bidding, VOTING FOR the legislation in 2001. Then in the tight 2005 vote, when her fellow democrats were fighting the legislation tooth and nail she preserved her electability BY NOT VOTING! Obama by the way voted against the Bankruptcy bill.

So on the evidence, Hillary has in fact worked for and carried the special interests water for them against working Americans. So this add is up there with dodging sniper fire.

I will add, Obama has not as a Presidential candidate accepted money from political action committees (PACs) the main way that special interests make their view felt; Hillary is accepting the money with enthusiasm and hoping the voters of PA don't make the comparison between this and her advertising.

  • Was Senator Clinton getting tough with Wal-Mart on trade and job shipping when she was on its board?

"She'll end 55 billion dollars in giveaways to corporate special interests and invest it in middle-class tax cuts and creating new jobs. She'll get tough on unfair trade deals and end tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas."

    (From http://www.commondreams.org/headlines06/0312-01.htm)-

"And Wal-Mart's Made in America campaign, which for years touted the company's sales of American products in its stores, was launched after Bill Clinton persuaded Walton to help save 200 jobs at an Arkansas shirt manufacturing plant. The Made in America campaign has virtually vanished in recent years, as the company's manufacturing has gradually moved overseas -- another point of criticism by many Wal-Mart critics."

Is this not a bit hypocritical for Senator Clinton to suddently be an advocate for stopping the exorbitant importing and shipping of American jobs overseas, in view of the fact that she served on the board of Wal-Mart from 1986-1992?

Wal-Mart is very likely the biggest offenders on both counts.

And while her supporters could point to some of the good she did while there ... these two paragraphs I think describe her overall impact ...

    (From http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/20/us/politics/20walmart.html) -

"For Mrs. Clinton, being a director at Wal-Mart gave her access to several of the state’s most powerful business executives. In the early 1980s, for example, Mr. Walton was instrumental in building support for a corporate tax program, pushed by Mrs. Clinton, that financed a major education overhaul in Arkansas, a signal achievement of her husband’s governorship.

Though she was passionate about issues like gender and sustainability, Mrs. Clinton largely sat on the sidelines when it came to Wal-Mart and unions, board members said. Since its founding in 1962, Wal-Mart has fought unionization efforts at its stores and warehouses, employing hard-nosed tactics — like allegedly firing union supporters and spying on employees — that have become the subject of legal complaints against the company."

I have serious doubts about her sincerity on this issue, given her past associations with the largest retailer in the world, and effectively signing off on some rather of their dubious business practices.
