Yeah Yeah Yeah
And at some other event yesterday Obama was again issuing lofty, emotional rhetoric to the congenitally naive.

The Campaign Trail of Tears
And the day before Super Tuesday, no less! Let's hope the coverage is broad enough to bring electoral benefits to HR Clinton. The nice thing about her tears(tm) is that they win some people over AND they play into the reactionaries' notions of the limitations of a female leader, so they're more likely to get coverage and undeserved attention, which will then draw more attention to them, and maybe votes. Oh, wouldn't it be cool if HR Clinton could cry her way into the White House? How progressive would that be? Not! Enough tears, for cry eye!

Alex, Just Admit You're Voting for Obama
Could Salon find one writer who isn't biased toward Jesus-Santa-Willie Mays-Obama? I mean, why are you reporting on this crap? Other than to try to push the idea that her tears are phony, I mean?
-
Okay, why are we covering tears?
Seriously, I think it's pretty well established that a) crying had diddly to do with Hillary's victory in NH. A little choking up does not pull out that big a margin, and b) we at Salon do not want to watch a campaign of issues trivialized by the mainstream press, so we subscribe to Salon for more substantive coverage. Why, then, is the first bit of campaign news I see Monday morning about Hillary crying?
This is not news. We all have emotional moments. The mainstream press covers fluff like this for ratings and to avoid having to substantially discuss anything that will offend their parent company and sponsors. What is Salon's excuse now?
-
One tear is worth about a 3 percentage point bump for her, isn't it? Isn't that the commonly-understood ratio so far?
If she wanted a ten-percent boost, she'd be diagnosed with a serious illness.
If she wanted a twenty-percent jump, it would be for the death of her husband, in the style of Mel and Jean Carnahan.
And Bill Kristol actually got criticized for saying the white-woman voting cohort was a problem?
-
Once was bad enough, but again...
...she's Tammy Faye Baker now.
And people still have to ask why the Clintons are so disliked.

Cry Me A River
1) It's fascinating to see how Clinton supporters react to a fairly neutral article.
2) Aside from that, who gives a fuck? I mean, really?
-
You all might have noticed...
That she only wiped her LEFT eye.
I wonder what that means?
-
How completely shallow, stupid and meaningless this is
Can everyone just shut up about this, after admitting that human beings who retain even a shred of humanity inside themselves WILL TEAR UP AND EVEN *CRY* once in a while?
How come there was no similar wailing and gnashing of teeth over Dubya being photographed with a tear streaming down his face at a Congressional Medal of Honor ceremony a year ago? As bad a Commander in Chief as Dubya is, is he any WORSE for being seen to cry in public?
From a news report published 1/12/07: "A tear rolled down Mr Bush's cheek as he honoured 22-year-old Marine Jason Dunham, killed two years ago when he fell on a hand grenade in Iraq to save his comrades." And see this picture at:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/01/12/wiraq12.xml
Good grief, people, try to keep some perspective. Why don't we talk about SUBSTANCE, and avoid ridiculous non-issues like this? (Or, like George H.W. Bush crying over his son Jeb?)
-
I Would Be Crying Too
If I was about to get spanked as badly as she is tomorrow.
-
Change the Subject
Reminds me of John Ashcroft, issuing "Terror Alerts" every time Bush's approval rating dropped below 47% during the 2004 election.
-
hard or soft
She's a woman? Is that why we get to hear about this? Because there may be someone out there who thinks a "girl" can't lead so we get to hear about her tears as information on whether she truly is "girly and weak"?
Or, she's a bitch? So, because everyone might think that old hilbot is frigid and hard this information is reported so that it provides insight into whether she is or is not a robot?
I mean, if someone from Obama's past introduced him and he got weepy, we'd see it in some off to the side photo collection at best.
This is ridiculous. The coverage of something like this insults everyone and forces her campaign to navigate in that water to everyone's detriment...And I am an Obama supporter!!
-
Pssst... Clinton supporters ...
You might go easy on attacking on Obama supporters. You're going to need these congenitally naive dupes to vote for your candidate come the general election. It's going to be hard enough for us to pull the lever for a candidate we have strong reservations about without having to put up with months and months of being insulted by that candidates' supporters. Personally, my resentment has grown to the point where I may not vote at all if Hillary's the nominee ...
Here's a tip: why don't you try persuading us instead of insulting us?
-
That's nothing,
Compared to the tears I'll be weeping if I have to cast a vote for Her Imperial Majesty should she prove able to fool the gullible, the misguided or the uninformed and become my party's nominee.

tears of NH
if her crying hadn't rallied women to her side in NH, this would indeed be a non-story. but you cannot ignore the face that her crying affected women voters like nothing else. i am not saying she faked it then or now, but it worked, and there's no denying that. see rebecca "i am voting for clinton because i am a woman" traister's article for your proof.

Hillary W. Clinton
There is someone prominent besides Bill Clinton's wife who can produce tears when it is politically expedient. Who might that be?
In SO many ways, Hillary Clinton is SO much like King George that it is scary. How is this woman still in the race? Have Democrats just given up on their values?
And, women, Hillary riding her hubby's name into the Oval Office (would she see the spectre of Lewinsky's face peering up every time she sat at that desk?) would do NOTHING to break the gender barrier. It would be an aberation attributed to her husband's popularity, not a real breakthrough. An Obama victory, however, would SHATTER the glass ceiling for all minorities and for WOMEN. Don't believe for a second that a Clinton win would be a step forward for women. It would be a step forward for her and her alone and a major step sideways for America.
