McCain's Chances in the GE
I'm so surprised at some posters on these boards that seem to think that McCain will have a great shot at defeating Obama. He's having a tough time fending off Huckabee and Huckabee has only the evangelicals as a core supporting group. From the exit polls from all of the most recent contests, the democratic races, where Obama trounced Clinton, featured the heaviest turnout BY FAR than the Republican races.
What bizarre mathematical formula are some posters (Anon in particular) working with that concludes that the GOP even has the BASE at this point to defeat Obama? The fact is this: The GOP has successfully alienated large swaths of their long-standing members. My only caveat is if Hillary Clinton were to secure the democratic nomination. Only someone who is truly despised could infuse the GOP base to come out in force for McCain.
