  • Mission Control

Countdown to the first Hillary is destroying the party....T-minus 100, 99, 98, 97........

  • "Bitches get things done"

Maybe so, or maybe they just bitch a lot.

  • A Better Countdown

Would be the "When will Hillary release her tax statements..."

But you can't start a countdown at never; can you?

  • Re: Michaels denies SNL is pro-Clinton

Give me a break. SNL has been blatantly pro-Clinton, especially whenever Tina Fey is within 10 blocks of Rockefeller Center. She clearly has far more clout than all of those supposedly "pro-Obama" staff writers do.

As for Lorne Michaels, his conflicted contributions to both Chris Dodd AND John McCain speak volumes about him safely playing all sides of the fence. One begins to see why the program generally no longer has any point-of-view, which is death for the effective satire it was known for some thirty years ago.

  • Saved Clinton ...Again

The luckiest campaign in history was bailed out by SNL. Her campaign was increasingly irrelevant and unable to connect with anyone outside old white women. Then came the thunderbolt of Fey and the skit/appearance. I dont buy Michaels denial.

We democrats lose either way now. We'll get a damaged Obama or a unelectable remnant of the nineties.

  • SNL is a comedy show

How far will we take political correctness before we become a parody of ourselves?

Yes, sure, Tina Fey's rant about "bitches" getting things done could be interpreted as pro-Clinton, for those who are excited about spending four years with a bitch in the White House ranting at them on TV every night. And the debate sketch was one of the funnier things they've done for a while. I'm an Obama supporter and I took no offense because I don't expect to be informed by Saturday Night Live, I expect to be entertained. I didn't take it as a statement about politics; I took it as a riff on the vapidity of the media. Anyway, I wouldn't vote for someone because a comedian thought I should.

My advice to everyone in this discussion: Lighten up. Enjoy a good laugh once in a while. Don't take EVERYTHING EVERYONE SAYS IN THE WORLD so damn seriously.

  • Obama's double standard

Typical of the double standard that has been coming from Obama.

The media has been in an absolute swoon over him, fawning over his every word and never reporting anything negative about him.

The idea that this might come into the national debate sends him immediately into attack mode, which is where he has been this entire campaign.

Criticize Obama and your automatically a racist, talk about the media in a critical way and your automatically a Clinton supporter.

  • What's Racist

Is running a minstrel show featuring a guy in blackface playing a Presidential Candidate.

  • of course he denies it

for a show desperate to get the kids watching, he's not going to admit that the show has been short-shifting the candidate most popular among young voters. him admitting the show was pro-clinton would be as damaging as having Celine Dion as the musical guest on your seaon premiere.

  • Michaels should also deny that

the program hasn't been funny in a decade. Mainstream America is too busy watching reruns of Bewitched on any of the myriad of nauseating channels available to the dull thinking American public who supports preemptive war, torture, loss of civil liberties, a worthless currency, $4+ a gallon gasoline, and $3 loafs of bread as an acceptable way of life while their leaders swindle their wallets and brains into a combination of lemming-like belief in their leaders and a "I guess we have to go along" mentality that will keep them all broke, stupid, and most of all, in line. The Third World will soon be welcoming it's next great neighbor...

  • Possible bias at SNL

I don't think it is clinton bias to point out that much of the media have a pro-Obama bias--I think it is speaking the truth. Obama supporters do not want to face up to this.

  • SNL Viewership

SNL's traditional viewership may be down, but I would argue that the availability of their clips makes them more influential than ever. You no long have to watch the show to see the "important" parts -- they're on pretty much every political blog and news site come monday morning (not to mention on most of the TV news programs.)

And while the "can I get you a pillow" sketch has become iconic, I honestly think Tina Fey's one-sided (but legitimately funny) rant on Update hit home with a lot of people. I support Obama, and totally disagree with her assessment, but "I want to watch that Starsky" line was awesome.

The most shocking news to come out of this post: Seth Meyers is the head writer for SNL now?!?!

  • If you're not against her, you're against him

For many, this isn't a campaign, it's a quasi-religious movement. If you can stomach sites like Daily Kos you will frequently find "testimonials" on the rec list from "converts" who have "seen the light" and finally committed to Obama. Anybody who denies Obama's inherent superiority or defends Clinton is treated as a heretic. The social pressure to convert is overwhelming. This has spread to many progressive sites on the web. Interestingly, any site that is not actively pro-Obama, or tries to balance both sides, is considered pro-Clinton. As in many religious movements, there is no middle ground. You are with them or against them. Unfortunately, that means that a lot of people like me, people who see movements of any kind as undesirable in the expreme, are being pushed to he outside, whether we want to be there or not. If this movement spreads during the general election, I am afraid that Obama supporters will end up alienating as many people as they attract.

  • big surprise indeed

SNL does not throw itself worshipfully at Obama's feet like the rest of the media and of course they get accused of being biased towards Clinton.

Because to deny the coronation of His Hopeness is no less than treason for any liberal these days.

  • The denial comes as a bit of a surprise

The Tina Fey sketch was funny, I'll admit. But the impact of having Clinton on the week before the Ohio and Pennsylvania primaries certainly made a difference. They could have had Obama on, right?

Last week, there was a sketch related to the "3 A.M." ad (as I mentioned in a previous post) which hit hard on the Clinton line of Obama's "inexperience". It showed Clinton counseling an inept President Obama on the phone at 3 A.M. during a crisis. Satire certainly has it's place, but that seemed like a thinly veiled political hit job. I've been watching SNL since I was seven years old and I can't recall a sketch that biased.

If SNL wants to have a Clinton bias, fine. But at least be open about it.
