Al Gore in 2012?

If he ever got back into politics, he says it would have to be for the presidency itself.

The letters thread is now closed.

Wish Gore Was Running in 2008

Gore in 2012 the only other news that would be better is if Gore would run NOW in 2008. He would win by another landslide.

Gore in 2016

Let's be optimistic here and assume the Dems win the White House in '08, and that whoever is elected doesn't do such a piss poort job that Al Gore would have any reason to run against them in 2012.

OK then.

If a democrat wins

Their vice president should resign, let Gore replace them, and then the president should resign and let Gore assume the presidency. Since he's already won once, he shouldn't have to go through the indignity of another campaign.

$$$$$$$$$$$$

Al Gore would be a FOOL to run for President. He's making way too much money selling global warming hysteria!

Monday, December 10, 2007 01:26 PM

I wish...

I wish that there was a way to draft him.

I think he should apologize to the Institute of Medicine first

When he lied about the IOM report during the 2000 campaign, he treated the scientists who put together that report like a pack of fools.

Those were some of the top addiction and medical scientists in the country and they were not and are not a pack of fools.

Justice Al Gore

Has Al been asked whether he'd be game to serve on the Supreme Court, when a Democrat has a chance to fill the next opening? Talk about poetic justice!

Monday, December 10, 2007 02:30 PM

I don't know...

I tend to agree at times with him (and I don't like anyone - I just dislike him less than most), but...

I think he & we are best off with him not descending into the mire of presidential politics. Don't get me wrong, I think he'd be better than most. I just think the role has devolved into who can make people think they are getting away with the most and getting the best-est toys. Any kind of "we need to make some sacrifices and do what's best" rhetoric was last played out at that level by Carter. Although hardly the only nail in the coffin of that political career, it was a big one.

He's not the only one who's been forced to play the game by consultants & looked half PO'ed, half bored by it. If anything, maybe he'd be best as the power behind the throne.

@ kufir77

Hasn't prevented Cheney from making a boatload of money by selling hysteria

Monday, December 10, 2007 02:46 PM

@Strangely Enough

Yeah, but Cheney doesn't have the same "manish scent" as Al.

Yeah, but Cheney doesn't have the same "manish scent" as Al.

You're right. The smell emanating from Cheney would be either the drying blood of his victims, or more likely, the stench of decaying flesh common to the undead.

A shame, really

It's a shame Al feels this way. If the Dems win in 08, I was hoping we'd see him as something like ambassador to the UN, or as a special envoy to the UN on climate change, or head of the EPA, or Sec. Interior, or something where he has actual power and budget to effect the changes he advocates.

Now That Would Be Just His Luck

Al Gore wins the election in 2012 so convincingly that not even the Supreme Court can deny him the presidency. Then, a couple of weeks later, the Mayan calendar is proven to be accurate when the world comes to an abrupt end. Once again, a victorious Al Gore is not sworn into office.

For this reason alone, he should run this year.

re: I wish...

Adar,

"I wish that there was a way to draft him."

FYI, he WAS drafted during Viet Nam and ran to Canada until his father Gore Sr made him come back.

BTW, no WAY he'll ever win in his home state for President.

BrianNelson,

"Has Al been asked whether he'd be game to serve on the Supreme Court, when a Democrat has a chance to fill the next opening? Talk about poetic justice!"

I must admit that would be ironic. But then, when was the last time ANYONE who was put on the US Supreme Court NOT a lawyer or judge? Al's NOT either.

Adar,

"FYI, he WAS drafted during Viet Nam and ran to Canada until his father Gore Sr made him come back."

Sorry my error...he was ALMOST drafted before his father made him come back and he enlisted to avoid being drafted.

Re: Re: Re: to all the Trolls

Puhleese,

Gore enlisted and served in VietNam, Bush used his Daddy's influence to join the national guard and stay stateside and he even went AWOL from that. As for greed, Cheney's ties to Halliburton and Blackwater, and those companies' recent impact on the human race should send them all to the deepest circle of Hell. Where is Dante when you need him?

And Al Gore is making some money by spreading the word about global warming? So what? At least he is earning it honestly and through his own ablities, unlike Cheney and his puppet Bush.

Looks like a lot of former swift-boaters are doing anonymous posts these days.

Answer to Trolls

barbed,

"Gore enlisted and served in VietNam, Bush used his Daddy's influence to join the national guard and stay stateside and he even went AWOL from that. As for greed, Cheney's ties to Halliburton and Blackwater, and those companies' recent impact on the human race should send them all to the deepest circle of Hell. Where is Dante when you need him?"

Al DID enlist AFTER Al Gore Sr brought him back from his 6 month hiatus in Canada. Al served as a reporter for Stars and Stripes. George Bush served in the Air National Guard as a pilot...he did not have to go to Viet Nam (as many didn't who were in the Air Guard) and the so-called AWOL has yet to be proven to my satisfaction (no DA Form 1379 showing him as coded as AWOL). If the code isn't there, the term AWOL does not apply.

"And Al Gore is making some money by spreading the word about global warming? So what? At least he is earning it honestly and through his own ablities, unlike Cheney and his puppet Bush."

Indeed...Al Gore is earning it honestly by scaring people into following lockstep behind him...fortunately there are scientists who are fighting back.
