Shades of Munchausen Syndrome
Maureen O'Donnell's WWII question gave me bad flashbacks about that line of attack used to try and destroy Al Gore in 2000; namely by taking every public utterance of his over his entire life and parsing it for contadictions; then repeated through right wing noise machines so as to create the impression that Gore was a pathological liar.
I'm sure Obama will get the Munchausen Syndrome treatment but I'm sure he'll do his best to make sure that dog don't hunt.
Also, I was overjoyed to hear about Chuck Hagel. This guy is bar none my favorite living Republican, not just because of his intense abti-war sentiments; but because he is one of the miniscule handful of Republicans that harken back to the original ideals of the party back towards Eisenhower; way before it was taken over by sociopaths. Trust me Hagel is no GOP trojan horse, the right wing despises him with the white hot passion of a thousand suns.
Oh and one quick Hagel anectdote; back during the Florida recount phase of Election 2000, Hagel was the ONLY Republican in both houses of Congress to buck the GOP Partei Line and endorse the full counting of votes in the state of Florida. I sent him an email thanking him for his courage and his chief of staff called me personally to thank me for the email. That mightily impressed me, anyways. Hagel is a good guy IMHO and I'd be very happy to see him in an Obama administration.
