Obama refuses to be trapped in the past by invoking such modern concepts as the appeal of Reaganism, the deft use of Martin Luther King marches as campaign events, and the anointment of His Majesty, the Heir to the Throne of Camelot Ted Kennedy.
How forward-thinking of him.
Ted Kennedy and Caroline Kennedy were related to JFK. They knew JFK. And they have attested that [unlike former GOP pretty boy Dan Quayle] Obaama *is* a JFK. Hopefully, these well-deserved Kennedy endorsements will help silence those who are trying to characterize Obama as a mere pretty boy whose only talent is making good speeches.
Oh goodie. Maybe he will try to bomb Pakistan right away in honor of JFK's apt handling of the Bay of Pigs.
Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Bobby Kennedy's daughter has a different view than Uncle Ted, see her comments about her father in her announcement.
" While I admire Senator Obama greatly, I have known Hillary Clinton for over 25 years and have seen first hand how she gets results. As a woman, leader, and person of deep convictions, I believe Hillary Clinton would make the best possible choice for president. She shares so many of the concerns of my father. Hillary has spent a lifetime speaking out on behalf of the powerless and working to alleviate poverty, in our country and around the world. I have seen her work up close and know she will be a great President. At this moment when so much is at stake at home and overseas, I urge our fellow Americans to support Hillary Clinton. That is why my brother Bobby, my sister Kerry, and I are supporting Hillary Clinton.
See Bill Kristol's and Bob Novak's columns today in the New York Times and Washington Post. The Republicans are afraid to run against Hillary Clinton.
He has legions of supporters to gleefully and condescendingly do that for him. I keep waiting to see their better natures, but maybe they're too busy hoping.
Ironically I just was reading in Newsweek this morning about how JFK was misled into the Bay of Pigs disaster because he was a rookie. Instead of listening to the existing national security structure, he was taken in by the "freebooting swells at the CIA - who promptly led him into the Bay of Pigs". (Evan Thomas,"In the Shadow of Bush", Jan.28, 2008) Thomas' point was that, unlike Bush, JFK was able to learn from his mistake, but this incident is a glaring example of the kind of terrible mistake that inexperienced presidents are prone to make.
When attacked, the Clinton 'MO' is to muddy the water; deny, deny, deny; attack the messengers and discredit them at all costs. Let's just see them do this to Ted Kennedy.
What goes around comes around. The Clintons are finally getting the payback they so richly deserve after all of the scandals, the double crosses, the abuse of colleagues, the lying, the cheating, the corruption.
No conscience, no character, no credibility, no class. NO MORE CLINTONS. Their political capital has been spent and they should exit stage left of the national and international stages. It is time to permanently evict the Clintons from the government housing they've occupied for thirty five long, exhausting and very costly years.
Their fifteen minutes of fame are up. They can only bite the hands that feed them for so long and now the tables are turned. Their game is up and kudoes to the democrats who are finally speaking up against the Clintons.
Chelsea would do well to go back into hiding and stay out of the crossfire. Association with her parents in the political arena will not serve her well.
Was set up by Eisenhower, an experienced 2 term president, and passed it on to Kennedy who didn't know a turd when he was handed one. As for "experience", I do believe Clinton (the first one I mean) was younger than Obama when he took office and, for all I know, may not have ever set foot in the Capitol except as a tourist. Rookies make rookie mistakes. Pros make pro mistakes. All politicians make political mistakes.
That is my sentiment exactly. Though Hillary is my candidate, I don't have any huge qualms with Obama, per se. My annoyance with him stems largely from his campaign and the people who support him, and the disingenuous behavior they engage in. Maybe Obama really is as much of a standup guy as they want us to believe, but their shrill unwillingness to acknowledge that anyone who doesn't think Obama is the Messiah might also be a reasonable, liberal, non-racist Democrat is really alarming, and as far as I'm concerned, the fact that Obama hasn't cracked down on such attitudes within his own followers completely invalidates his "unity" and "change" spiel.
Maybe Obama really is a great guy, though I haven't seen any evidence that he is significantly different from the other candidates. But his supporters are mean, divisive, and willing to find "racism" and "Rovian tactics" in every reasonable criticism of their candidate. Obama supporters here should take note that they are doing more to hurt their candidate's reputation than to help him when they scream at those of us who have chosen Hillary or Edwards instead.
I've already posted on Elizabeth Anderson's column today so I'll keep this brief. The name, Teddy, invokes the name of Mary-Jo Kopechne who was drowned at Chappaquidick. I also saw darlin' Teddy on some cable news channel about l5 years ago providing overt support for his nephew, William Smith. Wasn't the expression "American royalty" coined for them? In Ireland we have an expression "Put a begger on horseback and he'll ride to hell". Teddy has been riding on his older brothers' fame for a long time now, although "Profiles in Courage" is not the book which comes to mind in considering the superannuated Senator from Massachusetts.
I won't vote for Obama because he's unqualified. Standing next to Teddy, somebody with 40 years of experience, trying to channel the spirit of JFK will not change that. Obama needs to earn it on his own and he hasn't.
We Democrats had such a promising furure just a few weeks ago! A vibrant contest with lots of great, experienced candidates. Now look! The old boys club has turned on Hillary and we are left with a rookie who has missed most of his votes in the Senate. But he can deliver a speech.
Teddy ran for President twice and lost. Kerry lost because he wouldn't fight back. Yeah, these millionaires don't have to worry if we have a GOP President. They don't have to worry about the economy, or the assault on civil liberties. How did Joe Kennedy Sr. make his money? And they have the nerve to look down on Clinton? Bill didn't leave a girl in a car to drown!
I'm so tired of limousine liberals and their holier than thou attitude! They don't understand regular people!!
