  • FAUX WILL NOT SKIRT THE ISSUE

So what Brian is saying is, "Down with the pants! Up with the skirts!"

  • That's the pro-family bit right?

This is part of the family values "conservatives" so often claim right?

I suppose this is right in line with the "protect the sanctity of marriage" thing. How may divorces did the Republican primary field have? How many among the Democratic candidates?

  • Not only skirts

Not only skirts, but really high heels to go with them. Something tells me that long skirts would not have gotten the same endorsement.

  • Hmmmm

This anti-pants-for-women policy explains why FauxNews would tend to be anti-Hillary, but on the flip side, makes me wonder why they aren't rabidly pro-Bill-Clinton.

After all, hasn't he always been accused of being a real fan of skirts himself?

  • burkas are feminine, too!

Why stop at skirts? And they should highlight the gender differences by making their male newsreaders wear codpieces so no one confuses them with the girls.

  • "I am firmly behind a skirt..."

Wow, sounds like something you'd say in a bar with your buddies after work, not live on the air during a news program. But at Fox News, what's the difference?

I've always found the camera focus on women's bodies during news clothes to be absurd. The other day I caught just a few moments of the Lou Dobbs newshour, and his female co-host (who is sort of masculine looking) was framed in a way to show her skirt and crossed legs, while of course Dobbs had a desk or something blocking his lower half.

Then there's CNN's Robin Meade in the morning, who often has interview segments where she sits in a skirt and shows off her legs. Sure she's hot, and that's part of the whole point of her show, but....come on.

Media Matters humorously highlighted a Fox News segment (or was it CNN?) over a year ago where there was a split screen and on one side was a male commentator and on the other side a female. It started with both people's heads framed exactly the same, from about the top of their head to below their collarbone. Then, a few seconds later, you see the camera awkwardly zooming back from the woman, readjusting its frame to include her boobs/cleavage. It was quite obvious what the switchboard director was up to (camera operators don't just zoom back out of the blue -- they do what they're told to do).

    Is this 2008 or 1955?

  • A Few Questions:

Who are these empty headed goons? Do they have any life whatsoever that isn't dictated to them? Are they making mom and dad happy back wherever the hell come from? Would they kill so they can show off their legs and their stupidity? Is this really 2008 or is it a clip from the 50's that's been colored? Is the money worth the ridicule? Is this what we have to contend with for the next generation? How can they be expected to know the news if they are such imbeciles? How do they keep their toilet bowl clean?

  • I am losing my mind

Me: "I've always found the camera focus on women's bodies during news clothes..."

    That should be "news SHOWS"

  • Male Anchors' Success Has Nothing To Do With Their Sex Appeal?

I don't think so. It certainly plays a bigger part for women- esp. on Fox- but it is by no means exclusive to the Fairer Sex.

People are quick to note the 'exploitation' of womens' bodies compared to men's, but they rarely if ever note the underlying difference: women are not attracted to men in the same way that men are attracted to women. Period. The obvious overlapping aside, women tend more to be drawn to a man's hands, voice, and of course face; men like legs, breasts, and smiles (and booty, but you don't see much of that on a news-format show).

Additionally, women's legs are just nicer to look at (despite the maturing feminist movement, I don't see that many women abandoning the Sexist and Oppressive tradition of shaving their legs). Guys' legs can be nice to look at, sure; some guys even obsess over their legs as women do over their breasts- think of that MTV platic surgery show featuring some 'Roid Clown who got calf-muscle implants to pursue his modeling career... *hack* *hack* *wretch*. Additionally, a properly tailored skirt can look very nice and professional but I haven't met a single pair of formal, professional looking shorts yet.

In any case, those cats on Fox are scumbags who generally hail from the uber-patriarchal religious traditions who think women should be subservient to men because God told them so. Or because they supplement their shrinking masculinity by demanding that the women around them act 'more feminine'.

And, also, I believe the skirt-and-open-desk arrangement is a direct result of that infamous scene from Basic Instinct.

  • See, here in the real world we have to get bunion surgery when we wear shoes like that

A few years ago I had to have a surgeon saw completely through my archbone, cut a wedge out of it, swing the remaining piece around, and secure it with a titanium screw. I was on non-weight bearing crutches for 8 weeks and still have a 4-inch scar running along the top of my foot. Why? Because I used to wear skirts, and the pumps that typically go with skirts (and not even the super-high-heeled monstrosities featured in this segment). If you have a genetic tendency towards bunions, dress shoes are going to exacerbate them, because they both lift the heel and squeeze the toe, putting an undue amount of pressure on the big toe joint.

So, if anyone is ever wondering why I tend towards pant suits and loafers now, I can assure you it has nothing to do with not wanting to be "feminine." Why is the male concept of femininity so tied up with women having to destroy their feet?

  • FOX Porn

We have an LCD here at work in the reception area which is often tuned to cable news. One of the managers here likes to put on FOX because they have sexy women. Tits = ratings. But it also equals trash.

  • "the most awkward, unpleasant 30 seconds of a news broadcast in recent memory"?

While this is certainly in the top 5, nuthin' beats that time Glenn Beck asked that woman if he could take naked pictures of her.

    yech.

    *shudder*

  • p.s.
