She's really
coming off as a bit strident ...
don't think this is going to help Hillary.
-
when are they going to treat Hillary like Obama?
It has become very clear that allowing Tim Russert to mediate a debate involving Hillary Clinton is just plain stupid. He keeps interrupting Hillary, allows Obama to keep going on and on and on while stopping her from responding to the most ludicrous attacks from Obama and making sure Obama gets all the response time he needs. Just now, Brian Williams just cut Hillary off for a commercial. I guarantee that if Obama was talking, they'd have waited.
All these men just can't stand the idea of a woman being President. Doesn't matter if they're Democrat or Republican, most men simply hate Hillary Clinton, with Russert and Williams hating her the most (along with Wolf Blitzkrieg and Lou Dobbs).
Enough already.

SNL is a comedy show
I guess Hillary doesn't get it that SNL is a parody a comedy show, not an "authority" on the way things are. Her comments about the blanket and pillow were snide and obnoxious.
Obama is coming off smooth, poised and presidential.
Sorry, Hillary. Shrewishness and sarcasm is not our fondest dream for our president. We've already had that with our psuedo-president, Dick Cheney.

I'm an Obama supporter, but I do agree
I can't be sure if it intentional, in fact it may help her, but again...
the bottom line for me is not how questions are asked, but the answers.
The question on Iraq and Pakistan was the perfect example.

SNL
Heyjude rightly mentions the SNL skit, and I agree that she was quite combative in the "opening segment" tonight. I am actually posting because I wanted to point out that Farhad Manjoo didn't place Clinton's comment in the context of the SNL skit. Yes, many of us are aware of it, but Clinton's quote sounds really bizarre without her specific reference to the skit. She comes across as overly aggressive overall in this debate, but I think that, at that particular moment, she was partly just trying to incorporate the pop culture reference.

A cold word against Obama is an insult to hope itself
You don't hate hope, do you? I bet you hope haters go home and torture puppies and stuff. We hate the hope haters. Down with hope hatred.
-
Once again
Williams and Russert allow Obama to go on and on and on. Hillary might as well not be there as far as W & R are concerned.
BTW, Obama won't take PAC money but he will take a great deal on his house from political supporters...
-
One other thing......It is not about sexism or any other kind of conspiracy
The media only has one bias..... Money.
I do think that the news media does prefer Obama, but for one simple reason...Money.
Obama brings in ratings, because he is more interesting.
Any bias towards Obama, is about one thing...ratings.
I think it is that simple.

snl?
what's this about saturday night live? can someone elucidate please?
thanks!

OK, I take it all back...
after the start of hour 2, with the Farakan stuff starting...I would be hard to say that they are trying to buddy up Obama
-
"He keeps interrupting Hillary, allows Obama to keep going on and on and on while stopping her from responding"
PLEASE! They practically had to drag her off stage so that they could get to the commercial break.
-
and again and again
"PLEASE! They practically had to drag her off stage so that they could get to the commercial break."
Just now they went to commercial. Obama was speaking and they let him finish before going.
The point about ratings is right on. The media loves destroying people, any people. Right now it's Hillary, if Obama gets the nomination, they'll tear him to shreds too.
But right now, they clearly favor Obama, even with the Farrakan questions. (my guess is most Americans don't know who Farrakan is)

"minutiae"?
Farhad,
It's no surprise that someone who is healthy, young and affluent, like yourself, would find a marginally detailed discussion of health care policy a "morass of health care policy minutiae." I expect more depth, and a less dismissive attitude from a Salon contributor. Maybe, you might spend a bit of your time investigating the details of Obama's charge that Hillary Clinton "even" faced opposition from members of her own party in the 1993 effort to pass a health care plan. It's true indeed. The plan went down because of characters like former Louisiana Senator, John Breaux, a Democrat who the oil industry had in their back pocket, a guy who played a central role in the demise of the health care plan. The very fact that Obama thinks that people like Breaux could have been part of some meaningful effort to provide universal health care suggests a he is rather naive.

I hate these debates. . .
It is interesting how the Hillary camp seems be willing to blame anyone and everyone for their failure. Apparently personal responsibility is not big for her.
Tim Russert is being rather obnoxious. Apparently the debate is supposed to be all about him. Some of the cutting off Hillary though is probably due to her long responses versus Barack's more concise responses. I get the feeling they are trying to even out talk time to some degree.

To Debaser
My signature links to something about the SNL bit (posted here on Salon), and the video (I don't know if the whole segment is posted--I am watching the debate right now, so I haven't listened to the audio at this link). I referred to it as a skit earlier, but it was the Weekend Update news segment.

Texas Loves Obama
Hillary's battle cry will be "Remember the Alamo!"
-
Russert seems to be a candidate
It is both amusing and annoying to watch Russert provide a lengthy "I know my facts, so let me educate you" preface before each question. He is such a lawyer.
Overall, however, I think the debate format has been most effective.
Sen. Clinton did not do well with the SNL reference.
Not good. Just . Not. Good. Why does she do that to herself?
-
If there are plenty of pity voters out there...
Hillary might do well on Tuesday. For me it takes more than pity to put somebody in the president's chair.
-
The Boos said it all.
She's done. Finally.
-
Honestly it was not good for her
She came of angry and even sounding ignorant in regards to foreign affairs.
And at points he made a bit of a monkey out of her, like the farakan comeback ("If it makes you feel better, I'll both denounce and reject it")
These last two debates have not been a good idea for her, imo
