@Farhad
Farhad Manjoo: "Yet until the very end, it was also palpably downbeat. The crowd shouted "yes we can," but you couldn't tell if they could."
I didn't find it that downbeat. The audience sounded enthusiastic. There wasn't that electric joy in the air, but it wasn't "palpably downbeat" to my eyes and ears.

Actually
I thought that when Obama started talking about how the world was watching, he was trying to argue that the world wants Obama. That's the meaning I took it from it, anyway. Also, is it true that he has nearly the same delegate lead that he had before? So far it looks like Hillary's up 26, and she's up to a three point lead in Texas. I guess it depends on the meaning of nearly.

I must be hard to discover
that contrary to the obsequious screaming of the hypnotized mob, you are indeed mortal. Say what you will about Hillary, she handles disappointment, frustration and defeat.
-
Largely true
They don't change much. And he gave a GREAT speech again tonight.
But, again, have to be honest here. It did change a little. Hillary had a good night. Let's not take it away from her. Give her credit where it's due. And she's still way down.
But the pinhole of light has grown slightly. Not much, it's still a huge up-hill climb, but she did make progress. And she has a point. He needs to start winning the Pennsylvania, Ohio type states. For me Missouri did a lot for him on this. So did Virginia. But he should really pull one more of these type states before he can fully make his case. Just one. Pennsylvania will be an interesting test and this time not just for Hillary but for Barack too.
-
OT, but heck, it's NEWS!
HILLARY WINS TEXAS!!

@Asher
Asher Steinberg: "I thought that when Obama started talking about how the world was watching, he was trying to argue that the world wants Obama. That's the meaning I took it from it, anyway."
I took it as a comment about Clinton's decision to score points about going negative, and Obama's determination not to follow her into the gutter.

@A Billion Angry Bees
Billion Bees: "I must be hard to discover

Obama already got a pretty good idea about loss in New Hampshire. Clinton gave us some indication how she handles disappointment after Iowa.
-
The interest level just dropped like a stone for me.
Well, that's depressing. I can't help feeling we're not watching the Advent of Change, either Obama or Hillary, but the return of the greasy, old war-mongering male as President.
If I really thought anything besides gender separated Hillary from McCain, I might care, but really, I don't believe it. I find myself grateful it's not Huckabee or God forbid, Romney, & my care-factor in this campaign just plummeted.
-
You don't "win" primaries by popular vote
Especially by less then 3% between your own party.
-
And Yet again she shows class.....
She congratulated McCain for his wins, but didn;t mention Obama or congratulate him at all.
He, of course, did congratulate her.
At every opportunity she shows herself up.
She has no class. Sorry, but its true. To mention McCain, then snub Obama when he also had a win tonight, is just more of the same pattern. And mind you, she hasn;t moved an inch up.
Amazing.

Hillary had a good night, but consider this --
Just some food for thought. You can interpret it how you like:
-- Obama won Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati by large margins (though he lost Toledo)
-- Obama won Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, and Austin by large margins (though he lost San Antonio)
It's almost the exact same blue/red division seen between Democrats and Republicans.

Okay Obamateur's - do you want the "will of the people"???
HRC 2008
GO GIRL GO
BIG KISSES TO OHIO and to TEXAS , yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!
Superdels, hold onto your pants. You picked the right girl!!
Pennsylvania is next!!!
YEAH!!!
-
yeah yeah, Hutman
Dems always win the cities and still will. it's the outlaying areas that we had LOST for 25 years that was the problem.
HRC has proven tonight that we can beat McCain! This is a happy day. Be happy insteed of destructive. Time to unite the party again and this time with the right, viable candidate.
YEAH
-
Hutman can only be destructive
But he is suffering now, and lashing out. So sad.

Three in a row for Hillary Clinton
And 2/3 are big states that will be important in the general election. Rhode Island is small and Democratic, and knows how to choose a President.
-
Obama knows something Hillary doesn't
Remember those 50 superdelegates that are rumored to be announcing support for Obama?
I expect them to be announcing their support for him tomorrow. He gets to stay upbeat because he has his backup plan to knock the wind out of her sails before she can get any momentum back.
-
@Asher Steinberg: Delegate count
Also, is it true that he has nearly the same delegate lead that he had before? So far it looks like Hillary's up 26, and she's up to a three point lead in Texas. I guess it depends on the meaning of nearly.
From talking head Chuck Todd at MSNBC, who's a bit of weeny (in a nice way), and wows his fellow hosts by his ability to do complex maths, like add more than two numbers together. Actually, his number predictions have held up pretty well so far:
Vermont and Rhode Island cancel each other out.
Hillary nets 5-9 delegates from Ohio, depending on final calculations.
Obama's net primary delegates in Texas probably wipe out Hillary's lead in Ohio due to twisted and arcane TX primary rules.
Texas caucus numbers don't have to be reported until Saturday(!) by precinct captains. Maybe they're still delivered via Pony Express.
On Monday we'll have a better idea on the delegate shift.
-
@libertyson
You say: "But the pinhole of light has grown slightly."
I've only lived in Texas for a year and half now, but I can't say I've ever heard it referred to as a 'pinhole' in any sense whatever. Texas is nothing if not big - and so is Senator Clinton's apparent win here tonight. C'mon, give the woman her due.
-
@shawn
She won the outlying parts in a contest that's democrat vs democrat.
That doesn't mean she'll win them in a general election.
Trying to project winning in counties in the general based on what they've won in the primaries, for either candidate, is silly.
