Nice tribute.
I guess Obama is trolling for that endorsement.
But, I heartily agree with his sentiments.

And Hillary Clinton Releases Statement on Edwards' Exit
"So, now that Edwards is out, you have to vote for me, because I'm the other WHITE candidate...
P.S. Did I mention that I'm WHITE
P.S.S. Obama is BLACK!
P.S.S.S. Obama is just like Jesse Jackson
P.S.S.S.S. Oh, and just in case you didn't remember, I have 35 years of experience (hey...don't hurt my feelings...being a political wife DOES TOO count as experience...)"
-
...but he had to insert that word
CHANGE into his tribute.
Very clever politician, that Obama.
-
Beautiful statement!
Well done and classy. One more reason Obama should be the next President.
-
"I guess Obama is trolling for that endorsement."
Maybe, but it sounded more like he was trolling for votes from undecided progressives, in the absence of an endorsement. But maybe I just think he's talking to me because I happen to be an undecided progressive....

Hypocrisy
What a pack of wolves is surrounding this Obama guy. That statement is so blatantly hypocritical and vapid that its almost funny (it would be hilarious if it wasn't he future of the country what is at stake).
Anyway, like someone said before, the Obama camp is trolling for the endorsement, hopefully Edwards will see through that and remain neutral, especially since Obama's health care plan is so deficient next to what Edwards is advocating for.
It looks like Jimmy Carter is endorsing Obama, which together with Ted Kennedy's endorsement makes an unbeatable jinx.
-
Shouldn't it be "...two Americas can become one..."
...not two Americans can become one. I'm not sure I'm ready for the societal implications of what Obama is suggesting as it's written.
-
Clinton's response?
Probably something like this, just in case you were wondering...
Hillary Clinton has been ready to accept Edwards supporters from Day One. She has the leadership and experience to guide Edwards supporters to the polls in support of Hillary Rodham Clinton.
*single tear*

Classy tribute
Well done, Obama.
Queue the haters in 3...2...1....

lol@Slackie (again)
Slackie, how does Hillary do it?
*tear*
-
"That statement is so blatantly hypocritical and vapid..."
Project much?

This is not surprising, despite Edward's lack of endorsement.
Obama is a smart guy and a savvy politician. He is being a gracious winner while simultaneously courting Edwards supporters (like me). Obama is keeping it positive and sunny, which is more attractive than negative and nasty (hint, Bill).
Having lost my candidate and having mulled over this possibility, I'm going to vote for Obama despite my reservations about his conservative stances on issues like health care and Social Security.
And methinks, he should pick a woman as a running mate. Sibelius?
-
Well that's it then
Officially not a single Dem candidate gives a shit about anything domestic.

Just a Compulsive Puppet on a String...
Between my first and second readings, while I was trying to decide whether to post on this, the .html errors in the quoted part of this post were cleaned up.
However, the error that grabbed me on my first read-through is still there: "John and Elizabeth Edwards have always believed deeply that we can change this -- that two Americans can become one..."
It's just an extra "s" but I'm so paranoid about manipulative marketing these days that I can't help but wonder if it's really a mistake, or if it is meant to mean something else.
As a Californian who has to vote on a bunch of propositions soon, I suppose I'm allowed. It's gotten to the point where the "Yes on" and "No on" ads for a proposition can't even be recognized as talking about the same proposition. Plus, you'd have to be part lawyer and part soothsayer to have any real idea of the consequences of a yes or no vote on any of them. But you can't just categorically vote no on all of them (though that's what I usually recommend and do), because some of them are there to FIX things that earlier propositions we Californians have passed have broken.
Voting - it's not for sissies.
-
Sibelius
Or Janet Napolitano, Gov of Arizona, look like Obama VP picks to me -- white women, red states. I guess we're getting a little ahead of ourselves, at least before next Tuesday.
Edwards supporters, I'm trolling for your votes for Obama. Your man was right about Two Americas. Come join us and work to bring Americans together to make a better world.

Running Mate?
Forgive my ignorance, as I don't live in the States and I'm not completely familiar with all the electoral procedures, but is there any possibility of Edwards being selected as a VP running mate again? Or are party nominees barred from such positions? (Legitimate question - I'm actually quite curious about this.)
Watching as an outside observer, I found Edwards to be the most eloquent and genuine of the candidates, and I'm quite saddened to see his early exit.
-
Project much?
. . . only if I was a mirror.
But . . . but . . . Hill . . . but, but . . . John, . . .

@Elle Driver
Tarantino fan, eh?
Yes, Edwards could be Obama's running mate. No legal impediments there.
-
Is it asking too much for Obama & Clinton to wait
until Edwards actually withdraws?
Yeah, Clinton issued a statement too, although War Room being War Room, you'd never know it.
-
I am right again Obama/Edwards ticket..
Now we must have Hillary step away so we can make our country to another level..
The moment is near and it is so thrilling being in it....
-
all of you who guessed what Hillary would say are wrong
Statement from Hillary Clinton
John Edwards ended his campaign today in the same way he started it - by standing with the people who are too often left behind and nearly always left out of our national debate.
John ran with compassion and conviction and lifted this campaign with his deep concern for the daily lives of the American people. That is what this election is about - it's about our people. And John is one of the greatest champions the American people could ask for.
I wish John and Elizabeth all the best. They have my great personal respect and gratitude. And I know they will continue to fight passionately for the country and the people they love so deeply.

@Elle
Ir perfectly legal for Edwards to be Obama's running mate, but from what I've heard, he doesn't want to do it.
I believe Reuters reported last week on a rumor that a deal was struck between Obama and Edwards to make Edwards the Attorney General in an Obama administration.
As for Obama picking a woman as his running mate, anything's possible, but I don't think it would be a savvy decision because with Clinton out of the way, all those votes for her would probably go to Obama anyway. Though I don't really understand it, I've heard that Obama is not popular in the Latin community. In this case, Richardson might be a good choice. Or he could do the predictable thing and go with a white Southerner. I doubt this would do him much good as the racists out there wouldn't vote for him no matter who he has on his ticket.
All that said, I still think the most likely scenario is that Her Inevidableness will get the nomination.
