W.E.S. is spot on
Members of Congress don't generally make up their minds through debate. Debate is a way to get on the record. Everyone votes in their political best interest, be that through satisfying constituents or parties or moneyed interests.
Incidentally, the Supreme Court works the same way, yet both institutions have this image that their proceedings are somehow unpredictable, passionate affairs.
Mr. Smith went to Washington a very long time ago - Everyone in Congress is there because they are a savvy political operative.

Thanks, anonymous
For this link (http://factcheck.barackobama.com/). If Salon posts Clinton's speech, then they should post Obama's reponse.

I already told you, if not 2009, then 2013 no matter who wins in 2008.
-
The Notorious W.E.S.
I was really proud when my senator, Senator Durbin from Illinois, voted against the bill to authorize the Iraq war. To say voting for the war is your candidate's way of political manuevering says a lot about how she will keep her promises.

according to reuters Clinton has missed more votes this year than Obama
and an equal number of votes last year....
some of you might need to update your Obama criticisms...
http://blogs.reuters.com/trail08/2008/02/13/clinton-leads-obama-in-missed-senate-votes/
to get mad at Clinton for missing votes too. It's hard to campaign and vote. Bob Dole had a record number of missed votes during his presidential bid.
Just saying...

thanks wes -
you are not made at me - I'm relieved and let's hope your...
candidate wins next time - actually I am also going to vote for the H..illary if she comes in first - on this horse race!

@ Telecom amnesty
Exactly. Hillary's leadership style was certainly in evidence, when it came to co-sponsoring a bill that would have outlawed flag burning.
It was a bill that was designed to give Hillary cover, in 2008, other than that, it served absolutely no purpose.

TRenee
There's a difference between the votes of Senators with a serious eye on and shot at the Presidency and Senators who don't.
-
Ironic
Wile Hillary is making a speeches in OH claiming Obama does not support unions, and unions support her, the Obama campaigns has some of their volunteer centers in union halls. Hundreds of people showed up in Columbus Ohio to volunteer for Obama.
-
Wes...
...do you disagree with any of Senator Clinton's votes? Are you banking on the fact that those votes were merely cynical ploys to maintain electibility at the expense of principle? That once in office she'll show her true colors?
Good luck with that.

AKA Smith
Thanks for the link. Actually, this was an issue I missed. I don't own a television, so if I miss the story in the print media I usually read, I pretty much miss the entire story. I read the Times, but I have to admit I don't read it every day.
It does seem careless (to say the least) that he got his facts wrong about the passage of legislation that he himself spearheaded. But the rest of the case against Obama on this issue seems more equivocal. It seems like he tried to do the right thing but failed. A lot of my problems with Hillary pertain to when she and her husband tried to the wrong thing and succeeded (NAFTA, welfare reform, Iraq War Resolution, etc.)

The Only Thing I Disagree With Hillary About
Is she married Bill instead of me.
-
Ricardo
I gave up a long time ago with the true colors stuff. As I have said before, the right wing would be in perpetual torment with Hillary at the top. That's for sure. And that's good enough for me.

That's The Beauty Of A Hillary-McCain Match Up
The wing nuts hate them both.

Obama's Ahead Nationwide In Recent Polls, But...
he's running out of big states to win. Hillary's ahead in the same pollster's polls (Rasmussen) in Ohio by 14, and Quinnipiac has her winning PA by 15 and Ohio by 21. We know she's winning Texas. So Barack basically should win Wisconsin, Hawaii, Mississippi, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Oregon, North Carolina, and Guam. Toss-ups would be Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Rhode Island, and Vermont. I assume Hillary has the edge in Puerto Rico. As long as she can pick off a couple of those last five, she ought to win.
-
Oh, if only Hillary had married Notorious W.E.S.!
Then what she run on?

She probably would have used her superior brains to mine to get me elected President, and to be the intellect behind a successful two term presidency--just like she did with Bill.

Clinton supporters waving the Exelon flag
Not one of you has mentioned this article in the Wall Street Journal about the FALN pardons, at the end of Bill's presidency:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120277819085260827.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries
If she maintains that her 35 years of experience obviously include her time in the white house (and not just baking cookies), then she is partially responsible for this situation. And if she was not involved with Bill's decision making in letting these would-be terrorists go for no legal reason (they didn't even want to renounce terror when they were released) then why should we believe that her experience should count when it came to important decision making?
Riding both sides of the fence is a good political act, but it doesn't make logical sense. The corruption and cronyism of the Clinton years is something that has partially been obscured by the croynism and corruption of the Bush years. But looking back, there's a lot there not to get nostalgic about.

Polling...
Hillary's ahead in the same pollster's polls (Rasmussen) in Ohio by 14, and Quinnipiac has her winning PA by 15 and Ohio by 21. We know she's winning Texas.
The polls have been trotted out pointing to this, although it's a bit early. It'll depend most heavily on the get-out-the-vote operations of the respective campaigns on the ground, who's better organized in those states. This is where Obama needs to be hitting the ground sprinting, with every supporter he can muster in Ohio and Texas, and where, hopefully enthusiasm will carry the day.
Clinton might not be able to match him in field organization or enthusiasm, so she will opt to go as negative as she can to try to shut him down.
Any actual Texans or Ohioans out there to share what they see with their own eyes?

but what if you don't like or trust her solutions?
just sayin

RE:Obama's Ahead Nationwide In Recent Polls & Voting records
Clinton has been in those states for months campaigning Obama hasn't. Polls three weeks before a primary can change drastically. Considering the time left, the 8-0 - probably going to be 10-0 win streak, and the money advantage Clinton is not sure to win those states. Of course, we'll know as we get closer to March 4th what will happen.
As far as voting records: These two sites have some stats. I'm not sure how official it is, but it appears to be. Clinton missed 6% since 2001. Obama missed 16% since 2005. Given that they've both missed more votes since the campaign (look at the graphs) Hillary's extra 4 years in the senate affect the difference. If you look at the times before they campaign, there is a pretty steady voting record from both.
In short, voting records are not really an issue either can run on. However, what they did *not* vote on could be an issue. For instance, the amendment to give telcom companies immunity (which was not the whole bill as others here suggested).
