Please tell me why Clinton is still in this race even though she doesn't have a snowball's chance in Hell of winning.

    Thanks.

How soon are we going to be able block individual posters? I'd really like to be able to filter out the partisan cheerleaders who keep using the Letters area as a forum to snipe at each other.-- Yet another David

It seems to me an article about partisan sniping would by default fire up partisan sniping in the letters section. Furthermore any discussion of the presidential campaign by nature is partisan - people pick sides, then fight to the death defending their side. Not a very intelligent way to pick the best candidate for a job, but thats where we are - maybe 1 or 2 steps past how baboons pick their leaders.

An alternative way to filter out posters is to glance at the posters name and scroll past their posts.

  • @ KateTex

So, Kate, when Obama does win the nomination, and when he does become president in November, will you admit that Obama and his supporters had the right idea all along? Or will you continue to wallow in your increasing bitterness?

  • Clinton at it again

I was wondering how long it was going to take the Clinton campaign to get back on the LOW ground. They were hoping the Wright situation was going to hurt Obama, but it did not. Instead Obama proved he is unflapable and showed his leadership skills.

Clinton's latest tactic is to blame Obama for the revote not happening n MI and Fl is so ridicuous. It is the state legislatures that make those decisions. Even her campaigning in MI on behalf of a revote did not convince the Democrats in the MI legislature. Hillary did not play by the rules and won't agree to compromise. She wants it her way or no way.

If She cannot win the popular vote how can she expect to unify and lead.

  • It's Getting Late

And she's wasting time. Goodbye HC, goodbye Salon.

    Indeed.

  • @BryanS

You say: "So, Kate, when Obama does win the nomination, and when he does become president in November, will you admit that Obama and his supporters had the right idea all along? Or will you continue to wallow in your increasing bitterness?"

Obama may end up being the candidate, but he cannot win the general election, unless voting is limited to his partisans in the blogosphere. And if he were to win, how would that validate your claim that his supporters have 'had the right idea all along'? Bush won two consecutive terms - does this mean that I should concede that his supporters were right all along?

Re the alleged bitterness: is this how you view anyone who doesn't buy into the carefully crafted Obama image and disagrees with your personal conclusions?

  • @ KateTex

And if he were to win, how would that validate your claim that his supporters have 'had the right idea all along'?

I was responding specifically to your claim that he cannot win the general election. When he does win the general, you will have been proven wrong.

I'm very familiar with your postings, and I've responded to a number of them. As Hillary does worse in the primary, your vitriol has increased. So, yeah, I see that as bitterness.

But you didn't answer my question: When Obama wins in November, will you admit that you were wrong about his electability?

  • re: Is Hillary angling for 2012?

I've felt for awhile now that she's angling for 2012. The only problem with that plan is that the Deomcratic party will want nothing to do with her in 2012. She will have little support from Democratic voters (she'll be toxic to African American voters) and the big doners will probably desert her. She's not just damaging Barack Obama, she's doing serious damage to the Democratic Party.

I think she's become a two-headed monster. She's trying to destroy Obama and get the nomination through some deal making with the delegates or be set up for 2012 if that doesn't work. If she wins the nomination she'll get shellacked by John McCain. If she loses the nomination she'll be poison in 2012.

Meanwhile, as this thing drags on and on, when was the last time either Clinton or Obama has actually addressed any issue or policy in a meanigfull way? Clinton attacks, Obama defends. that's what its come down to. Barack Obama has been hog-tied by the clintons. Really he should be taking on John MCcain, addressing the issues that are important and simple pretend the Clinton campaign doesn't exsist. He should let Clinton and her surrogates screech and thrash all they want and simply ignore them.

  • @saintzak

    Where you been?

Obama addressed critical issues in this country in his Philadelphia speech last week, then he turned around and made an excellent policy speech on Iraq in WV. Last night, on Larry King Live, he made a number of important points about his plans if he is elected president in the areas of foreign and domestic policy.

So, all last week, I heard Obama addressing policy issues, while Hillary whined and complained about Obama.

  • What a nasty memo

So high on innuendo and insult, so low on facts and arguments.

  • Meanwhile .... Beyond the valley of the ultra-PC

While Obama and Clinton are mudwrestling, there are signs that the GOP is imploding, something that Salon hasn't really covered, as far as I can tell.

They aren't raising much money, and a key figure in the NRCC is believed to embezzled some big bucks. Lots of house republicans are retiring (29 so far according to Politico). There's been some discussion here of who has the better coattails, Obama or Hillary. A smart democratic party (a challengable assertion) might use these house elections to boost overall turnout in the general and flip those coattails around. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9144_Page2.html
