Clinton's primary night gambit

In planning to celebrate her anticipated victory in Florida Tuesday night, Hillary skirts the rules set down by the Democratic Party.

The letters thread is now closed.

If You're Gonna Be A Hillary Basher

Me and you gonna collide.

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 07:52 AM

just wondering...

Does anyone else think this makes Hillary look like a totally delusional jackass? Seriously, this whole thing feels like something straight out of a Joe Orton play.

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 07:54 AM

Was that Hillary bashing?

How?

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 07:56 AM

Cynical

I know a guy that could sell her a nice "Mission Accomplished" banner to help celebrate this double-speak occasion.

It will make her look as desperate as the Birthday Party in Streetcar Named Desire

The news won't be that she "won." The news will be that she she once again plays dodgily and dishonestly. It will be more of a joke than a win. It will be one more story about the clinton's stooping to any level for their own gain. It will be one more "fuck you" to the Democratic Party from the Clintons.

She'll be on tv accepting an empty, meaningless "victory" with that Mr. Sardonacus smile plastered on her face and her souless, grinding stump speech.

She's not doing herself any favors.

As I Have Pointed Out Before

Minus the Clintons the democratic party has resided in the Whitehouse for 4 years since 1968.

"She will visit the state after all polls are closed in the Florida primary, in accordance with her pledge not to campaign in the state before its primary."

Parse much, Ms. Clinton? Didn't we get tired of this playing with truth 8 years ago?

The Sunset State

HR Clinton's edge with the oldsters will reap rewards in Florida, I'd think. She seems to have a lock on the >65-year-olds, who don't have much stock in hope and the future of the country, and who are focused on the here and now at the expense of tomorrow -- codgers over kids, past over future, sunset over sunrise. Sounds a lot like the GOP's approach to politics, with their borrow-and-spend philosophy of fiscal insolvency, bankrupting America's future for the sake of the needs of the moment.

So as president...

...one might expect Hillary to skirt the rules of the Constitution.

Now is the time for Obama, and it is time NOW is for Obama.

Consider Obama's vision of next year's State of the Union speech: which current candidate might receive standing ovations from both sides of Congress? Hillary?

Disenfranchised

It is so in keeping with the new world we live in (since 2000, when ALL the rules changed about what was thought of as a "Democracy", and it became legal for the political parties & candidates to dictate whose votes would or wouldn't be counted), that entire states can arbitrarily be barred from the nominating process at the whim of the parties. (Groegejr & Karl Rove have had entirely too much influence on our political process.)

If I lived in any of those states, come the general election, I'd write in Christopher Dodd. (I may do that here, anyway.)

YEAH

Obama will tell us the TRUTH...........LMAO

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 08:08 AM

What will the Democratic Party tell Florida voters in November?

Sorry, but sod off. You can take your status as potentially the biggest swing state and go screw yourselves?

Because that's what the Democratic party is saying if it keeps this up through Denver.

HILLARY has the political savvy to realize....

that if Floridians make the effort to vote for her, they deserve to be thanked for their support. It ain't beanbag, folks!

The citizens of Florida didn't make the decision to piss off the party by scheduling the state primary earlier than "allowed" -- so why should the citizens be marginalized and ignored when they use their franchise as they see fit?

Next we'll hear that Hillary showed up in the Sunshine State wearing sandals and her toenails were painted!

precedent

this just shows once again that HRC is willing to do whatever it takes to get the nomination, including twisting and bending the rules to her advantage. And also she didn't express such interest in Florida voting rights when the DNC initially penalized the state, why now? why only when it is convenient to her? All these is too fishy and dishonest.

McCain

Considers himself Mister truth. If it's him versus Obama they will be saying opposite things, both claiming truth.

Typical, two-faced Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton's entire campaign, at least since Obama emerged as a viable candidate, has been an embarassment.

Lies.

Racism.

Schizophrenic Sexism (I am the most experienced because my husband was President/I am a strong independent woman).

She reminds me more of George W than of William J. The way she has used Bill's standing in the black community to get away with racist tactics that any other candidate would be run out of the Democratic party for is nothing short of an outrage.

If her sleaze manages to get her the nomination, it will be bad news for America and bad news for Democrats. I can't picture myself (an ardent Bill Clinton supporter and Bush-despiser) going out to vote if Hillary is the nominee. I can picture my insanely anti-Clinton neighbors being energized to vote against her.

The Hillary campaign is running in full-blown Atwater-Rove mode against another Democrat. Anyone would be a step up from bush, but, outside of Huckabee and Rudy, Hillary is the smallest step up still in the race.

Thanking the voters of Florida...

@MICKI

Do you think if it looked as if Hillary was going to lose Florida, she would still be planning to show up and "thank the voters"?

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 08:13 AM

It's Like Mencken Said

The "truth" can only be handed out in very small doses. And in many cases there is no truth. Anyone claiming to be dishing out truth every day, is simply a person with no respect for the truth.

Mrs. Clinton can do what she wants, at her own peril in this case, but why the DnC has not shut this down, in no uncertain terms, alarms me somewhat

The Democratic party, imho, is a pretty hollow vessel at this point. I have doubts that either Clinton or Obama can win in November against the noise machine, but regardless, the last thing we want is for the LEGITIMACY OF THE NOMINATION to be questioned or for the party to endure further turmoil regarding what appears to have been a badly planned "line in the sand" regarding the early primaries.

For the last few days, I have wondered about the future of the Democratic party in the event of another loss in November, particularly a Clinton loss.

The Obama supporters believe they are the future ... heaven, help us if they are, but my own feelings aside, the lack of leaderhip being shown wrt Clinton's behavior wrt Florida is very troubling to me.

If there exists an equitable solution that would enable the disenfranchised delegations to be seated, I want to see it. It needs to be discussed in the sunlight. I do not see how it's possible for those to be seated in a way that is equitable and "legitimate" even as I realize the DNC is a closed club and can make up whatever rules it wants, pretty much; however, permitting Clinton's "pandering" to the Florida delegation seems self-defeating to me (both to Clinton and to the party).
