Most likely, they have nothing to lose ... their own party is in shambles (and I have no doubt they have all sorts of glorious Phoenix Rising fantasies about what they're gonna do about that during the next 4 years).
Personally, I saw a couple of McCain's "frail" moments last months ... he's no Reagan ... he just looked old and dottering ... add his indiscrete "bomb bomb bomb Iran" bullshit and so much else, I think he's going to be given "his chance" at the big chair (much as I think some folks believe Clinton has earned "her chance" at the big chair) but ... it's a long way to November and my impression is that McCain's "strengths" as a candidate are highly limited.
I think actually what best serves Rove & Co. is if a democrat is elected and stalls-out badly .... like Carter did.
Rove & Co. think long term and they think and strategize about every level of government ...
FWIW, I have grave reservations about the electability of either Clinton or Obama regardless... I tend to think McCain's liabilities increase the likelihood of a democratic victory regardless... however, I will be voting Democratic Party Line in November, regardless.
There was no way this War Room post was going to do anything but inflame more useless ranting from both sides. Although I am wondering, where is the tandem post about Frank Rich's column excoriating Clinton on her campaign tactics? He basically accuses her of blowing up the Democratic party in a win at any costs attempt to secure the nomination.

And let the battle continue . . . .
Not to necessarily take up cythera's cause, but what about the sentence:
"And you know what? I don't care if the Supreme Court DOES overturn Roe v. Wade"
is acceptable to you?
I'm excited by Obama's mobilization of usually apathetic voters, but in general, I am very concerned by "movements" whose adherents are ready to conduct a social experiment with this country. Obama hasn't said as much, but many comments such as the one above kind of worry me. Incidentally, this is very similar to the language from Ron Paul and his supporters, also worrisome.
It's not that either case is automatically bad, but the impact of such changes has a real cost for many members of society.
OBAMA WILL LOSE GENERAL ELECTION
ANONYMOUS POSTS IN ALL CAPS ARE POINTLESS
I agree that John McCain is a much better debater than Obama and that Obama will be at a disadvantage, especially in a true debate, but why is eviserating and destroying him a good thing?
I think Obama is a viable and important Democrat with a fine oratorical gift. He must be eviscerated, why? He must be destroyed, why?
Don't you think your language choices are over-the-top?
You are not honestly posting this vitriol from Obama supporters to "prove" that his supporters are nasty? Come on, now! I've read many of your posts over these last several weeks, and I thought you were too smart to engage in stuff like this. I'm sure you could find an equal number of nasty posts from Hillary supporters as well. Let's stop engaging in this behavior, manufactured soley to bait and anger people.
But it seems to me that Cythera and AKA, among others, are so pissed that the Queen isn't getting the respect she deserves as the shoo-in candidate, and now she's actually in danger of losing this thing, they are beside themselves, in a sort of confused shock. And they can only blame Obama and his supporters, the nerve! to actually challenge the legitimacy of the predetermined candidate.... I sense it's all they can do to keep the word Ni**er off their pursed lips.
Hi, I'm the poster who doesn't care whether Roe is overturned. I admit my post sounded flip. Let me explain. I'm 31 years old, single, female. I'm pro-choice. But I'm sick of Hillary supporters dropping the nuclear bomb to end all debate: the Supreme Court. I'm sick of being told that I MUST vote Democratic, otherwise Roe will be overturned. I don't believe that throwing these social issues to the courts has been good for democracy. The fact is, most Americans are pro-choice, and if legislatures decided the issue, abortion would be a right granted by statute (not the Constitution). Access would be unchanged. There's also the argument to be made that the drafters of the 14th Amendment, ratified in 1868, intended the amendment to add to the federal Constitution mandatory racial equality for citizens as against their state governments. Abortion wasn't what they were thinking about. Yet it is this constitutional amendment that forms the basis of Roe v. Wade. It just seems... sloppy to me. (I'm a lawyer).
PLEASE understand that Barack has a perfect 100% pro-choice record from Planned Parenthood and that I totally support abortion rights. I'm just sick of having my vote hijacked by candidates who use the spectre of Roe's reversal as a way to lock in my vote. There are many issues more important to me than abortion rights, frankly, and I'd rather vote based on those. I resent abortion politics, is all I was trying to say. I think it has been destructive for the Republican Party as well as for the Democratic Party.
There is only one candidate whose supporters wear Che-Style T-shirts with a picture of there candidate on them. There is only one candidate whose supporters chant meaningless slogans. Before you accuse me of some sort of Clinton bias, I actually attended Obama for America and NY HQ Feb 5 Primary Watch Party at Tonic East, both phenomena were in abundance.
Also, I have never heard a Clinton supporter make the absurd claim that if Obamm is nominated they would vote for McCain. Voting for McCain has become a common declaration/threat for many Obama supporters, well at least in the company I keep, which happens to be young urban professionals.
One last thing, I read one commentator claim that there is plenty of Obama bashing on pro-Clinton websites. I would just like someone to direct me to these websites, because I can't seem to find any websites that can be described as pro-Clinton. The two sites I read regularly, Salon and TPM, I consider to be pretty neutral. However, the comment sections are definitely over run by Obama supports, which makes sense considering the demographics Obama carries. So, for the sake of a lonely Clinton supporter please help me find some kindred spirits by leading me to these so called pro-Clinton websites.
