Letters to the Editor

Letters posted here are associated with the following article:
Barack Obama's campaign has released a new television spot countering charges his rival's campaign made in its own ad earlier this week.
The letters thread is now closed.
  • Whine Whine Whine.

What an empty suit Obama is.

  • Win Win Win

    What full suit Obama is.

  • Ya, saw that coming

With 18 debates so far and 2 more to go, Clinton's ad seemed like whining. Irrational whining at that.

This ad basically writes itself and makes people wonder, "What is HRC thinking?"

  • Please SALON put an ignore feature

I skim most of the anonymous and cynthera posts, but it would be so nice to not even see the name ... really, esp cynthera gets a bit repetitive.

  • This incident to Obama

When you consider how weak the Hillary ad was (not enough debates?) coupled with the money that she had to waste to air it, I have to say this one goes to Obama.

His ad is ok but because he has more money and his ad pretty much refutes the Hillary one. The win here is that he is getting her to waster her resources.

Again, if I were a Hillary supporter I'd be pissed.

  • Obama wins that exchange. What else is new?

Hillary Clinton opened herself to that counter-attack, deserved it, and Obama delivered it with confidence and ease.

That's the difference between Obama and Clinton. He can fight for his side without seeming like an ass. Hillary just steps on her own feet.

  • Oh yeah, one more thing...

...Using Bill Clinton's former campaign manager as evidence in Obama's favor is perfect.

  • @soopergrover

It's always convenient when you don't have to explain yourself, isn't it--given that your candidate is a hollow bag of wind. I understand your reluctance to defend him, believe me.

Why should he debate? He is terrified of being exposed for what he is--an inexperienced clown. I can perfectly understand that.

  • cythera45

So, how do you have time to both work for Hillary's campaign and post on Salon every 5 seconds? I bet you must have repeated the phrase "empty suit" a thousand times just this week.

Try saying this out loud to yourself for a while: "Nothing Obama can say or do will ever please me. Everything Clinton says or does is the absolute truth". Because that, in effect, is all you're doing here. Since we all learned that about 4,572 posts ago, we don't need to hear it anymore. So really, you might as well just be saying this out loud to yourself. You know. That way, the only human on Earth who cares will be acutely aware.

  • Xrandadu

there you are! can you do your song again - Cynthera's a little grouchy today.

  • One thing not mentioned here

This was a swift, measured response to an attack ad. No matter who wins, we're going to need that for the general election.

  • Oh, dash_7

I will say out loud what pleases me, thanks. And what pleases me is to tell you the truth: Obama is an empty suit. If it didn't bother you, you would just ignore it. But you know it is true.

  • Punditguy, that response was swift, but measured?

It was cowardly, and Wisconsin voters will perceive that. There has only been ONE head-to-head debate. Apparently Obama thinks Wisconsin isn't good enough for another one. We all know why, don't we? (Hint: empty suit.)

  • Good commercial

    Very positive!

  • Obama trying to buy superdelegate support

    What an empty suit.

  • not bad, not good

I would have liked it if he avoided the cheapshot back at Hillary. Its not helping anyone. Romney endorsed McCain today, the GOP is uniting and we're taking potshots at each other.

Yes, Hillary fired the first shot, but Obama didn't need to dignify it with a response. Push the health plan and the housing plan, ignore the cheapshots and don't make new ones.

  • Clinton Going Negative

That's exactly the problem. Her campaign's silly yet negative ad exposes her for being desperate. I mean who cares to watch yet another and another and another debate. Yeah Hillary, that's a great "issue" to focus your limited funds upon.

  • Very bad day overall for Obama

    Loses New Mexico caucus.

Has to explain, in a whining and defensive ad, why Wisconsin voters don't deserve a debate.

Is exposed for his lies about Clinton and NAFTA:

New polls emerge showing him down by 20+ in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

    All hail the empty suit!

  • Pundit Guy

Yep, that's exactly the point people should remember here. He didn't wait 5 days to respond, it was right back at cha.

The response was perfectly balanced too. The problem with negative campaigning is that once someone starts, you almost have to go back at them with the same negative stuff. This add actually balanced it better than I could have thought to do.

This did seem kinda short though, was Hillary's ad 45 seconds?

  • cythera45

No one cares what you are saying. I'd save your time if I were you.

And yes, I would also like an ignore feature so I can read responses easier and not have to sift through someone that can't get their finger of the F5 button so they can win e-fights to support their ego.

  • Hurt Obi?

Thanks for letting us know that the debate ad got to you.

Anyway, Hillary is catching up in Wisconsin and Hawaii as fast as obi is sinking in OH and TX. It would have been nice for the people of Wisconsin to have the candidates debating there but not necessary for Hillary. Her ad only exposes what a little coward Obi is. An empty suit that only is proposing second rate copies of Hillary's plans.

He is Bary H. Obama Whinehouse, and he does approve this post

  • @ cythera45

How do you equate participating in 18 debates and scheduled for at least 2 more with being afraid to debate?

  • Filthy

. . . in 18 of those debates he was there with more people on the stage and could somehow dissimulate is lack of substance.

    My favorite Obama line: But . . . but, but, no, no, no . . . but . . . but, wait . . .

  • @FilthyHarry

Oooo... careful there, man. You're asking logical questions to the pettiest, most illogical broken record poster on the Salon message boards. Cythera45 will write back with some gem like "Obama's a coward!" and "Empty Suit!" and you'll be left scratching your head as to how a supposed adult can still be using the rhetorical devices of a 2nd grader and not be kidding.

  • @ SobeOne

Yeah but the comment I was referring to accused Obama of being afraid to debate. I noted he'd already participated in 18 debates (with a smaller and smaller group of participants as they progressed) And he's agreed to 2 more debates one on one with HRC. So I was just curious what made someone think he was afraid to debate?
