The major liberal organization is considering, once again, an endorsement of a presidential candidate -- but that candidate will have to reach a high bar first.

  • Is that a good thing?

MoveOn is like the kiss of death in national elections.

  • RE Is that a good thing?

Actually, hiring Bob Shrum is the "kiss of death" in national elections...

  • High bar first?

I'm not sure that being associated with Move On (getting their endorsement) would be a good thing for the candidate in the general election, considering the Republicans will call it a "liberal" slime machine, or whatever, and invoke Howard Dean.

  • Move on...nothing to see here except a catfight....

No matter who the "majority" of the participants in the poll picks for the endorsement, there will be a negative impact on MoveOn's dwindling membership rolls. Another catfight in the membership will ensue if MoveOn decides to endorse.

I bet Clinton and Obama have their finger's crossed that the other one will get the endorsement -- MoveOn borders on irrelevancy.

  • MoveOn Endorsement?

That must be as highly sought after on the left as getting the Westboro Baptist Church nod on the right.

Can they decline to accept it and kind of pull a Sister Souljah move on their asses?

  • Please, MoveOn, stay out of it.

After their truly idiotic "General Betray Us" ad fiasco, a MoveOn endorsement is unquestionably a liability.

Just what we'd need - for any Dem to have that bunch give the Republicans a club to use to beat on them.

And for those of you who still think "General Betray Us" was a good idea, ask yourselves this: How long did the discussion stay about what Petraeus was there to sell, and how quickly did it become (and how long did it stay) about the terminology in the ad headline?

    Such stupidity we don't need.

MoveOn, stay the hell out of this.

  • Don't do it!

I completed this poll and really wanted to tell them not to endorse anyone...how can moveon NOT get it! My suggestion was to focus their attention on getting out the vote, not telling us WHO to vote for.

I think it's pretty telling that you couldn't vote none of the above or write it...you also couldn't make a comment without voting.

  • Makes me wish

I had paid some dues, so that I could threaten to resign.

  • They have to ask??

I voted today in it today for Obama- but was surprised they even had to ask about Clinton. Since they ran that major Petraus ad and are devoutly anti-war (I'm one of those who would never think to starve our guys of their very defensive equipment as a form of protest) and Clinton is nothing but an opportunistic war monger, I was almost offended until I began to understand and appreciate their 'asking' for the views of others, instead of taking their members moods for granted.

Just a straight endorsement would not have been as credible or as major of an impact...so

    I too await the results...???

  • Move On, Move On

Move on, please, to bringing public attention to the major differences between Democrats and Republicans, to the important policy issues on which Democrats agree, to getting people to be SURE to vote.

If you endorse, nothing else you say will matter to the Dems who did not support the candidate you endorsed. If you don't, you may have a voice in Democratic politics.

  • Wow...

An avowedly liberal organization pre-emptively, and correctly, uses their First Amendment right to call a general on his politically motivated statements (read: lies), and asks their members to decide whom they should endorse...

No wonder "Democrats" hate them as much as Republicans.

  • @ Strangely Enough

You, like numerous other MoveOn defenders, have missed the point. By some significant distance, in fact.

What they did with their foolish headline-grab was to move the discussion in the public sphere away from the content of Petraeus' comments and toward their "ridicule" of him. No one talked about the lies he was sent there to tell, or who sent him, everyone just talked about MoveOn's too-clever-by-half pun.

That ad is now seen in the dictionary, illustrating the term "bad idea".

I guess, like everyone else, they have the right to be as idiotic in public as they choose. And I, and many others, are yearning for the days of the occasional unexpressed thought.

  • Most Liberal Senator

Obama's just been named as the most liberal senator.

  • An endorsement from MoveOn? I wonder who it could be.

Chairman Mao and Vladimir Lenin are dead. Castro is too old. Maybe Amy Goodman. Nah, she wears lipstick sometimes.

  • Another Great Idea

Great, whomever Move On endorses can drop out the next day.

  • Even Lefties Dislike Move-On

Righties believe all of us Lefties read Move-On propaganda when we are not perusing child porn or posting on Salon.

  • Eek

I'm fairly certain Obama will get to 66% with them... If he wins the primary season, the MoveOn endorsement would be a liability in the general election.

And yes, it's not that moderates want to censor MoveOn, it's just that the Betray Us ad was patently a BAD way of making a point. It is certainly possible to convey a strong viewpoint without making yourself the story.

  • The kiss of death

If MoveOn proposes to endorse either candidate, will that campaign have a chance to try to talk them out of it first?

  • Thought I was the only one

Wow, I didn't read the other letters before I posted that. I thought I was in the minority, being so fed up with MoveOn. Looks like that's decidedly not the case.

  • Have you all drunk the koolaid??

Excuse me, I've never posted before, but these comments made me irate!! I don't think MoveOn went far enough! And its members, unsolicited, donated $500,000 to the group by Friday of Betrayus week. After a general thank you email, another $500,000 was donated by the next week. Sound like a dead group to you now? Let's waste no time or energy with infighting like this. We need to get the repukes out of power now and get back to sanity. We should thank MoveON for not giving up the fight.
