  • Please let's face facts

If Chris Matthews could rape, kill and eat a Clinton during his show, he would. His level of hatred passed pathological a long time ago.

  • BWAAHAAAAAHAAAHAA!!!!

That was really funny. When he tried to lay the 4000 American dead in Iraq on the Clintons, I knew he was out of control. I was laughing so hard I was holding my belly.

Except for the insanity, irony and the hypocrisy it was a pretty good rant.

Way to go, Matthews! You ol nut.

  • unprofessionalism

I don't live in the US, and know next to nothing about this Matthews person, but having read this extract of what he said, it's difficult to believe he's a journalist at a major news organisation. He exhibits behaviour that is totally unprofessional. Even if he were not a journalist, but an interviewee, his take on the Clintons would be over the top.

  • The Green Eyed Monster lives!!!

Well you have to understand: one of the major groups of Clinton-haters within the Democratic Party are those associated with Jimmy Carter. It's jealousy pure and simple. Clinton was a successful two-term Democratic president with a high approval rating and Carter was a joke who barely managed to win the presidency once and lost 45 states when he ran the secong time. Since then he has been a shameless self-promoter trying to justify his existence.

Matthews was a protogee of Carter's and if you look at a lot of the other Clinton haters:

    Clifford Alexander

    Pat Caddell

    Ben Jones

and of course Chris himself, you can easily see the genesis of it.

  • Matthews is a journalist?

Since when? It's clear to me that he's always willing to give his opinion, and he doesn't try to hide it, or appear "impartial" like other media sources. I wouldn't call his show, Hardball, "news" either.

So find another way to discredit him. It probably won't be hard. Just remember, did the media focus more on how the Clintons reacted to the Richardson endorsement than how the public views it? Or who else has complained about the erasure of the Scooter Libby pardon from the media's consciousness?

Feel free to shoot the messenger, but save some bullets for the message.

  • How's this for "sitcom" journalism?

"The governor of New Mexico -- toting his awesome beard -- was being interviewed on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Monday morning..." wrote Koppelman.

What is this obsession with Gov. Richardson's beard? This is third or fourth reference to his facial hair I've read online on in print. The man went away, decompressed, and came back waering a beard. Milions of American men wear one.

This is just like people constantly mentioning Javier Bardem's character's hair cut in "No Country for Old Men." And that story took place in the 1970s when a significant segment of the American male population wore long hair.

What is "awesome" about his beard? This is just another example of how everything is reduced to superficial analyses or commentary. So, what if he's sporting a beard. Why state the obvious? People can see it!

  • Matthews is Right

If Olbermann had delivered this particular entreaty, I doubt it would be labeled a "tirade." Nor is it pro-Obama...come on Alex...you drinking too much of Joanie's koolaid or what?

I'm no fan of Chris Matthews, but he's got a perfectly valid point here.

This campaign is not, and should not be, about what Hillary Clinton wants, what Bill Clinton wants, whether she ends up disappointed or vindicated, whether she's "owed" this or not, what she thinks she's entitled to, or anything else about the Clinton political psychodrama.

It's about who will be the best president of the United States, who will lead us into the future.

If that's Hillary, fine, then let her show it, prove it, demonstrate it, be honest about it, not embellish it, and make her case for herself as a political leader, on her OWN record, in her own right.

  • where in the world is barack obama?

on a beach in the virgin islands.

where in the world is hillary clinton?

making proposals on how to help our failing economy.

i know who i'd rather have as president.

  • Was this taken out of context?

Was this taken out of context? I didn't see this happen and the video and transcript start while there is a discussion already going on.

I read what Mathews said as people should be talking about the endorsement itself, and not how it relates to an old friend of the Clinton's endorsing someone else. Which I think is a compeltely valid argument. If an old Obama friend endorsed Clinton the discussion should be focued around why they endorsed Clinton, not how it made Obama feel.

Of course, I don't know what context this rant was made in because it was not provided. Sigh.

  • Hirsute, Hair Shirt, whatever

The real significance of this item is this: Hillary's only chance of winning the nomination now involves growing a beard.

  • The Beard

I've wondered about the beard, myself. I think it means that Richardson got his mojo back. He certainly seems more relaxed, engaging and charismatic. He also reminds me of U.S. Grant:

It's human nature to focus on stuff like red dresses, flag pins, hair cuts and beards.

  • That Whole Thing Only Made Sense in Chris's Mind

It's nice to see even an Obama tout like you, Alex, can recognize how nuts Matthews is. The question was whether the endorsement made any difference in Obama's election chances, and Matthews says that that's the wrong question because it presupposes a Clinton-centric world. What? The obvious question after any endorsement is whether it makes a difference in the election. That's not a question about Hillary's feelings I also have to say that the guy in the McDonald's shouting "with a tone of wonder and amazement" is an idiot. How would Richardson's endorsement ensure that Obama's going to be the next President?

  • Chris is having a problem

Hey Chris Matthews: I am not moved by people thinking an inexperienced lying politician like Barack Obama might get to be President. I am moved by politicians getting things done for me. That is what the Clintons have always done. Gotten things done. I think you should talk with your therapist about your anger towards maternal figures before spewing your anti-Clinton neurosis anymore on national TV. Do you have a bipolar disorder?
