Edwards has gotten a free ride only in that he has been completely ignored by the press
And Grieve and Koppelman did a fine job of exposing Hillary's BS complaint about Obama.

Newsflash: After Obama wins I am retiring from being a Black activist!!!!!
No need for my services anymore given his vision and platform for the country!!
VIVA OBAMA...UNITED WE STAND....VIVA OBAMA...UNITED WE STAND...

is that all?
That's about what Chris Matthews alone generates on Hillary in one week.
Remember, being a Hillary supporter means you are a castrati in CM's world.
nice try, Obama shill.

""That's fine," she said. "I don't mind having to get up there and take all the scrutiny. "
Wow, talk about passive aggressive.
She's starting to sound like my mother.

double standard, even in criticism
Tim and Alex,
I respectfully disagree. While Obama and Edwards may take criticism, the incidents that you cite are infrequent and happening over a one year period. I can name at least 100 slams on Clinton in the press in the past month. Furthermore, Bill Clinton is right about Obama's voting record and it doesn't matter what kind of spin he throws after it on Tim Russert's show (one of the most sexist journalists in recent memory---remember his intervew with Nancy Pelosi two years ago in the run up to the last congressional election?) And, to top it all off, Obama has not been voting much at all and that's the real scandal here. Clinton is flying back to make every important vote, has her name in every race, and do you know why? Because every time a woman tries to do anything she is slammed for her attendance record, whereas men routinely get off easy as the public assumes "they have better things to do."

question
What's wrong with being "third world in presentation?" Or is it just that CM said it?
-
Good job, Tim.
Now list all the stories in that period that have made negative characterizations of Clinton. Oh, sorry, Salon doesn't have that much bandwidth. Nevermind! ;-)
Seriously, if you'll step back and look at the forest rather than the trees, you'll see that the MSM has not been at all tough on Obama, and that they are fawning all over him like a schoolgirl crush. Look, I'll probably vote for the guy, but he's not without flaws. If you listed just the policies of Clinton and Obama, you'd be hard pressed to assign them to the correct candidate. Yet, the subtext of the MSM coverage would have you believe that one is Satan incarnate and the other is the second coming of Christ.
Yes, Obama has gotten a free ride, and that ride will eventually end. Hillary is just hoping it will end while she still has a chance.
Edwards, on the other hand, has been all but ignored, which is a free ride only to the political grave.

Not all bias is created equal
Hillary Clinton has made plenty of mistakes, but her weakened position can be dated precisely to the MSNBC "debate". The network promoted it as a takedown of the front runner, and Tim Russert delivered. It was the most shameless and effective example of media bias I have seen in forty years of watching politics.

Gimme a Break
Obama got parking tickets at Harvard? Those are the hard questions he gets asked. No sane and reasonably unbiased person can say that Obama hasn't had it easy in the press. I'm a news junkie and it is nauseating to watch Chris Matthews, the Mclaughlin Group folks and every journalist on CNN and the networks practically wet their pants in excitement over Obama. Likewise anything Hillary says or does is scrutinized and criticized -- one day she's too tough and the next she's too soft. I like both Hillary and Edwards and think either would make a great prez and Richardson would make a good VP. As for Obama, I think he's very inspiring, and will likely help get a lot of young people to the polls (like Bill Clinton), but I see zero substance behind the inspiration. This election is too important to simply vote on passion and fulfill Obama's professional goals. We have huge issues we are dealing with from the economy to Iraq to the erosion of our personal freedoms and the high-jacking of the Supreme Court. We can't afford to put this country in the hands of someone who needs on-the-job training. But he sure is pretty! He could possibly make a good VP, but he needs to hone his skills in the Senate more. New Yorkers across the idealogical spectrum prais Hillary as a Senator, while no one in Illinois points to anything significant Obama has done. He has been totally political and middle of the road in order to prepare himself for this opportunity. Talk about a true political machine!

Logic problem
I know there's a tautological problem in here somewhere, but it's been an awfully long time for me since that 8:00 a.m. freshman class...
OK, so the two of you were able to do some research and find a dozen or so examples of where Obama and Edwards were given a hard time/closer look over the last year by pretty much every media outlet (except Salon, of course). Now, go back and look for all of the Hillary-nitpicking stories from those same outlets over the same time period. We'll wait. It's probably going to take you more than a couple of hours and a lot more space to document.
I think the writers protest too much. As do Edwards and both Clintons, for that matter. The candidates need to quit whining and campaign. And the political correspondents need to get their indignation in check and stop trying to game the primaries.

Clinton supporters, come on...
What Tim and Alex didn't mention is all the "inevitable" press Clinton got. Clinton was written about daily, while Edwards didn't get stories even when he led Iowa. Newspapers and TV were already talking about Clinton's "general election" strategy as it became "clear" that she had it locked up. You realize how hard it is to raise money and excitement when the media says the race is already over? Clinton got a lot of help and still couldn't close the deal. Of course, now that she's fallen, everyone will pile on, but it was hers to lose and she lost it.
