Edwards leaning toward endorsing Clinton? Or maybe Obama?

The political world is still waiting with bated breath to hear who, if anyone, John Edwards will endorse.

The letters thread is now closed.

Edwards thought what?

Seriously...JOHN EDWARDS thinks that Obama is a pussy? Are you kidding me? I just find it more than a little ironic that Halperin (another shining example of masculinity) would choose those words to use. It's actually kind of funny when you think about it.

There must be something in the air...Halperin using the "P" word and Jane Fonda using the "C" word..ha ha ha ha

SobeOne

So do we put stock into polls or not?

They haven't been very predictive so far.

Yes you are right. I Remember New Hampshire and California.

Oh and BTW, Hillary won New Mexico.

Edwards??

I think what soured Edwards was the Kerry endorsement and if he has to carry grudge he should remain silent -- I cannot possibly see him endorsing Clinton as she goes against all he stood for; then it would make Edwards more untrustworthy than some of us thought.

If there is bitterness he should remain silent; if there is honesty than he could speak. Most of his volunteers have come over to the Obama groups as far as the volunteers I have met in my state -- that would really shatter their image of him. But I guess in politics is all about who you can use and for what purpose. UGH!!!

Re: Hillary's up in Ohio and Pennsylvania

Too bad for Obama that he is going to lose in those states, plus Winconsin, PLUS the convention.

Just when the right wing Christian nuts started to quiet down came the Obamaniacs . . . same shit, different day.

Re: Hillary's up in Ohio and Pennsylvania

Too bad for her campaign that the primaries in those states weren't on Feb 9-12.

No one cares what Edwards or Romney says...

It's too late for them to matter -we didn't care what they thought before they dropped out, why stop not?

But I give Romney a lot of credit for the quick endorsement-showing respect for his party and the country.

While Edwards is proving to be a self absorbed bastard.....

..he guy didn't even give his wife a minute of the microphone time to say goodby.

Elizabeth, you are by far a better man and a better candidate than your husband!

No Endorsement is a Statement of Reality

It's almost amusing that most everyone here is speculating on what the press is speculating, while John Edwards has said nothing. The fact that some are denying is influence at this point, tells me he still has a lot left. Combine his delegates with those of the uncommitted, and either one could get the winning margin.

It's true that Hillary reads more Progressive than Obama, and she said publically last weekend that she intends to make John Edwards a part of her efforts, AFTER she is elected. Obama has not made any such statements.

The only thing anyone has to go on, is the cancelled meeting with Obama. One speculation was it was due to scheduling conflicts, but Obama's people said it there was nevertheless an intention to meet.

His integrity is intact. Were he in the position to do so, he would blow all his critics out of the water with the truth, as he has done numerous times. It's not his fault the MSM chooses to ignore it, and paint their own picture that has so effectively been used to convince the public he is not relevant. However, the remaining candidates are using it to get their own traction, and the public and the MSM are still using it to deny where it came from.

Clinton or Obama?

John --- Follow your Heart!

I see your point. He may well reflect the genuine undecidedness of many democrats.

Maybe, then, he just shouldn't endorse. But in any case, there's really NO excuse for his public ruminations that don't help either candidate. I mean, really, why the *public* deliberation, unless he's angling? The day after Obama cancels their meeting (probably because he was insanely busy the day before the Potomic primaries) Edwards leaks that he may be leaning toward Clinton? and why take potshots at BOTH candidates as part of your deliberation -- publicly worrying about Clinton because she's too establishment, and Obama because he hasn't shown enough fight.

Makes me feel defensive for both of them -- like, oh yeah John? We're both still here, you're not.

I just think he's shown no class. If he's really so torn, he shouldn't endorse -- and if he has to speak out, he should say they're both great candidates. Its, yes, as his critics would say, slimy, to take swipes at both of them supposedly as part of a process in deciding who to support.

He was my top choice -- but this performance really makes me less inclined to back him for something else.

Worthless stock

An endorcement of Clinton by Edwards would send his political stock to ZERO. He could never run for office again. Well, he could, but he would be booed off the stage.

ACU rankings

On a whim, I checked out Edwards on the American Conservative Union's (ACU) rankings. The higher the number, the more they like you -- the real dogspittle reactionaries are usually 99% or even 100%. Lifetime rankings first, 2005 rankings second...

McCain 83 | 80

Edwards 10 | N/A

Clinton 9 | 12

Obama 8 | 8

Among those listed, Obama's the one the ACU disagrees with the most, for all of reactionary bitching about McCain's "liberal" politics. Clinton definitely tacked a little rightward, and Obama stayed the course. And it's ironic to me that the "most progressive" of the Democratic candidates had the highest lifetime ranking from the ACU, so I don't know if it's a case of style over substance, there, or what, exactly; maybe Edwards had a change of heart that accompanied his leaving behind the DLC.

Anyway, it's interesting that Obama appeals more to the independents, while at the same time earning the ire of the ACU. That would imply that many of the independents left the Democratic Party not because it was too left-wing, but because it wasn't left-wing enough.

Obama should pick up Edwards' healthcare plan and look it over in earnest; maybe that would persuade Edwards to support him.
