Lieberman endorses McCain's wobbly straight talk

He says McCain had the courage to speak out on Iraq when others were "silent."

and he can't spell, either

"waivered"? Sigh. (I'm assuming you pasted from the press release.)

Where's the Ron Paul article?

Geeesh, Tim, the embodiment of the potential of the netroots raises somewhere between $6-7 million in one day and it gets nothing? No notice? No mention? Nothin'? Remarkable? If Obama or Clinton raised half that much you'd be falling over yourself to discuss it.

Don't be afraid Ron Paul. He's not a monster. He's just read the actual Constitution.

Quick! Get me rewrite!

"You may not agree with Joe Lieberman on every issue, but you can always count on him to be dishonest with you about where he stands."

John McLame and Joe Schmo

These guys deserve each other, and do not deserve this much attention or anyone's vote. How out-of-touch do they have to be before they hear the sound of laughter over the sound of one hand clapping?

Joe Lieberman: the curse that keeps on giving....

Yes, everyone, people in CT have a lot to answer for with the re-election of Joe Lieberman. Just keep in mind, however, that was Republican voters and "Independent" voters who carried the day...

I'm sure the mainstream press will cover Joe's endorsement uncritically, and the "Straight Talk Express" will gain.....wait...what's the word? I know:

JOEMEMTUM!

as a result.

Situational Deafness

"When others were silent ..."

I hate to break it to you Joe, other's weren't silent, you just didn't want to hear.

Obviously

Lieberman is speaking of the "silence" within the Republican Party in the 2 years after the invasion. McCain was the only republican I heard in the press that didn't seem to take "victory" for granted. Quoting Kerry and Biden is therefore irrelevant. Sure, McCain wasn't as anti-war and gloom and doom as he could have been, but in late '03 and early '04 nobody thought that we would still be discussing cutting and running as the last/best option available in Iraq in '08. Whether you like McCain's policies or not, the guy is a pretty straight shooter, and should be respected for it. I, for one, am extremely glad that he exists within the Republican party to reduce some of the obsession with moral issues and immigrant-hate. I think the fact that he's not the frontrunner within that bunch just shows how out of wack the right is in America.

CT voter

yeah Republicans and independents voted for Lieberman but so did CT Democrats who were for the Iraq war as well as Democrat supporters of Israel who didnt wanna see a hawk on Middle Eastern affairs go down. Remember, Michael Bloomberg send his political aides and election team to help Lieberman with the elections

And the real difference between HRC and McCain is.........

Ah, the question no Clinton supporter will touch with a ten-foot poll.

Look at their voting records during this last administration and please tell me what the real difference is between these two.

Bonus question: While you're at it, please tell me the difference between HRC and Rudy.

*crickets chirp*

The Odd Couple

Really, Lieberman's endorsement of McCain is entirely in (lack of) character for Shoeless Joe -- a Democrat-in-name-only (and, alas, an independent-in-name-only) endorsing a maverick-in-name-only. Two people who've built careers coasting on undeserved reputations -- why shouldn't they share this last dance together. The GOP's scandalous behavior from 2000 onward has made pretenders like Lieberman and McCain stand out all the more as relics from a time when pretenders could actually blend into the political environment. But Lieberman's bogus independence and McCain's nonexistent maverick status are threadbare, if only the media would deign to call them on it.

Allow me to answer my own question

McCain has the nuts to publically make an unpopular stand on something, and go on the stump to defend his position for better or for worse. He has even gone on liberal shows (like the Daily Show) to make his case. I strongly disagree with McCain on the issue of the Iraq War, but I respect him for stating his position on issues like this.

Hillary will not make a public stand on anything, particularly an unpopular one. She will not allow herself (or her husband) to be interviewed by someone who will be critical with them.

OK, so that's one. Anyone have others?

Does the endorsment from a Democrat really help in the Republican primary?

I know Lieberman straddles the line, but he's still the person Bush is talking about when he says he's working with the "Democrat" congress.

I guess it could help in New Hampshire, but I don't know about anywhere else.

The Israel Lobby is interested in one thing: War in the Middle East

Lieberman and his fellow neocons/ Israel Lobby members view the NIE on Iran as a temporary setback. With Giuliani continuing to fall in the polls, they view McCain as the most likely republican candidate to win and get the US into the next war for Israel.

yep bomb Iran! bomb Iran!...nice enough rendition by McCain to get some money from the pro-Israel community and some endorsements
