Blame the messenger
The Right Wing tactic of blaming the New York Times is getting a little old, especially since David Brooks seems to garner so much respect over there.
However, I would think McCain would want to admit he's having an affair with a lobbyist. There's a lot of Republicans who were afraid that McCain was going to be "anti-lobbyist" because of his votes for campaign finance reform. Looks like he's just going to be just as corrupt as the rest of the party.
it's about time someone took the Straight Talk Express to task for being one of the most crooked players in DC. Now, can the NYT run a story on Joe Lieberman?

Reagan
It's worth nothing that this is McCain's second marriage, and that he cheated on his first wife with Cindy
Huh, I guess he is the most like Reagan. That's how Reagan got Nancy.
-
Cheating & Keating
It's also worth noting that McCain has also betrayed America's trust through actions that he has described as regretable during the Keating 5 scandal. . .
-
McCain said:
"...At no time have I ever done anything that would betray the public trust, nor make a decision which in any way would not be in the public interest and would favor anyone or any organization..." Bullshit. What about the Keating Five??? And don't tell me that he was on the periphery of that scandal. He took more money than any of the other Keating Five, and his wife and father in law were on on the dirty dealing.
As I have written in numerous posts on Salon, McCain is dirty and corrupt - one of the worst in this Congress. His straight talk is all bullshit. If we had serious media, he would not have gotten as far as he has.
A few points: McCain hired Bob Bennett, one of the meanest, baddest, and most talented swinging legal dicks in Washington. (Bill Clinton hired him to help him with his zipper problems.) You don't hire Bennett unless you are in BIG trouble. You can bet that the NYT and their lawyers have gone every detail to vet that story. That Bennett could not, via threats and intimidation, stop that story speaks volumes. And it is not all anonymous sources. John Weaver has been with McCain for years. And take a hard look at the others who left McCain's campaign last year.
McCain screwed women who were subordinate to him when he was on active duty. He cheated on his first wife, and dumped her for a younger prettier richer woman. He has screwed around for hears. It has been an open secret for years - like Craig's proclivities.
It is my understanding that Mill Romney did not end his campaign - he suspended it. I think he can come back and still be in the race. And Huckabee!! He's been waiting for McCain's macaca moment and it came.
For those who think we are wasting time on unimportant items when our soldiers are dying in Iraq, and Bush continues to shred the Constitution, and the economy continues down the toilet: You're right. I'd rather have a serious discussion about McCain's fantasy of 100 years in Iraq. But if sex is what gets him taken down, so be it.

Cindy McCain
It's funny how they're making Cindy McCain stand there looking so old. She looks like Amy Winehouse's grandmum with her beehive and black eyeliner. What is she in real life, like 45? I guess it looks bad for McCain to have a MILF on his arm now.
-
Did the NYT endorse him
When they knew this story was coming out?
WTF
-
Cindy McCain's pained expression
Where have I seen that facial expression before? Ah, yes, that's exactly how Gov. McGreevy's wife looked at *their* press conference a couple years ago...

But what about the pig fuc*ing?????
In 1948, during his first race for the U.S. Senate, Lyndon Johnson was running about 10 points behind, with only nine days to go. He was sunk in despair. He was desperate. And it was just before noon on a Monday, they say, when he called his equally depressed campaign manager and instructed him to call a press conference for just before lunch on a slow news day and accuse his high-riding opponent, a pig farmer, of having routine carnal knowledge of his barnyard sows, despite the pleas of his wife and children.
His campaign manager was shocked. 'We can't say that, Lyndon,' he supposedly said. 'You know it's not true.'
'Of course it's not true!' Johnson barked at him. 'But let's make the bastard deny it!'

The rule I always heard growing up
If a man cheats on his wife to be with you, then do not under any circumstances marry him once his wife has had enough.
-
"but also"...
There is a string of "but also"s missing from Cindy McCain's statement. I realize she was probably nervous, but is her complete inability to form a sentence in front of the camera usual for her? If not, what is she afraid she is going to say if she finishes her sentence?
Also, I don't like that idea that one mistaken memory is a huge deal, but in this case, you'd think he would have gone through events in his mind pretty thoroughly before talking to reporters, so the initial claim that he never spoke to the NYT is more suspect than it would normally be.
The thing that stands out most is the contrast between this denial and the easy apologies that have come from Obama. Why doesn't he just cop to whatever things he DID do and be done with it? A cover-up always makes it seem worse than it is. But maybe it really IS worse than it is....

McCorrupt
McCain has been one of the most corrupt senators for many years, taking money from lobbysts while serving on the commerce comittee. Everybody in Washington knew it, but being the MSM darling fratboy, it has gone on undiscussed in the media. McCain, by his own admission, started cheating on his first wife right after returning from his captivity in Vietnam, providing an insight into his true character. The notion of McCain as a corruption hating mavrick is as insanly absurd as the notion of Hitler the Zionist. McCain is a corrupt warmomgering creep, always has been, always will be.
