Edwards gives a completely classy response to being backhanded by Kerry, and you still find a way to twist his words and try to make him look like the bad guy. Salon is developing a revolting pattern where their coverage of Edwards is concerned, and it's beyond tiresome.
If I remember correctly, Kerry had criticized Edwards in 2004 saying that Edwards has no foreign policy experience because of limited time in Senate. I wonder what does he have to say about Obama now.
Edwards is either ignored or chastised by the media (including Salon, unfortunately). There is zero objective coverage of the guy.
I'de love to see how the media would react to a successful showing by Edwards in SC. Probably would pretend it didn't happen.
Man oh man. I wonder if Obama is going to get a free pass -- as Mr. Clean -- on his involvement with Antoin "Tony" Rezko?
Obama has admitted to a "bone-headed mistake." Give me a fuckin' break.
If Hillary Clinton or John Edwards said something similar, the maniacs in the media would be all over them like flies on shit.
Go to ABC -- Brian Ross for details on this story.
The Hillbots resemble Bush's 20% in that they will blindly follow her off a cliff and rabidly defend her from all attacks, both real or imagined.
She's a woman after all. And a Clinton. These are the only reasons Hillary has any support to begin with. Just like Bush's core support comes from his last name, so does Hillary's.
Picking the lightweight Edwards as his running-mate was the biggest mistake of Kerry's politcal career! Edwards delivered not a single Southern state, and the VP candidate was absolutely feckless in defending Kerry against attacks from the Right wing (Playing the role of 'pit bull' on the campaign trail is one of the jobs of the person in the 2nd slot. Kerry AND Edwards staffers from the '04 campaign have reported that Edwards refused to take on this role)
Edwards is a viable candidate right now solely because Kerry chose him as his running mate. What more is he owed?
That was a classy response by Edwards to what will ultimately be a meaningless endorsement. Nobody cares about Kerry in SC. If he wanted to have an impact, he should have endorsed Obama before New Hampshire.
For a guy who said he will not vote for war funding before voting for it.
As someone who contributed money, more than once, to John Kerry's grotesquely mishandled presidential campaign, I want him to send my unused percentage to JOHN EDWARDS. What a spiteful move! It was Kerry who lost by not responding to the swiftboaters, not Edwards. It was Edwards who wanted to contest the stolen election. It's so sad to see John Kerry sink this low. Edwards is much closer to Kerry's professed positions than Obama. If Obama (or Hillaryy) is nominated, I will support the Democratic candidate - but hopefully, his endorsement will just backfire to the benefit of John Edwards. Yes I'm a supporter!
Why would Kerry endorse Edwards? The Edwards campaingn is all but dead. He shold drop out. Edwards negativity killed him.
Teh reason Kerry gave are exactly why I m voitng for Obama. He is brining in a lot of new voters, We need fresh blood, and he has he expereince to be president.
However the best endorsement Obama could get is Gore.
It was a very nice endorsement from Kerry and a classy response from Edwards. That's it.
and didn't even when they were running mates.
But Edwards' response with mild and respectful. Why try to turn it into something it's not? Why assume Kerry's hitting Edwards on this? Isn't it also possible that he's backhanding Clinton as well?
Or maybe he thinks Obama is the best candidate.
Since I can't read his mind, I don't know, but as an Edwards supporter, Kerry's endorsement doesn't move my vote at all. I'll continue to support and speak up for the candidate who best expresses my issues. I love having a candidate I can be FOR instead of selecting the lesser of evils.
Democrats have a great field of candidates to choose from this year. We're lucky and it would be great if Salon would cover the issues instead of the personalities. This isn't "People Magazine for Political Junkies" I hope.
While we're at it, how about some substantive coverage of Edwards? A sizable percentage of Democrats support him in spite of the media blackout. Everyone benefits when all voices are heard.
Please, cut the snark and stick to issues!
How would the M (as opposed to the MSM) report an Edwards victory in SC?
"Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton staged a tight battle for second place in yesterday's South Carolina primary for the Democrats. Experts weren't sure how the results would affect either candidate as their hotly contested battle for the nomination now focuses on Super Tuesday.
And on the Republican side ..."
Sometimes Kerry leaves us wondering if he can read his own mind.
And articles like this one show how Edwards is the best choice for the office.
The media has actively sought to malign or ignore or belittle the best choice since at least Al Gore. Even Kerry was the best choice on Election Day, but we got stuck with him on Election Day because the candidates who were better than him were disqualified by the media.
And Edwards is the best choice in part because of his across-the-board appeal. Kucinich has always been right about everything and Dodd actively fights to defend the Constitution. But neither of them ever had a chance, of course. And neither, so we are told, does Edwards.
Thanks for nothing.
"Wow, I and the Salon staff did not see that coming. We never expected Clinton to beat Obama in South Carolina of all places!"
Can we have a photo op of Kerry, Dukakis, and Mondale endorsing Obama as the candidate of the elite educated moneyed folk who call themselves "progressives"? Can't wait to see that picture. I simply deleted the Kerry email without reading it, but think it said something like "I endorsed Obama after I didn't."
