Letters to the Editor

He's dropping out...
...to spend more time with Jeri's implants.
-
Good riddance
I know it's not nice to pile on, but I always thought this guy was an empty shirt. Turns out he was more like an empty bag of air.
-
Glad I was dead wrong...
I thought Fred would be a real threat with his dadgum likeability and all. Hooray for me being wrong again!
-
We'll always have
the re-runs.

Sally Quinn
is dumb as a post. She got where she is by taking up with her married boss. The woman has stink written all over her, she was a lazy reporter back in the day when she still pretended to be a reporter, and she's a poor writer to boot.
-
like I said...
they're looking for a guy in a Reagan mask...

Step away from the crack pipe, Sally...
Thompson is "moderate" on social issues? Which one, exactly? Here's his record:
http://www.ontheissues.org/senate/Fred_Thompson.htm
Thompson stayed in it long enough to split the evangelicals and throw South Carolina to McCain, who's no "moderate" either, despite the way Quinn & Co. fawn over him.
-
To which she could append...
..."and the popularity of Dan Quayle."
Does Sally Quinn still have a job? On TV? That's even more embarrassing than Fred's campaign.
-
He always seemed to act
like he was in it for the free hors d'oeuvres and champagne.
-
Point being?
You know, there *was* a time when Thompson was polling fairly well. We all know how it turned out--as evidenced by today's announcement. So what's the point of this little coup de grace, Mr. Grieve?
-
When you're a pundit, every day is opposites day.
As a Simpson's fan, I'm just wondering if she added "Oh, and his personal hygiene is beyond reproach."
-
Gonna miss him
Guess GWB (orat least, Will Ferrell as GWB) was right: "Presidenting is hard work!"
-
Moderate?
I thought the whole justification for Grampa Fred's candidacy was because the other GOP candidates weren't "conservative enough," and that only Fred was a true "consistent conservative" who could appeal to the entire Gooper coalition without making the Beltway guys' heads explode (unlike Huckabee).
-
Proving once and for all
that Jack McCoy did the heavy lifting.
-
Sigh
What will Chrissy Hardballs Matthews do without Thompson's deep voice and manly smell? I feel a case of the vapours coming on...
-
Dead Fred.
I wonder who offered to go wake him up to hand him his "bye-bye" speech. My guess is that someone had to brief him to tell him where he was, why he had to make the speech, and the probable outcome. Apparently, just turning up for a casting call for GOP Presidential Candidate called for a bit more physical movement than 'ol Fred had in him. Now, if we can just get the same speech into giuliani's hands...
-
The best thing about FT's candidacy
was that he left Law & Order, ending the idiotic premise of a folksy southerner (never mind Republican) as the Manhattan D.A.
I hear Waterston is a big "Unity 08" guy and so I guess he was all for it, but Thompson's character always seemed like a Republican fantasy more than anything else.
-
Keep in mind Fred got 13%
That 13% could have washed the SC Primary in either direction. Fred deserves more credit than we are giving him.
AND: Do you not think that Fred was supposed to quit at the end of that speeche he gave the other night, but right then and there, he decided not to say the quitting conclusion?
-
Flasback
"A Fred Thompson flasback"
Quick, somebody call a proofreader.
-
I've got a better flashback.
Berkley Breathed predicted the whole thing in a wonderful Opus cartoon. A very grumpy Fred Thompson stumbles out of the closet of anxieties. The campaign and the nation's reaction to it were brilliantly predicted. Poor Opus was certainly disappointed. Such foresight should be recognized, especially when the cartoonists are more accurate than the pundits. Reprint that baby!
-
Deluded villagers
Quinn thinks of Thompson- anti-choice, anti-stem-cell, anti everything since the 16th century except for trophy wives--as moderate? Has she stolen some of Broder's drugs?
-
Quinn is a first-degree snob...
...who's got major "Big Daddy" problems like far too many Beltway pundits. Years of calling the DC society shots and playing Mean Girl to those presidents who weren't sufficiently "elite" for her has made her even more useless.
-
And as far as Thompson goes...
...the last LAW AND ORDER ep. had an amusing moment when the new assistant DA entered the office McCoy inherited from Branch and noted that the place looked different without all the former DA's knicknacks around. McCoy acerbically replied, "That's because it's a working office again." Sounds like someone at L&O wasn't unhappy to see Fred go...:).
-
Say what you will about Nixon
but I think his assessment of Thompson Oh sh--, he's dumb as hell. Fred Thompson was a lot better than Sally Quinn's.
-
Long Live the Mediocracy
It turns out the mediocracy is less well-loved than I, too, would have supposed. You can express your support for it in its exile at the web site below.
-
EVERYBODY LOVES FRED..
He has the healing qualities of a Gerald Ford?
...well, I hope someone heals me because these pundits are making me sick.
-
silly sally quinn
who cares what that pompous idiot Quinn thinks!
thompson is moderate? hey sally, check his anti-abortion stance.
