Oh brilliant one...Please tell me why Obama decided "today" was the day to repudiate uncle Wright's "Philosophies"...Was this because of the media shitstorm or does he acutally believe his own words...Folks are on here stating that Obama distanced himself last year...Please provide the links...As well the sermon in question is from Christmas of 2007...This begs two qustions: 1) Why did it take Obama until March 14th 2008 (Almost 3 months) to "find out about" and "denounce" these comments? 2) Why wasn't Obama at the Christmas sermon?

snoman
No my friend you don't get it. Just because some people are distrustful does not give them an excuse to be ignorant.
-
It's not paranoia if they're following you around
Just because some people are distrustful does not give them an excuse to be ignorant.
You are acting like you are ignorant of American history, which I find hard to believe. Maybe you should no longer be fed and be banished back to the Elder Edda.
-
McCain
Look how many Republican preachers say hateful things about Americans. Why don't Republicans ever have to denounce people like Pat Robertson?
-
Karenn
The republican pastors are white.

Snoman is right about not getting it
Americans, you can justify yourselves by flaunting buzz-words, and taking dumb-ass positions. But, please stop posturing. You can win the argument to the satisfaction of a dipstick audience, but does that really satisfy you?
Barack is much smarter than his minister, much more all-encompassing in his approach. This is obvious. Will you deny it just to be contrary? Will you follow the "Bigger Jerk" strategy? Do you want to get off on a technicality, or do you want to be right?
You know darn well that a 70-year-old African American preacher might speak legitimately about the USA's racial failings. And you know darn well that Barack Obama can sit in the congregation, and not agree with everything he says. Please stop with your simple-mindedness.
You may be able to short-circuit the debate, but if you play the stupid card, nobody ever will give you any credit for being smart. And they will not give you a job, either, ever. You can win the argument, and lose everything else.

Uncle Fester
What have you been "hearing" in the barber shops and do you agree with the commentary...I'm well versed in American and Global history. I'm also of Irish ancestry and know that my ancestors were treated horribly for a millenia by the British...But if someone told me that English nobility used to feast on Irish babies for breakfast I would probably be a bit skeptical...But hey, that's just me...

The new pope has made some very inflammatory comments about a lot of things. The catholic church is riddled with millions of dollars worth of settlements for sexual abuse of children. The sin of pedophelia alone should have crushed the catholic church world wide. But I haven't seen the faithful emptying out the parishes.
I would like to know if you were as incensed when Falwell and Robertson blamed 9/11 on homosexuals, feminists, and atheists? What did you do about it? I'd just like to know so we can all collectively rid this land of all over the top demagoguery, starting with Wright, Robertson and others.
Are we now going to condemn candidates by guilt of association? I think Ferraro's comments were crazy, she left and Hillary apologized to the AA community. Obama made amply clear that he does not support all of Wright's views. You need to let it go at that. In a perfect world, we would all be without sin and I am an atheist. Go figure.

Oh Brother............
I watched the Wright video and laughed my a** off. He actually makes a great pastor and really, not much of what he said is all that big a deal.
First off, my GF sings in a church. Her pastor, is a conservative, she's a die hard feminist democrat. How is she gets to disagree with her pastor yet still go to church, yet Obama must somehow beleive every word from his pastor? For that matter, why is it that so many people are getting divorced yet they go to church? Including catholics? Why is it so many people go to church yet have sex for more than just procreation. Funny. I know most people don't even agree with the entirety of their own churchs doctrines, much less agree with every word from their pastor. So why must Obama? Hmmmmmm......
The great thing is most people who go to church KNOW this, because they know they don;t follow every word of their churchs and every word of their pastors. So go on and make this an issue. Your attempt at getting political points will just undo the "he's a muslim" crap.
As for the pastors sermon, Obama may not buy it, but so what. Its a good sermon!
first off he doesn't talk about all whites- he specifically calls out the "priviledged and the powerful" white men. Hmmmm...You mean its controversial to state that the powerful and the elite do whats best for themselves at the expense of the poor and the minorities. OK, whatever.....
Second, its true HRC has never been called a ni**er, she has never had a cab pass her by because of her color. Its true.
Funny how all the Hilarites were going crazy trying to parse Gerrys statement as "truth" when there is no data to back them up, but Wright makes a factual point and now "truth" is abandoned in the hope of a smear.
hypocrite much?
As for AIDS being man made- ummmm, lots of white people beleive that to. There are actually two documentaries that i've seen that make the case. I'll say this. IF the US gvt HAD the technology to do so and release it on minorities, i firmly beleive they would. Just as i don;t know, and dont really beleive Bush had anything to do with 9/11, but do i beleive he is CAPABLE of it? Hell Yeah!
Lastly, the point that Americas actions overseas precipitated the events of 9/11. What rock are you morons living under. Thats pretty much a confirmed fact. Or what do you people think, arabs wake up one day and go "hey lets hate america for absolutely no reason whatsoever!". You may agree with the US actions that piss off arabs- like backing Israel, backing dictators etc, but that those policies have alot to do with the anger at america from the muslim countries, and hell, even in other parts of the world too, is unassailable logic.
Why is it that when Ron Paul said so and Giuliani attacked him for it, democrats defended R.Paul (see Greenwald, etc) yet now its some great offense.
Notice also, that unlike the Grahams and the Robertsons, he didn't blame it on gays, or feminism- he simply stated that our foreign policy is creating blowback. Whats so controversial about that? Oh thats right, he's a scary black man. I forgot.
And lastly, why is it that Obama has stood up in churchs throughout the last year and gone against the black churchs about black attitudes towards gays being seen as "sinners" not evidence that he doesn't agree 100% with everything at his church? funny that no?
You guys are a joke at this point.
