Matthews: Obama is a "third world" candidate

Yes, but is he a Muslim plant?

The letters thread is now closed.

Clearly a typo.

I'm sure Matthews meant to say "Spear heard 'round the world."

Thursday, January 3, 2008 06:27 PM

Why doesn't he just say what he means?

He means to say, "Barack Obama is a nigger."

Really -- why do they allow such people to continue as "reporters"? I'm hardly someone to pull the racism card but this is so damned blatant.

(Boy, am I excited about these results! I just wish Hillary weren't doing so well...)

Macaca! Macaca! Macaca!

So, Matthews is a bigot, so is Don Imus, what else is new? It's only a matter before one of these yahoos calls him a nigger, or his wife a nappy headed ho. Matthews will probably get a promotion and a raise.

Matthews continues to show bias in large and small ways

I thought these election night and political "anchors" were supposed to at least appear to be neutral as to the candidates. I don't have as much of an issue with them being on the right or left of the issues as when they show clear bias to individual candidates. I used to enjoy Chris Matthews, although I frequently did not agree with his point of view. As of late, he just has to add snarky little comments about both Obama and Clinton, while maintaining an air of perceived (his)superiority. I hate to see MSNBC headed down this road.

Shallow prat

Why is MSNBC so hot on Chris Matthews? When they pair him with Keith Olbermann, isn't the difference as clear to them as it is to viewers? I tuned in a few times tonight hoping for Olbermann, but pretty much all the air time went to the usual useless prats like Matthews, Mitchell, and Russert.

Matthews & Olberman

I think MSNBC pairs Matthews with Olberman ostensibly to boost Olberman’s credibility as a political reporter. Problem with this strategy is that Olberman is so head & shoulders above Matthews in this role that Matthews’ bias becomes even more apparent. Like or hate Olberman he doesn't cloak his opinions in doublespeak.

Don't forget

Don't forget the part where he said "He's a third world candidate, I mean, coming up through Indonesia, his father is from Kenya..."

Matthews said this "third world candidate" comment at least twice throughout the night, bringing it up all by himself, like he really wanted to make this the new catchphrase. In that context the "Indonesia" thing is clearly another veiled attempt at turning him into an Al Qaeda sympathizer or other such nonsense.

More Accurately a World Candidate

Barack Obama has a unique perspective due to his diverse background and culture, which means he inately has the ability to understand different cultural perspectives, something needed to be a leader of the United States, a country in which the whole world thinks of us as a leader and super power. He can better swing the tide of energy toward peace and not war. Something beneficial because of nuclear weapons which if one goes to war has the capacity to destroy the world. So what better component than to have a man of the world who being for the world can institute peace, concilliation and diaglogue. For in reality, we are one people and one world.

3rd World View

Chris Matthews just probably doesn't secretly want to date Barack Obama, who is a little thinner and younger than the guys Matthews usually swoons over.

Gee, I bet he can jump higher, too!

"a unique perspective due to his diverse background and culture, which means he inately has the ability to understand different cultural perspectives, something needed to be a leader of the United States"

Oh, please! Senator Obama is an impressive American politician who speaks grandly of "our time for change", but to claim an "innate ability" to understand different cultures based on a few years of boyhood in a foreign country and a father of a different continent, is just silly. How sociologically grandiose can one be? This claim borders on a strange kind of reverse racism, as it's currently phrased, reminding me of those "compliments" about African-American athletes having genetically superior thighs. And this is precisely what Matthews was trying to say; he's a fervent Obama supporter, not a detractor, and his despising of Mrs. Clinton is well documented at Media Matters and elsewhere. No, Matthews and this poster mean to say that Obama has some special genetic makeup and cultural inateness which will make the world say, "Oh, gosh, the American president is one of US." what nonsense.

Barack Hussein Obama

...and then there was the announcement by Matthews that Barack HUSSEIN Obama was the winner....with the emphasis on the HUSSEIN!

Let's face it...the only reason he even backed Obama against Clinton (besides his hatred for the Clintons), is that he, like much of the press want Obama to win the Democratic nomination so that McCain will win the presidency. McCain is their darling and has been, since he courted them in 2000!
