I'm not going to bother going through your points, all of which are valid opinions, many of which I agree with and some of which I don't and much of which we've gone over before. And I don't at all question your fairness in ascribing victories and losses--though we've disagreed on many an occasion, I've said before and continue to believe you're one of the more balanced and reasoned voices on this forum. And though I'm not going through your points one by one--I appreciate the time you took to do so. I agree that they are all factors that should be taken into account, along with others you mentioned, that I might add, and probably some neither of us comes up with or could have foreseen--such as which one is more likely to frequent a high-priced prostitution ring, for instance :)

That's cool. I think you and I are the only ones looking at this comments thread now, so we might as well be talking about our favorite pizza toppings or something. (I like artichoke hearts....is that unmanly of me?)

Personally I am looking forward to this nomination process being over. I would much rather be talking about the NSA wiretaps and the Iraq reports and everything else. With the Ferraro flap dying down, maybe there will be some peace for a while.

I'm off to get some exercise. Too much time in front of the computer is bad, bad, bad.

Love artichoke hearts on pizza--in fact, had 'em on pasta last night

it is actually getting wearying isn't it? I too look forward to it being over, especially as I'm happy either way.

see--there's your problem--I'm actually typing this while I'm on the treadmill

nice to end one of these on a good note--have a good night

  • Why now select new delegates by lottery and give them all expense paid convention trips?

Costwise it makes no sense to hold two primaries, but neither does it make any sense to assume if the primary were going to count the vote outcome would be the same. If I am selected as a delegate, such as I was at caucus I will, without regard to my candidate's views, resist accrediting a Florida delegation without a revote or a random selection of delegates.

Financially, it makes more sense to do a lottery among Democrats (or those who didn't vote in the Republican primary) to select the state's delegation and let them vote as they see fit.

Florida's views shouldn't even matter to national Democrats. Starting in 1968 Florida has only sent Democratic electors to vote for President in 1976 and 1996. They have no business choosing the Democratic nominee, since as Al Gore definitely showed, the popular vote does not matter.

The reason I am so adamant about Florida's rule violation is that I want my state too to someday have a chance to narrow the field of Presidential candidates as New Hampshire and Iowa do. That will never be possible if the Democratic Party doesn't even have the stomach to enforce its own rules. If Florida and Michigan are allowed to send delegates without an approved selection process, the choosing of a President will become even more of a free for all as state's continue to move up dates that are already wastefully early.
