Dick Cheney's former chief of staff will no longer be able to practice law in Washington.

The letters thread is now closed.

And Cheney Scoots Away

Libby took the fall for Cheney and a weak Congress would not move forward to impeach the VP.

"Iraq has weapons of mass destruction", a statement of apparent fact that drove us to attack Iraq, was a lie. Cheney stated that directly, without uncertainty.

At that time, it was the opinion of the UN Inspection Teams in Iraq that Saddam no longer possessed such weapons.

Ol' Scooter

is also the "lawyer" who negotiated Mark Rich's pardon with the Clinton administration. Classy guy.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 08:57 AM

Once again . . .

George W Bush stated, while commuting Libby's sentence, that he agreed with the verdict that Libby perjured himself and obstructed justice.

What has been done to correct his lies or obtain justice?

The president is yet to be taken to task on this.

Disbarment...

A move unlikely to effect his income one whit. Fatcats stick together and take care of their own.

Kind of like the Mafia.

About time

Disbarred, just like B. Clinton and for the same reason. Lying in the wrong place at the wrong time. The big difference is that scooter has been abandoned by his "friends" as no longer useful.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 09:02 AM

moral turpitude

I suppose if Dick Cheney were asked to respond to the news that Scooter was disbarred as a result of his conviction for lying, his remark would be, "So?"

Thursday, March 20, 2008 09:08 AM

so how's his bank account?

i have a feeling he might not need to work anymore,anyway.....

Disbarred

Upon hearing the news, an outraged Libby said "Pardon me?"

Thursday, March 20, 2008 09:52 AM

meh

Libby's law license in DC had already been suspended in DC on more than one occasion for failure to pay his $180 annual dues. He let it lapse completely from December 2001 to November 2005 when he worked for Cheney (coincidence?). I doubt Libby's too concerned about it.

Not like Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton was not disbarred; his Arkansas license was suspended for 5 years. And he was not convicted of perjury; he was fined for civil contempt. It's also a question of material to the case (Libby) vs not material (Clinton). In Clinton's case, the judge threw out Paula Jones's lawsuit on the grounds that even if everything the plantiff alleged were true, it did not constitute sexual harassment. Nothing Clinton said in his deposition would have changed that outcome.

Who needs to practice law....?

When you're a commentator on Fox News, which is where Libby will be within a year.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 10:18 AM

For what Libby was doing...

...any actual proof that he understood the law would seem to be incriminatory. Of course, he could always Fredo his way out and claim he couldn't recall.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 10:29 AM

you can't tell a rightwinger anything

"Bill Clinton was not disbarred; his Arkansas license was suspended for 5 years. And he was not convicted of perjury; he was fined for civil contempt."

a decade later, and they still cling to falsehoods about documented historical events. coming soon "and the clinton administration trashed the white house when they left, really, no fib"

No Cushy Law Firm Job for Him

But he'll still be rewarded by his Evil Lord Cheney for his deeds. I heard a great quote the other day on Pacifica Radio- "Would Darth Vader be any less evil if he wore white?"

B. Clinton's disbarment

Mea Culpa!

I checked wikipedia; "Clinton was disbarred from his Arkansas law license for five years and ordered to pay $25,000 in fines to that state's bar officials."

I forgot that he withdrew from the Supreme Court bar before being disbarred there.

I guess it is different. Libby was disbarred for perjury. B. Clinton, on the other hand, was disbarred as part of an agreement that prosecutors wouldn't pursue federal perjury charges against him.

@ Tyler_Mason

Kudos to you for a genuine mea culpa.

@ pubius maximus

Nah, the Mafiosi I know have more integrity than these slimebags.

And what's the big deal about Scooter being disbarred anyway? As "pubius" states, it won't affect his income, and at bottom, of what significance is one political toady's disbarment in a lawless society?

Thursday, March 20, 2008 04:05 PM

Scooter's Been Dismembered?!?

Disbarred!

Oh, ok.

Sometimes we hear only what we want...

The Marc Rich lie --

"Ol' Scooter is also the "lawyer" who negotiated Mark Rich's pardon with the Clinton administration. Classy guy.

"-- siebecker "

1. Marc Rich was smeared because associated with Bill Clinton;

2. Marc Rich did not receive a full pardon. He was pardoned only of the tax law violation charges, which whis lawyers, lawyers at the DOJ, found were based upon a distortion of the law. The distorter of the law was US AG Guliani as part of his subsequent "tough on crime" campaign image.

Libby, as is the norm, was paid by his client to apply/lobby for a pardon.

And Wikiepdia can be trusted, because ---

Microsoft sez so.

"B. Clinton's disbarment

"I checked wikipedia; "Clinton was disbarred from his Arkansas law license for five years and ordered to pay $25,000 in fines to that state's bar officials.

And who pursued disbarment? The bar, or Republican'ts? The answer is obvious: Republican'ts.

"I guess it is different. Libby was disbarred for perjury. B. Clinton, on the other hand, was disbarred as part of an agreement that prosecutors wouldn't pursue federal perjury charges against him.

"-- Tyler_Mason"

There weren't actually any "Federal perjury charges," as he was acquitted of that charge by the Republican't-controlled Senate.

But we want to leave out the fact that the Clinton impeachment was a partisan Republican't witchhunt led by a Republican't congressman who was having an affair with a MARRIED woman at the same time.

Republican'ts: Hypocrisy R Us. Liars R Us, Too.
