No, really, I'm a conservative

During a speech Thursday in Texas, John McCain accidentally referred to himself as a "conservative, liberal Republican."

The letters thread is now closed.

dispirited

You missed the part where he said "dispirited."

He's

Getting old.

Give It 3 Or 4 Months

Before it's over he's liable to name Buckley his V.P.

He looks senile

I can't wait untill he wanders away from the Straight Talk Express bus and someone at a store or diner has to call the campaign and say, "Don't worry, he's fine. We'll keep him here until you come."

Slip of the tongue or savvy move?

Yes, he is old. And dangerously sloppy with his language.

But he also has canny handlers who keep the general election in view. By summer, John (100 years in Iraq) McCain will be trying to slide toward the center in an attempt to win over some suburban moderate Republicans and independants who are tempted to vote for Obama.

I hope that the wingnuts of the GOP radical right keep the fire to his feet so that he is not able to make this turn toward the center.

The real Freudian slip...

... would've been if he had said something like: "I have a conservative, liberal Mother, uh, I mean wife! Er... I was going to say, lobbyist! Uh.."

That would've been AWESOME.

Can you hear me now?

When Hillary calls at 3 in the morning, this is the guy who should be answering the phone.

Keep em both out of trouble.

Actually

He WAS a liberal Republican until he decided to run for president, so it's an easy mistake for him to make. For a number of years, he has been one of the few hands-across-the-aisles Republicans who sometimes took liberal positions.

Unfortunately, that won't fly in the primaries so he probably did himself a gross disservice by supplying his conservative enemies with this sound-bite.

Not that I care. I wouldn't vote for him if he were wearing a Democratic donkey suit and braying liberal slogans every day from now to election day.

No no no John,

That was last year

Old McCain

Why does he keep having young people behind him at speeches? It just makes him look older, especially when the young people look bored.
