Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Tony Rezko

A "gotcha" that wasn't for one candidate, a need to "come clean" for another.

The letters thread is now closed.

Rezko et al

The fact is that many Deomocrats feel deeply disconnected to the party and the Clintons are a significant factor in our disillusion.

I am surprised that so many people are surprised by that fact.

Many of us have never been supporters of Hillary, even before Barack threw his hat into the ring.

We were the ones who said we'd hold our noses and cast the vote, if necessary. However, let me assure you that many of us will either stay away or vote for someone else, via the write-in process.

We do not like Hillary. She uses a two -by- four when a fly swatter would do.On everything. Yuck.

Neither the new nor the old Hilary will do. It is visceral. It is real.

Sorry?

thank you

This is an even-handed and accurate overview of the two candidates and Rezko. You are to be applauded. Not too much even handed reporting going on these days. Please keep it up as we go forweard and the campaign gets even hotter.

Obama Did NOT Represent Rezko! Clinton Lying

FactCheck.org On Clinton's Claim Obama Represented Rezko: "That's Untrue." Factcheck.org reported, "Obama was associated with a law firm that represented the community groups working with Rezko on several deals. There's no evidence that Obama spent much time on them, and he never represented Rezko directly. So it was wrong for Clinton to say he was 'representing ... Rezko.' That's untrue." [FactCheck.org, 1/21/08]

Chicago Tribune Review Of "Land And Court Document And Law Firm Files As Well As Correspondence And Other Records...Supports [Obama's] Contention That He Did Not Directly Represent Rezko's Development Firm." The Chicago Tribune reported, "Obama angrily rejected Clinton's accusation at Monday's Democratic debate. And a Tribune review of land and court documents and law firm files as well as correspondence and other records related to Obama's eight years as an Illinois state lawmaker supports his contention that he did not directly represent Rezko's development firm. Instead, the records show, he represented non-profit community groups that partnered with Rezko's firm." [Chicago Tribune, 1/23/08]

Is Salon officially part of Hillary Clinton's campaign?

Certainly seems that way. I feel I'm contributing to the Clinton campaign when I pay for my Salon subscription.

This piece is not reporting, it's political spin.

Deceit thy name is Clinton.

Reviewing Hillary's methodical playing of the "Race card", and "The Perpetual Victim" against Obama; and, her recent commentary on Iraq; Pakistan; Energy Policy; the need to control the American Economy from the White House (this from a woman who hasn't managed so much as a corner vegetable stand, or for that matter her own marriage; but, of course you could count Whitewater); Illegal Immigration; Taxes; Infanticide; Massive new Government spending; Socialized medicine; and, the Clinton's history of emasculating the military, verifies that this grievously flawed woman would be the female version of the Jimmy Carter debacle that gave us the Ayatollah Khomeini who ushered in rampant Islamic radicalism; block-long lines at our gasoline stations; a severely hollow military; and, a record Misery Index. Only much worse. Considering all of her recent gaffes, e.g. "I voted FOR IT (referring to the Bankruptcy Bill); but, I was glad to see that it didn't pass.", one has to wonder if excessive use of Botox has affected her mental stability. It's no wonder that her campaign staff is shielding her from reporter and audience unscripted questions. Greg Neubeck

I'm no journalist, but...

Tim,

Wouldn't it be more fair "journalistically" to make the correction in the body of the blog entry and state the error in the correction? Just asking.

"Unless there's other evidence of a relationship -- as there was, say, when Time obtained a photograph of Jack Abramoff with George W. Bush"

Puh-lease! Hillary took cash from Abramoff too! (http://www.townhall.com/MyBlog/CreatePost.aspx?ContentGuid=df06197a-05d5-4bde-99c7-cec3e4ebb51b)

Don't tar Bush with that brush if Hillary is just as guilty. How convenient to leave her connection to Abramoff off of that smear.

Not to agree with shooter, but...

Clinton should not be throwing stones when she lives in a house that would make glass look solid in comparison. Rezko? That's one weak lapse of a democratic community organizer in Chicago getting too chummy with a major democratic party contributor in Chicago who works in urban development projects. BFD, really. The Clinton's comparable 'weak lapses' start with Whitewater and end about a dozen lapses later. All minor, in my mind, but easily blown out of proportion, just like the Rezko story.

Obama and lies

Why do Hillary’s numbers remain strong across the country despite the accusations that the Clintons are liars? Democrats are bloodhounds for the truth and hate propaganda, that’s why. The biggest propaganda campaign this year is the Obama campaign. The press is complicit in this propaganda and America knows it. For example, during the last debate, Obama said: “I spent a total of five hours representing Rezco, that was the extent of it.” The truth is Obama got his house deal brokered by Rezco and paid about 300 thousand dollars below market value for it. Funny thing is, on the Today show later that week, the big story was a picture of Hillary and Bill with Rezco back in the early 1990’s. No discussion at all about Obama’s partial truth. Another example, Obama explained his COO comments (“I need someone to organize my papers. I am not a COO”) from the last debate by explaining “I’m just a regular guy and gave a real answer.” Bullshit. Any high school graduate knows to prepare the “what are your three weaknesses and three strengths” question before an interview. The real reason for his comments? I think he was trying to say that Hillary is a bureaucrat and he is a visionary by making this comment. When he realized he made himself look like an incompetent, he tried to fix it later that week in an interview with the Reno Gazette. He compared himself to Reagan who many believe was more of a visionary than a manager. When the Clintons called him to task on the comments he made to the Reno Gazette, Obama and his surrogates retorted that the Clintons are liars about his comments about Reagan. I listened to the clip, the Clintons told the truth. The press is in a frenzy about Bill Clinton’s participation in the campaign because Bill is calling Obama on Obama’s propaganda. For example, last night, I watched The MacNeil Lehrerer New Hour with David Brooks and the other guy. Their propaganda spew was unbelievable. The old guy even accused the Clintons of injecting the race question into the campaign. What I remember about the race card was that every single pundit decried Clinton for questioning Obama’s stated ideas about Iraq and then uttering the horrible racially charged invective “fairytale” about how Obama had mischaracterized his position over the years. I also remember a clip of Michelle Obama telling a black audience that calling the Obama campaign (not his past behavior as a politician) a fairytale was to crush the aspirations of African Americans. Who was mischaracterizing what, Michelle? I for one am glad that Hillary and Bill are making the country take a good hard look at Obama. Obama, quit lying!
