  • Um, wait a minute

So the Clinton camp's point is that there is no real difference between Obama's plan and Hillary's except that Hillary came up with it first and Obama stole it?

So, um, I guess the we should just choose the person who is more electable.

Ok. So beyond appealing to the incredibly powerful outraged english teachers special interest group, I am not real sure how this is helpful. In fact, it might even hurt.

This, along with the debate ad, would really piss me off if I donated to Hillary's campaign. Seriously, they are getting trounced and this is the best they can come up with?

  • No shock here

We all know that McCain desperately wants Clinton to win, knowing how easily he would beat her in November. Even giving her just enough of a boost to lead to a brokered convention would be good news for McCain.

The only scenario that is really bad for McCain is for Obama to continue to do as well as he has Super Tuesday, essentially locking up the nomination on 3/4.

  • Can someone Puh-leee explain to me...

WTF our congresspeople are doing spending time on this issue? Come ON!!!

  • Plagiarism by Obama?

It is totally immaterial where the news are coming from, who sent the email disclosing the observation of plagiarism. The only question, is it true or not?

Years ago Senator Biden tried to be a presidential candidate. Someone discovered that he plagiarized a term paper in school. He had to withdrew immediately. And it was only a term paper not a presidential program.

  • Oh, for Pete's sakes

So you're comparing Obama lifting some good ideas from Hillary, to a person who put himself through school by fraudulently passing off the work of others as his own?

Come on, folks, neither Obama's nor HRC's economic plans were drafted by them *personally*. They were done up by a committee of economic advisers and then run through the PR shop for packaging. And you know what? If they run across some other bits and pieces of other economic plans that they think are good, I sure hope they plagiarize those too. If Obama were up for the Nobel prize in economics, I'd be more likely to see this as a problem. That's not what he's running for.

But speaking of people who could win the Nobel prize in economics, you might just want to Google the name of Obama's chief economic adviser, Austen Goolsbee. I'm reasonably certain that Mr. Goolsbee has come up with a few good economic ideas all on his own and isn't just stealing from Hillary.

That said, I see nothing "unfair" in this attack on Obama. Go ahead, hit him with everything you got. Then we can all agree he's finally been "vetted."

  • @ ncawley

As has been said many times on this board, I think the problem that I have, as an Obama supporter, is the real condescending (sp?) tone that many of the Hillary fans take on this board.

For example, your post seems to imply that most, if not all, Obama supporters believe that "everything" will change and Obama will do no wrong if he wins the election. That's not true, and it's NOT the same as pointing out some of the mistakes that Hillary has made.

Do I think Hillary made mistakes? - yes, and some very big ones. Do I think Obama will make mistakes - yes, but BASED ON HIS PRIOR ACTIONS and POSITIONS, I think it less likely he will make the the SIGNIFICANT mistakes that are likely to occur under Hillary.

I'm not going to waste a lot of time on this because you seem to be posting from "talking points" rather than actually thinking about things in more depth. But take the issue of health care. Do you understand that mandates are not necessarily synonymous with "universal health care"? Are you aware that mandates do not address the major problem of AFFORDABILITY that is the major issue with our system? Are you concerned at all that people who cannot afford to buy health insurance would have their wages garnished, moving them further along the cycle of poverty, if they don't buy into Hillary's plan? Does this at all give you pause about whether mandates are the only way to address the crisis we are facing?

Do you understand that Hillary's approach to foreign policy would be to continue "more of the same" in terms of our relations to many other countries? Do you know that she supports an outdated "cold war" approach to dealing with Cuba?

Many of us who support Obama have considered these and many other questions when selecting our candidate. It's not that we believe he will change EVERYTHING - it's that, FINALLY, it looks like we have a candidate who may change SOMETHING. People like me (I have 20 + experience focusing on politics) are certainly not starry-eyed (although, sure, some Obama supporters might be). It's just damn nice to have a candidate who seems like he will at least TRY to be honest & have some consistency in his positions - it's a real refreshing change from the past 16 years of candidates who were often the lesser of two evils and condescended to lie to the American public on both big and small issues. The condescending attitude unfortunately seems to have spread from Hillary to her supporters, and it's just damn unattractive - but I'm not expecting Hillary or her supporters to pick up on this real soon ...

  • So What?

The media does not like the Clintons. No news to any of us who are subject to the daily barrage of ugly comments about Hillary, Bill and now even Chelsie! I see Hillary as her own person who has a terrific partner who challenges her intellect, defends her to the end, and loves her for who she is.

What is so bad about that? Plus, he was a supurb President, and after 911, we were all yearning for Bill to come back once we realized how disfunctional Bush truly was! Now everyone is berating Bill and acting like he is poison. It's rediculus and pathetic. The more I ponder the situation, the only rationale for this reaction to the Clintons is that they survived what would have been insurmantable to most others. They came back better than before -- still married even stronger by forging ahead with his foundation and her Senate seat. How dare they? By now they both should have been in Betty Ford or god knows where if the media had had its way. This is crimping their soap opera story of the Clintons. In fact, it's boring -- so much that sometimes they have to focus on Hillary's amazing ability to run for President as her own person, and as a person who has learned from past experiences -- good and bad -- and who has great, amazing abilities to lead a nation in a very dangerous world, Or... they create Clinton scripts that should win Emmy Awards.

Whether Hillary will win the nomination and then Presidency is yet to be decided. I myself, as a democrat, go back and forth between her and Obama. Even if I do end up voting for Obama, it will not be for the reasons most pundits like to prattle on about. I will vote for the person who best meets the requirements of the job. Period.
