The first President Bush will reportedly deliver his endorsement at a press conference in Houston on Monday.
  • McCain is a red herring; Rove will field an independent ticket after derailing Clinton

The Bush/Cheney oil aristocracy is acting tactically at the moment. McCain is not their candidate and they will eventually (I believe) field an independent ticket. However, the first order of business is to get Clinton out of the race and that requires heavy republican crossover voting in the democractic primary in Texas. The districts have already been gerrymandered by Tom Delay, so there are probably enough republicans to tip most of the delegates to Obama. The trick is to get voters to accept McCain as the inevitable nominee on the G.O.P. ticket. If Obama triumphs, Rove and the G.O.P. will ride him like a trojan horse into the Democratic convention. Obviously, since they've been funding him from the start, and helped him win his senate seat in that bizarre election in 2004, they know they've got the goods on him in the fall. The Democrats' only hope may be to pick Clinton with the superdelegate vote, and the courage may or may not be there for that. For more on the Rove strategy, see the article I've posted at thecityedition.com, which links to other sources.
