does that mean he was a client or he operated the thing?
I have read elsewhere that he is allegedly a client.
Now will someone tell me how Crusader Rabbit has been a prosecutor of some of the largest cases around as New York's Attorney General, is elected Governor, and now it comes out he is invloved in a prostitution ring?
Guys like to copulate for sport, fun and pleasure.
Never knew that, I guess that's what the media is there for, to keep us informed.
All right not a great defense, partaking in prostition services is illegal as well as the prostitution itself. And you can't be enforcing the law while breaking the law yourself and supporting those who break the law.
But dang another hero bites the dust.
I was a fan of his, but if this is true... I hope he exits from the public stage, and ASAP.
What is it with the people in power?
Didn't think he was gonna get caught?
Maybe you have to be a gambler addict personality to want to get in that game...
Oh well he probably would have been president some day.... I hope it was worth it...
Spitzer was a great Attorney-General for New York, really going after big business. I figured his election to Governor would prove to be a harbinger to a Presidential bid in 2016, or even 2012. Since his election to Governor, he's been revealed to have used State Police to track a political rival, his public approval rating has plummetted, and now he's implicated in a sordid (and hypocritical) prostitution scandal. What a disappointment.
Spitzer may be the tough guy hero of many Dems, but he is as much of an authoritarian as Rudy Giuliani ever was. He is equally vindictive and self-serving in his prosecutions and showed as soon as he assumed the governorship that he couldn't be trusted with the levers of power when he used the state police to try to catch his political adversary (a complete scumbag named Joseph Bruno who is the leader of the State Senate and a republican, but that is besides the point) misusing government services.
Good riddance to him. He may not have to resign and he may even win re-election someday, but he's never going to be a serious presidential contender and that is a relief.
The rule of law is all we have as Americans to unite us. We're not culturally, racially, linguistically, ethnically, culturally homogeneous. We do however have a Constitution which says ( in essence) that this is the law and the law is king. Any assault on that law -- whether it is (obviously) George Bush's criminal regime, or Bill Clinton lying under oath, or Ken Starr's vindictive witch-hunt or Spizter locking up people for doing things that he is doing himself -- needs to be fought with all of our power.
Bye bye Eliot. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
The New York Times headline makes it sound like Spitzer was involved in operating a prostitution ring, yet the story the story seems to be that he was a CLIENT. That strikes me as a wildly misleading headline, and I am baffled why Salon is mindlessly parroting that headline.
But this remains question #1 on the open book test that is "How do I not embarass myself in elected office."
And people keep failing it anyways.
In JFK's day this would never have made the papers. And if he had not taken on prostitution rings in the past this would not be such a bummer. There have been legions of skirt-chasing politicians and movers and shakers...it probably goes with the testosterone raging through the power types. It should be a big "so what?" But when you've prosecuted prostitution rings and THEN are patronizing them..it makes it a problem. I feel sorry for his wife and kids. Too bad he coulda been a contendah.
It's like something straight out of Godfather II !
Salon, the NYT, CNN, and everyone else is succumbing to hysteria. "Linked," "tied" are totally inaccurate because they imply that he 1) organized the ring or 2) funded the ring or 3) profited by it through an investment or something close to all of those. David Vitter was always listed as a client of the D.C. Madam, not "linked to" or "involved in" a "prostitution ring."
The Dems were poised to take back the senate in the fall. This is not going to help. I'm one of the ones who thought Spitzer could really shake up Albany, one of the most dysfunctional state governments around. But he has really really let us down.
Omigawd, he had sex for money. That anyone cares says more about them than it does about Spitzer.
But then, Spitzer is such a hardcore law-and-order type in other areas, and given that he lives in a nation that FREAKS OUT about sex on a daily basis, it's no surprise if he goes down for this.
Hillary-
I know alot of feminists are behind your candidacy, and with good reason. However, now that you find out that Mr. Spitzer was involved in a prostitution ring-- which may very well have exploited women-- do you renounce or reject him? Please don't say "both"... that was Obama's answer and the last thing you need is another plagiarism rap against you.
... do you suppose Spitzer was behind the "since you asked" letters about professional suicide and prostitutes?
He was conducting an undercover investigation, but he got out of his depth and was sucked in.
He will now be taking a sabbatical year studying organized crime counter strategies in Colombia after a month's vacation in Thailand.
These allegations will not affect his plans to run for the White House as soon as they are forgotten.
At the present time he will not take any more questions.

Perhaps it's payback for my/our schaudenfraude as progressives when we see corrupt/hypocritical Repubs - Abramoff, Craig, Lott, DeLay et al - bit the scandal dust?
