If Hillary Clinton takes Bob Johnson at his word, how can she also believe that his comments were "out of bounds"?

  • Honestly?

First of all, saying Barack did drugs is not racist. He admitted it in the first place. Those of you calling Bob Johnson a racist for making a reference to his youthful drug use need to examine your own thoughts about race and think about why you think drugs and race are related.

Sure, Johnson is being disingenuous, but racist? Think about that for a second.

And, isn't Hillary between a rock and a hard place? What is she supposed to do, call one of her biggest supporters a liar? Would that make sense? Probably not. Also, we shouldn't expect her to speak for him. He spoke for himself; she should leave it at that.

And WE SHOULD leave it at that. I think maybe the democrats realize that this line of discussion is not good for the party. If Barack is the candidate, we don't need to hand Republicans ammo. You think they are going to put this off limits? Uh, no. You can argue with some of conservative Christian voters until you are blue in the face about why Barack's drug use should not be an issue, but it won't work. We've seen the power of that demographic before. I think dropping this now helps Barack most out of anyone. Let's get back to the issues. Please. And KEEP OUR EYES on the prize. General elections, people, general elections.

  • Trasher, go get yourself some dessert and stop objectifying my beauty....

Trasher, I never said Johnson was MLK. Don't spin like a Republican now!

I said that MLK spearheaded a movement, but he and any grassroots organizer needs a politician of some sort to navigate that strong sentiment into becoming a law. It's always been a two-fold (at least!) process. The government responds to social issues by recognizing the movements that are lead by Americans. I mean, lobbyists get much $$$$ to alternately pimp social change in D.C. or do whatever they can to keep social movements from getting legislative support!

America's governmental reaction to AIDS is a perfect example. The AIDS epidemic was largely ignored by Regan until 1. social groups brought increased awareness about the issue, and 2. Rock Hudson, a good friend of Regan's, admitted that he had AIDS.

A cause without a law to back it up turns into some environmental cult in a small town in California that supports saving the pink beaked, spotted duck!

Trash, there's a reason that Mr. Smith goes to Washington! LOL To suggest that laws and the governmental support of social movements aren't important is in fact a disrespect to all the legislative work that Martin Luther King and all our social leaders worked so hard to achieve.

They weren't marching just to give you something to read about in your grade school history classes. They affected social change through 1. awareness, and 2. their political bids to form laws to insure the longevity of social change. Laws hold when leaders are assinated and attitudes change. It wasn't just a person or sentiment that placed black and white children in school together. IT WAS A LAW!

And Trasher, frankly I'm surprised that you aren't looking at the bigger picture. This isn't a MLK verses LBJ discussion. This isn't about white people supporting civil rights without black leaders (and how you came up with that crazy logic I'll never know!).

This is about Obama acting like he's spearheading a movement, when in actuality he's campaigning for a political office that is supposed to support movements. Frankly, he can't be the rockstar AND the manager. Being president isn't really about starting a movement. It's about recognizing when there is one and having the ability to effectively offer legislative support and government muscle to social change.

I believe in his message of change and unity, but Obama sounds like he's trying to becoming the leader of SNCC, not to fill the administrator role that is being president of the United States of America.

  • Please don't do this anymore.

    Tim,

I've lived off of "War Room" since it first appeared and I admire your work. You have got to give this Hillary bashing a rest. Seriously. Enough. All three of our 'major' candidates were there trying to take the high road, trying to stop this implosion along racial lines that has Fox Noise and Co. DROOLING, and Tim Russert and now YOU just won't let it go and move on.

As my Italian grandmother would have said: "BASTA!"

  • NICE STORY!!!

All this talk regarding Mr. Obama’s drug use and abilities are hilarious. Most of you are writting as if, he is some dude, standing on a corner, selling drugs. Obama never hid the fact that he used drugs, it was published in his book and was known before he became a Senator. It is just that he has taken this country by storm and just now being noticed. Image this, a kid who used drugs, graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, taught law, a civil rights attorney, Senator of Illinois and a US Senator. Take away the color; he would be a great next President!!! Nice Story

  • Good grief, everyone!

He may be on the tail end of that generation, but 'Bama is still a baby boomer. I'd be a helluva lot more concerned if he HADN'T tried drugs in his youth.

  • afro goddes: Your pic is to deep into your head your logic is full of bed lent coodies.

common sense is not as fatting as a happy meal use it now and then. Clearly Hillary tried to spin MLK to prove to white voters that Obama is all talk like MLK of course since her and Bill are one drop coloreds she thought that spin would fly but it didn't to cause to many nappy headed hoes and negroes like me around nowdays to set the record straight..

Thre are milions of laws none of them mean shit unless people act on them.

MLK knew empty laws without enforcement were the legacy of our country's civil rights era before he emerged. White folks like LBG, JFK and others did nothing, they did not adventure outside of thier comfort zones to help coloreds and negroes. MLK made them do that..

Hillary like her Husband are civil rights frauds they will toss Rosa Parks, MLK, Mandela, Jesus(a black man) all under the bus it it fits thier hunger for power..They think they are privledge aristocrats..
