Romney wins Nevada caucuses

He can claim a hat trick now, but Ron Paul was the only other GOP candidate to make a serious effort in the Silver State.

The letters thread is now closed.

and OBAMA LOST

go figure. How will Mr. Grieve spin this one? Our boy lost two in a row... lets hope he can make a big win in South Carolina.

BIG _UCKING DEAL!

BIG _UCKING DEAL, Romney, so you won Michigan and Nevada thanks to riding on your dead father's coat-tails and your Mormon cricketeers, that's nothing to crow about! I wish I were that reporter you were so rude to, I would have PUNCHED your plastic face in and stomped on you like the Mormon cricket PEST that you are! Let's see what the other states' results are, if you even PLACE in them! What a REPULSIVE hollow man you are, no soul or brains to be faithful or think with, a department store mannequin escapee from THE TWILIGHT ZONE!

And weird Dem results in Nevada..

83% of the Dem results were in within an hour and a half of the polls closing, but only 38% of the GOP vote ...despite Dems having a much larger turnout??

This is a really screwy process that should be stopped.

What Tim? No announcement of Hillary's win? Only Romney !?!

I know it pains you Tim, but she won. She won.

Saturday, January 19, 2008 02:06 PM

Only half the story yet

Of course Romney won. Mormons are not only a sizable minority in Nevada, but they own a lot of property there.

The more interesting story is where is McCain sitting? As I see it, he is battling out with Ron Paul, of all people, for second place.

Rudy? Rudy who?

I love that Ron Paul picked up delegates

That is sooo cool...He got 2x as many as Huck and Droopy.

Things We Might Not Need to Worry About

If Mitt wins the nomination, does that mean we won't have to worry about hearing "flip-flopper" from the Republicans for this cycle? Somehow, I think that they'll still manage to squeeze it in.

But - it's a long way from over.

Looking Far Ahead - Iran Invasion Prospects

If Huckabee or Romney wins the nomination, and then (God forbid!) the election, either of them will rely on their (probably kooky, possibly Neocon or Armageddonist) Republican advisors and cabinet members on military matters. And, we have a good chance either Huckabee or Romney would invade Iran.

But, if McCain becomes our next president, he has some military experience. Even though he intends to stay in Iraq, he MIGHT have the sense not to invade Iran.

Orf! Vote for a Democrat, please!

Saturday, January 19, 2008 06:16 PM

Won what?

Given that Huckabee, McCain (and Giuliani) weren't even ON THE BALLOT in Wyoming I don't know how Romney can count that as a win. He's won in MI on his father's coat tails and NV on his church's.

McCain Wins SC!

So.... Many fundamentalist Christians voted for Thompson, because they believe Huckabee is a taxer who might actually tolerate gays, But, if Thompsom pulls out, they will go for Huckabee, if the do not stay home.

So, thake Thimpson 16%, and split it between Huckabee and McCain. Depending on that split, Huckabee might have won. How about when Thompson reall pulls out? Let's see. Huckabee still is in this race.

this makes me wonder

I hope Ron Paul runs as an independent. I mean, really, a lot. He could totally be the new Ralph Nader. Split the Republican vote and hand the presidency to the Dems on a silver platter. I can see it now....

Alternative Solution...

What if Mitt Romney not only wins the nomination, but also the election? Will Americans opt to move to Canada? I heard Canada was ramping up its immigration centers in expectation of another wave of "Blue Staters" in the event of a republican victory: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp

In the independent film "Blue State," the protagonist does exactly that. He decides to flee the United States and marry a Canadian after another Republican victory in 2004, due to strong liberal ideals. www.bluestate.com

The Catholic Response?

Greetings

Last two general elections that Catholic Church played a major role supporting George Bush with the "Communion Controvery" and big Pro-Life voter push the Sundays before the general election

If 'Mitt the Mormon' is the Republican nominee will the Catholic Bishops overcome their distaste of Mormon apostasy to rally the faithful to the Republican Pro-life cause or do they sit it out...

Even if the bishops press will the 'pew dwellers' vote for a Mormon cultist?

How does the cult of Joseph Smith play outside the 'Mormon West' of Utah, Idaho, and Nevada?

Enjoy the journey

Repulsive

Bleh, is there always this much anti-Mormon sentiment in the comments when War Room mentions Mitt? Isn't it the other side that is supposed to be filled with ignorant bigots?

@ Anonymous 12:20 AM

Yeah. Pretty much. On the other hand, lots of us don't like Christians either. You should have seen the Since You Asked column where this Dad who was an atheist didn't want to take his daughter to a fundamentalist Christian church. In that one, even the agnostics and atheists squared off.

Then there was the debate in Broadsheet about the hijab and the Muslim fundamentalists. That one was fun.

I suggest to really get your engine going you pop into one of the threads where there is controversy about race.

If you are a newbie, welcome to Salon. :D

I don't get it....

Everyone's discussion of the issues of both parties show a great desire to get out of the war business. People feel the pain of the devaluing of the dollar, the crashing of our economy.

The front runners of both parties are only promising bread and circuses. The only candidates who have clear stands on both the economy and the war are Ron Paul and Kucinich; both tightly focused on ending the hemorrhaging of our budget and protecting our civil rights. But the media has declared them as "nut cases" and only mention their names in passing...if at all.

Paul/Nader? Now THERE is an independent ticket for you!

Rosenkavalier says:

"I hope Ron Paul runs as an independent. I mean, really, a lot. He could totally be the new Ralph Nader. Split the Republican vote and hand the presidency to the Dems on a silver platter. I can see it now...."

Here's what Ralph Nader has to say about Ron Paul:

http://www.newsgroper.com/ralph-nader/2007/11/13/ron-paul-enima-america/

I hope if Ron Paul runs as an independent he will do what the wrestler did in Minnesota when he split the Repugs and Dems right down the middle and sqeaked by to win...what was his name? Ventura!! Jesse Ventura!!

Right now Ron Paul has a MAJOR grass roots movement of Republicans, Democrats and Independents brewing IN SPITE OF THE MSM'S BLOCKING AND/OR SMEARING HIM.

Check out these links:

The Democrats, along with the MSM, have managed to marginalize Dennis Kucinich, and the Republicans and the MSM are doing their best to do the same to Ron Paul. But so far, they are failing and I hope and pray they will continue to fail.

How does this sound? Paul/Nader 2008. With Dennis Kucinich as Secretary of State! That is a sure ticket for putting the brakes on WW III.
